I am not sure.
I have tried that custom LEOS (don't remember version) and I had the option to switch to front camera.
On custom 2.3.2 I do not have this option yet... I wait for a new better ROM

If anyone has the firmware 2.0.7 which support the front camera can upload the apk file hear? Install the RootUnistaller and choise backup.... then in the folder RootUnistaller on sdcard will be the camera.apk file....
You said you have android 2.3.2 does it worth to install? or it's better to wait for something else?

I'm ok with it. I don't really like LEOS, as the basic android can be customized with different home launcher, google apps.
I wait for improvements.
Unfortunately I don't have programming knowledge. If anyone knows a good noob tutorial for creating ROM's please share.
What I would like is to make camera button (right side) to work, front camera, wifi and GPS to better work and I think this is all I need..

it's very hard to create a new rom.... you may find the google code but you have to write the whole hardware drivers from the scrath..... with no information about your entire hardware.... If you manage to do it means that you are realy realy good..... That's the reason android will never be like linux.....

indeed.
what I would like to do is to improve one existing rom.
I hope someone will make a really good one, or Lenovo launches a better one

the camera.apk from the version 3.0.7 doesnt utilize the front camera... I havent installed that version, but I unpacked the img file and checked by overwriting the one in version 3.0.4. if anyone knows what the name of the vision APK is, I can check that as well.

after a little bit of coding yesterday, I figured out why normal applications cant utilize the front camera (like skype). this is simply because android versions 1.6 to 2.2 do not have the capability for multiple cameras.

My guess is also that the camera hardware is setup in a way that even the gingerbread native firmware (2.3.2) will not recognize multiple cameras.
(if some one could check this? also would be interested to hear if the new chita release works or not)

This is mostlikly due to the fact that lenovo has its own android api in order to select the camera to use, due to the fact that no other phone had two cameras at that time, it wasnt needed in the google android api.

I'm guessing is that unless someone rewrites the camera drivers to match those of normal google we wont be able to use the front camera on any non lenovo applications.

how are you taking pictures? with vision? if that is the case, then its doesnt make a diffrence, since that is a lenovo app... skype would be interesting though.

interesting... I just installed the chita camera... it has a function for switsching from the back camera to the front one... I will upload it to my site for anyone who wants to download it.

sill would like to know about skype

It's reasonable that Lenovo has their own camera api to access the FFC, as it's not common, being on various models since summer 2010.

That said, FFC access in Skype is simply controlled by an access array with many model phones set to 0. One enterprising dev took a version, set all values to 1, and redid the apk. Although he did it for his Samsung, it has served many well.

Rather than the Market version, try this one. It's not the latest, but I still use it (even though my phone has offial support anyway), so I thought I might mention it, maybe worth a shot.

Uninstall official Skype before trying.

No guarantees, but hope this helps.

I actually tried the exact same thing and it didnt work (though with a unique application).
Also the hacked Skype application will no install on the LeOS, (mabe it needs the lvl 9 api (since as far as i know android.hardware.camera.open(int) is only available from android version 2.3)?

unfortunately I am unsure how to enable the front cam of the lenovo. they deliver a documetation with an example of how to take a picture using the front camera, but not how to open the front camera

Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
intent.putExtra("camerasensortype", 1);
intent.putExtra("needpath", true);
intent.putExtra("needuri", true);
startActivityForResult(intent, REQUEST_CODE_TAKE_PICTURE);

the again, i also do not know which name space the constaint REQUEST_CODE_TAKE_PICTURE is in, so I havent been able to try this either

My bad, should read instructions properly when installing but when I try starting a video call it just crashes.

update: I got my application to work now if I could only get my hands on the skype code

There's an apk disassembler on xda that I don't have bookmarked here. I'll gladly share the link later today, that may help.

that would really help

I actually tried dex2jar which seemed to work. I was able to modify AXMLPrinter2 to (automaticly) decompress (all) the binary xml files on top of that. and then I was able to load it into eclipse as an android app. unfortunately it had 8683 errors and 2000 some odd warnings

Sooooo, I was going to try smali and baksmali, which wouldnt work because of links, and I had a chat with freak who said I could just change the header to get that to work (havent tried it yet)

but while waiting for an awnser I also tried dedex something or other (delivered in the android SDK) and it created a structure exactly like dex2jar, so.... im gonna have to see if I can get it to work.

and additional progs that you can suggest would be great maybe tey will work better

I would realllllly like to know where theos0s got his file since they seem to be original (looking at his modification files they have the full names, while my extracted files have class names like aa, ab, ac and so on for the most part). xda-developers - View Single Post - Skype 2.1.0.46 (v11) / fixes, extra features & more!
