The Curtis Klu LT7033 is really a nice piece of hardware. The main problem with it is that it ships with two preloaded market apps that aren't very good. The first one, Getjar doesn't work at all. The second one SlideME is nice, but has a very limited selection of apps available, and it requires you to establish an account with them before you can use it. So, what this tablet really needs is to have the two major app markets, Amazon Appstore, and Google Play available. This brings us to the second major limitation of this device. The device originally shipped without root access. This limitation prevents the easy addition of the Google Play market. Curtis quickly realized their error in doing this and began shipping the device with root access starting with the LT7033D model number & later.
(note: To find out which model you have, read it from the box it shipped in.)
I know the length of this guide makes it seem like a daunting task, but trust me, its not. The guide is set up like a flow chart so the majority of you won't even have to go half way through before finishing, and even those who have to work all the way through will find skip forward points.
After getting Amazon Appstore and Google Play I've been able to get Netflix, Dish remote access, the Overdrive media console, and of course Angry Birds. This is a great little toy once its set up, and trust me, all the hard work is done. This is easy.
This guide represents the culmination of a great deal of work by well over a dozen people. Please take a moment or two to give us some feedback. Was there something you found confusing, say so. Was there something omitted, say so, and if you find it helpful, your welcome, but say so. Not only will you be helping us to understand how to make the guide better, you will be helping others overcome the fear to try. From all of us who have worked so hard I want to thank you in advance for helping us make this guide better by posting your replies.
Getting, and Keeping the Amazon Appstore App Up and Working
Note:
There are some glitches about the way Amazon Appstore operates that this post will demonstrate how to work around, so if you do download Amazon appstore be sure to work all the way through this post. If you are not interested in loading Amazon appstore and only want to load Google Play skip the rest of this post and begin with post 3.
On your Tablet select...
settings > security > check Unknown sources
use the back button (lower left corner) to exit settings and then,
download the appstore app to your tablet from... Install AmazonŽ Appstore
Install and open the app.
You will see the white & amber appstore “smile” in the upper left corner, and a create account button in the lower right. Don't press the button! You already have an account. Press the back button to exit appstore, and then press the appstore button again. This time you will get the welcome screen.
Log into your account.
Download whatever your interested in having.
Use the back button to exit appstore.
Press the button to open appstore again. (humor me)
Now what you will get is a completely useless black screen that may or may not have a search bar at the top. Go ahead, try to use the search bar and you'll see what I mean about useless. This will happen each time you leave appstore & then try to return so...
Here is what you do to get back in.
Use the back button to exit appstore & then go to Settings > Apps > Appstore > Clear Data > OK
Use the back button to get back out of settings & then press the appstore button.
This time you will get the familiar white & amber appstore “smile” / create account screen,
hit the back button to exit appstore.
Press the appstore button again and your back to the welcome screen where you can log into your account and download whatever apps you like.
If your happy enough to just have Amazon Appstore and you don't want to install the Google Play store then your almost done, but before you decide to call it quits let me mention that one of the apps that I really wanted, Dish remote access was only available at Google Play, and its free.
Should you decide to stop now just remember that if you change your mind later just pick up beginning with post 3. If you are going to stop here please skip down to post 5 and then take a moment to provide us with some feedback.
On the tablet...
Download, but DO NOT INSTALL, the Google Play apk (ver. 3.10.10) (Thanks casperischinky) com.android.vending-3.10.10.apk (Please report broken links)
Open ES File Explorer.
At the bottom left of the screen there are 3 vertical dots. Press this button.
A menu pops up, press settings.
Scroll down to Root settings and check Root Explorer.
A warning will pop up, select yes.
Another pop up, select Allow
If your tablet is rooted, the root explorer box will remain checked and you should continue with the remaining instructions in this post. (If you can not get root explorer to remain checked it means that the tablet is not rooted. Ignore the remaining instructions in this post, & skip down to post 4)
Starting with mount file system check the 3 remaining boxes. If the program asks any more questions just answer yes or allow. When all 5 boxes are checked...
Use the back button to get back to the main ES File Explorer screen (you should be at.. /sdcard/ )
press the Download ((folder icon.) You should now be at... /sdcard/Download/ )
press the (multi) Select button, select the Google Play apk you downloaded earlier, & press copy
use the up button to get to the root directory. (On this device it looks like a phone with a / )
press the system (folder icon), then press the app (folder icon). (you should be at /system/app/ )
Press the (multi) Select button, select the Google Play apk & press the paste button.
(Don't be surprised that Google Play apk seems to disappear, its made up of many smaller files)
click...
(3 vertical dots) > Settings > Root settings
Starting at the bottom uncheck the bottom 3 boxes,
Leave the next box, Up to Root, checked.
and then uncheck the top box.
Back out of ES File Explorer.
Shut down the tablet.
The next time you boot up you should have Google Play in your list of apps.
Leave Feedback! Please, when nobody does it feels like playing to an empty auditorium. Skip post 4, your done!

If you have another computer with a different operating system try that one instead.
Once the drivers are installed the driver tab should say the device is working properly. You will also notice that the update driver option has grayed out. You may also find that the name on the icon for the tablet has become more specific.

(2) Power on your tablet (3) Turn off mass storage. (the only way to connect mass storage on this tablet is through the USB cable and that is connected to the computer. (4) Enable USB debugging (5) Enable unknown sources & (6) connect a USB cable.
(If you have been following these instructions you already have all this done, otherwise go ahead and do whatever you still need to do.)
Hit enter and then wait patiently. The whole process takes less than 5 min. but your tablet will reboot several times in the process. When its done your tablet should be rooted, and the program will ask you to...

Wait a few moments. If the tablet is rooted, the Root Explorer check box will remain checked. If so continue with the remaining instructions in this post. (If not, then you are not yet rooted. Perfect, SuperNoober! Followed the instructions step by step and we're good to go!! The LT7033D is, in fact, already rooted. Watch out, don't assume ES File Explorer is already installed, though. It's a task manager that comes stock. Follow these instructions to THE LETTER and the Klu indeed becomes a treasure.

I apologize for the hijacking of this thread but i could not find the information i was looking for and this was the closest i could find. i tried to follow the instructions laid out to root a curtis klu tablet model LT7052 as i am aware that the 7033 is NOT the 7052 i was hoping that the root procedure would be similar. to no avail the tablet would not root. my question is what would be different in the procedure that would allow me to root the 7052 tablet and install both the google play store and the amazon app store. i was thinking that it might be a different set of drivers but as i am new to this arena i have not been able to find the right drivers. please oh masters of the android forums PLEASE HELP!!
much appreciation in advance,

I thank you very kindly for your reply because it makes it possible for me to warn you, and everyone else, not to throw caution to the wind. According to the Curtis International web site...
The Curtis Klu LT7052 uses an A8 3core processor.
The Curtis Klu LT7033 uses an RK2906 or equivalent.
I apologize for any for any errors that may have been apparent over the last 24 hours or so. About the same time I thought I was done I received requests concerning the 7052 and including the drivers from Curtis. I thought that would be no problem, but I underestimated my ability to screw up when I get this tired.
And now I'm going to go catch up on about a weeks worth of sleep.
I would really appreciate it if one of you guys who understands the process would give the whole guide a good top to bottom QC inspection.

Warning to anyone who has used the Guide before the time of this post.
I have just finished editing the guide to include a step that was a monumental oversight. If you used this guide before the time of this post please follow the following instructions immediately.
Open ES File Explorer and click...
(3 vertical dots) > Settings > Root settings
Staring at the bottom uncheck the bottom 3 boxes,
Leave the next box, Up to Root, checked.
and then uncheck the top box.
Back out of ES File Explorer
While you were doing that you may have had the program asking for super user access. If so, you may also have noticed that even if you picked deny access the program was granted super user privileges anyway. Even the most careless of system administrators only grant themselves super user access long enough to accomplish the task at hand, and then they turn super user access back off. Unchecking all but Up to Root will allow you to see your entire file structure without the risk of accidentally erasing something vital, and turning your tablet into a paper weight.
Alright I, after trying to update drivers repeatedly using the drivers mavrikmeercat got from curtisint and failing miserably, went and used the 2nd second set of drivers provided by SferaDev. I finally got my PC to recognize LT7033 as an ADB winusb device. I have root and google play store! I sincerely appreciate everyone's hard work on this and supernoober's redirection. Thanks!
On my PC, it just saw my 7033D as an Android device. This happened after I found some ADB drivers from the net somewhere. The original drivers for this device didn't seem to work. When I went to root the device, the runme.bat file returned a lot of device not found errors when I ran it from Windows. I then opened a CMD prompt as administrator and ran the runme.bat file from there and it worked. Thank you.
Idk what i am doing wrong???? This is only my second device that i have tried rooting... this is my first tablet. None of the drivers want to work with my computer im running a release build of windows 8 with a vision amd processor. Idk if what im saying makes any sense but hopefully yall can help me out cause im dying without google play hahah. thankyou!!!
Curtis International or Proactive Supply Chain Solutions, you decide.
ilovebatz:
The LT7033D shipped already rooted. If you had followed the step by step guide step, by step, you would have had Amazon Appstore & Google play on your tablet without any need to load the ADB drivers and you would not have run the root toolkit runme batch file at all.
cabiggs152:
Read the response to ilovebatz. I need to know what model you are dealing with to know what might be wrong. The model number should be printed on the box.
I will attempt to get a good set of drivers from Curtis, but with that said, I want you to notice the address listed at Curtis International's web sitehttp://www.curtisint.com/about/contact-Us.asp
It is:
315 Attwell drive, Etobicoke, Ontario, M9W 5C1
Load their address into Google maps & go to street level
Take a drive around the block.
I don't see a sign that says Curtis International, all I see is a warehouse with a sign that says Proactive Supply Chain Solutions
The LT7033 is a nice device, but I somehow just don't think we are going to get very good customer support from Proactive Supply Chain Solutions, do you?
I just thought about that right before I read your reply supernoober, but thank your for replying so quickly. My model number is lt7033 I'm not rooted...I hope that will give you enough info to help me cause I'm in desperate need!!! :-)
This might sound weird.. but when I was loading the drivers.. I didn't go into the i386 or the amd64 folders.. there was a file I was able to select in the folder both of these folders were in that I had selected to make it work.. Also I was not able to update drivers through devices & printers.. I had to right click on my computer > click on manage > click on device manager> find device>right click> and then manually select them from the folder this way.. It was a little different than what I was reading on here, but it worked! I forgot to mention this last night

Followed instructions listed and worked great on two Curtis Klu LT7033 tablets. I used a Windows XP SP3 laptop for connection with an Intel i5 CPU and the drivers listed worked. There are several ways to get to the device to change the drivers the only thing I see was different I think it listed to select the AMD or the i386 folder depending on your processor. It would not let me select the specific folder I had to select the root folder that was created when it unzipped, that folder name was "ADB Driver RK29". From there it found the driver and installed without a problem.
Very clear instructions and much appreciated, THANKS.
Man... just like that bro? I dont think anyone here is ungreatfull and if someone has been rude then blow it off cuz that is not what this community is about at all.
Don't let some troll hinder your desire to help others and dont let your mistakes hinder that either. Thats how we learn unfortunately..
okay im still having problems im rooted with su on the tablet but now google play store fc's everytime i open it idk what im doing wrong... if anybody knows what the problem could be plz let me know!!!!!!!!!!!

Reason: im an idiot
Thanks for all the help. Google Store and Amazon Market easily insalled on my LT7033E (also comes rooted). One tip - in ES File Explorer, to select and copy the Google Play apk, click and hold. Otherwise if you just short click you will install it.
Another way to avoid pasting files to the wrong place is...
You can also use the (multi) select button with just one file. This is what I originally meant, but it was not clear enough the way I wrote it the first time. I've made a number of edits based on the replies everyone's made and I feel the guide is getting to the point of being really good, perhaps even to the point of good enough as is. (I hope so because I'd like to start playing with the tablet more than writing about it.)
The ADB drivers have been proven on XP, Win 7, and even Win 8, that means they are the most up to date currently available, and should be inclusive from win 2000 to win 8. The RK29 root toolkit has proven effective for both the LT7033, and the LT7052. Both of these files are ready to populate the All Things Root Sticky.
To all of you guys who did the original work in making this guide happen, and to all of you who helped refine this guide by providing your comments I say...
We are Curtis

We sell you tablet
Already broke!
This thread has been, and still is, dedicated to helping everyone who purchased a Curtis International Klu LT7033 get Amazon Appstore, and Google Play up and running on their device. For a discussion concerning why I no longer consider Curtis International to be a legitimate enterprise see the new thread...
I Followed this guide to a tee and successfully rooted my tablet downloaded Google play store and i haven't put it down yet!!! Thank you so much supernoober and all who helped, y'all made this tablet more than just an over sized paper weight. I cant thank you enough.

Guy's this is fantastic, noobs like myself really appreciate it.
I am now having a problem though...
I only took the steps for the Amazon Store, that was enough to get a few games on the tablet for my toddler son. For a couple days everything was working fine. I downloaded a few apps, my son was happy, life was good.
Today, when I was trying to download another game for him, the process got hung up on the download step.
It goes through the purchase step just fine, but once I click "download", the download bar will show forever with no progress. I tried everything I could think of...different apps, uninstalled and reinstalled the Amazon Store app. Still the same.

Close amazon appstore. Go to settings--> apps--> amazon appstore--> and clear cache and wipe data. Open appstore again and sign in again. (Repeat until it works) you should be able to download again. Do this anytime this happens..

Thanks Mavrik, I have tried this, many times. I've gone so far to completely uninstall and re-install the appstore. Still no luck.
You mention "repeat until it works"...between restarting the tablet and doing the clear data steps, I'm sure I've done it at least 5 times now. Are you suggesting it could take 10+ times till it works?
I should also note the only thing "new" I did with the tablet, since I last downloaded an app successfully, was to put a couple movies on an SD Card to watch on the tablet. I can't imagine how this would be related, but other than that little addition the tablets entire life was playing apps from the Amazon appstore. I did take the SD Card out of the tablet, thinking that may have had some affect on all this....but no luck.
thanks again for the help

The more specific you can be about what you are trying to do the more likely one of us will be to answer your question. For instance, what app were you trying to download? I'd like to try to download the same app to see if the same happens on my unit.
I don't have an answer for you, but things I would be curious about would be if anything actually did download to the /sdcard/ folder.
Other than that I'm glad to see Maverikmeercat is still out there, where did the rest of you guys go?

Also try clearing the dalvik cache(not the same thing as cache) which would normally be done in a recovery but we aren't there yet. So you can do it manually like so:
Open es file explorer
Go up to root ( / )
Open data
Open dalvik
select all files in dalvik folder
Select delete
Now right from there, press the power button and choose shutdown (don't back out of anything)
Now power back up. It will take a few min to boot because it will rewrite all needed files to the dalvik.
Try your app again and see if that worked
Usually the dalvik gets cluttered when you add/remove a lot of apps and is a good idea to clear it once a week on low end devices because the ram gets all cluttered with unused junk. Also apps that have been removed sometimes stay in dalvik and clearing and rebooting will rewrite only installed/relevant files during boot.

Thanks SuperNoober,
I was trying to download an app for my son called "Stack 'N Puzzles", its a pay app.
The only thing I can see on my sd card are the movies I copied over from my laptop, doesn't appear anything got downloaded to the card.

Oh hell just load up play store. It is not hard to do, just take long, slow, deep breaths, you'll be ok. I promise. If I can do it anyone can. Except the manufacturer that is.
With how screwed up Amazon appstore acts, I wouldn't doubt they did something to screw that up too.
Anyway, its past my bedtime so good luck.

Yeah honestly I stop using amazon because it is such a pain. google play is the way to go. I really don't have any need for amazon. I just put it in my ROM because so many of you were looking to use it but it has given me lots of trouble as well
Is there anywhere else I can get es file explorer, since I can't get from Amazon? Seems to be a pretty important component for the google play install.
I wouldn't assume that because Amazon froze on Stack and Puzzles that it will freeze on ES File Explorer, however if that is the case, you can use SlideME which comes preloaded on the LT7033. Slide ME has a payment option that allows you to link to your already existing Amazon account. Be sure to post your result regardless of outcome so everyone will have an idea of what works, and what doesn't.
