Default Which root method is best? KF1

I'm trying to root my new (to me) kf but after trying the kindle fire utility I keep getting driver errors. Ive reinstalled them a couple times now with no success and now my kindle isn't making a proper adb connection to my windows 7 Pc. ive successfully rooted at least 7 android devices with my current setup. So I dont know what the hell is going on
