Cool LeOS 2.0 and Google install guide with pictures

Hi guys,

After leaching lots of information from this forum (and a few others) I decided to put together a easy to use guide of the simplest way to install the new OS and google apps along with all the links for the downloads that are needed/ used in the process, or can be useful.

kbob.dyndny.org/LePhone/

I will be adding a few troubleshooting tips, and how to delete unwanted programs that appear during the install. If anyone knows how to male the vissage app work for non unicom users, Id add that as well. and anything else that seems importaint or interesting.

King Bob, nice work!

Allow me to make some comments:

- During the leOS upgrade is a good idea to have the USB cable connect to a notebook, as a power backup.

- there is a risk in the use o power button to start the upgrade process, if the user hold the button longer than it should the phone can turn on and off, bricking the phone, the best method is described below, never touch the power button:

pull out the battery and unplug the reboot the phone while holding the right button and just wait.
release the button when you see the white caracthers on screen.

when you get the error that your talk aplication cant connect, I know of three possible solutions.

1) enable the talk application from the google website
2) use an email that is not a gmail email to connect to google (this one worked for me)
3) if you did not install the talk app with the market place, delete the cache from the google framework and the marketplace and relog in.

@Bundy for problem 1, what you need to do is go to the "settings" menu, then to "SIM card and Storage settings" and import contacts to mobile. this will copy your telephone numbers to the phone. ( I would suggest copying them back to your new SIM card with the Export option incase the phone gets damaged)

as for your second issue, did you root the phone? you have to root the phone first, and secondly are you getting the proper menu? I am refering to the "hold" menu, and not the "finger move up" menu. (select the item you want to copy and hold your finger on it for a few seconds)

@ norton
the google market is not upgradeable, and unfortunaty newer versions will not work for the lephone, as far as I know.
as for google maps in china, it should work, you need to make sure that internet is on, so It can download the maps, and gps is enabled (it should have the little satilite Icon at the top, ) it will take some time to aquire your position. and as with all gps you need direct visibility to the sats, so you may have to go outside. as soon as the icon of the satilite has stoped blinking it means you have aquired your position. in order to move the map to that location use the button on the top right that looks like a target with a circle in it. this will move your location to the center of the display.

@Javier

NetworkLocation.apk is not an application, it is a service, you wont be able to see an icon for it. all you need to do is copy in to the system folder like all the other google apps. If google maps is working, so is the networklocation.apk.
unfortunately, or fotunately, I dont use the gmail, so I cant help you there, sorry.

I need your help!

A few days ago I was going to install LeOS 2 on my LePhone, everything went fine, at boottime the lenovo logo was shown for about 10 minutes.
I took the battery out of it and back again, pressed camera and powerbutton, the text messages came again, nothing happened.
Taked out the battery again, new test, display is black, no vibrating on powerbutton, nothing.
What to do now?

Please help me I need this phone.

king bob, good job! i have been using the vanilla 2.3.2 aplha for 2 months so far. the system runs fast, no glitches etc., but there are two problems: 1) the gprs disconnects after every call and needs to be reconnected manually 2) some aplications dont work (especially games).

So now after reading your post I am thinking about trying again O2 2.0 (I have already used the beta version). But I have a question - is it possible to completely get rid of that FLOWER UI ? i remember i did it somehow with ADW launcher but I dont know if the same thing can be done in final release of OS 2.0.... thanks for info!

I found this tutorial on a Chinese forum, use a translator and see if it can help you, off course I never tested it and can't say if it works:
