Default Hello -

I'm jmgpcent.
I'm and Android newb. I've got lots of experience breaking (jail, that is !) iphones but I've gone over to a Samsung S3 because of the childish limitations that apple puts on its devices through software. I loved the hardware, hated the software. So this brings me to why I'm here....

I rooted my S3 the second day I had it, and had no real issues, but I've got some questions about the gigantically vast array of methods and softwares used to root these Samsungs. (I've since unrooted it just to make sure I could, but have since gotten an OTA update which really ticks me off - this remote diagnostics bull to me is code for SPYING!")

I'm getting to the point right now - is there a primer for newbs like me (but not wholly incompetent) that guides a person on what can be done safely, how to change basebands (and whether this is safely possible without bricking), ROMS and such? I've watched many youtube videos, and googled till I'm all googled out, but these are usually done from 2 points of view - from someone who is DOING it on the video - and they don't usually explain why they're using what they're using, or worse yet - from someone whose tried to root their device and bricked it!

Thanks, and have a great day!
