What is gingerbread and why are you posting something with no further information or validation?

Gingerbread is the code name for android 3.0/2.3 which is rumored to only be coming to phones with a 1gz processor or higher. My post was just to remind everyone to not get thier hopes up because some random poster who only joined the LG forums in june is confirming 2.2.

OP posted a link from the LG forums where the MOD of the forum made the announcement

Thanks every one for your patience in waiting for LG's response on the Ally's status with the Android 2.2 upgrade. This statement is short and sweet.

That still leads me to my original issue. Since when does a forum moderator= a press release for a huge update to one of verizons best selling phones, i mean come on! The last forum moderator on LG's Forums said 80% the Ally is not getting 2.2.

but to each his own and lets get back on topic

I called LG customer service today and the lady told me that YES it will get the 2.2, she said that they were just told about it yesterday but they do not have a release date yet.

My guess is it will be in about a month, maybe 2 if there were any SERIOUS complications, its in LG's best interest to upgrade the phone as soon as possible because we all know (and they know) that the Ally is a budget Android phone, and giving it Froyo as fast as possible will give LG more $$$

The Ally maybe budget on price but I have had, the HTC Droid, HTC Inc, and the Moto Droid X, and I like the Ally the best. It does what a phone should do best, preform like a phone. It has the BEST batter life of any of the Android phones that I have had. I dont care if the other phones may or may not do some things better, if I am hooked to a charger all the time who needs it.

Verizon is getting it uploaded to their servers like exact mid-september but then the cell company has to test it after lg does a test to it, so some of us will get to test it and everybody else will get it a week or two later if it goes well

On other devices it has, so my best guess is yes. We have temporary fixes right now. I suggest the airplane trick

I have rooted 2.1 update 1 OS running. Would I have to find an original ROM for 2.2 somewhere when I can and re-root to have that? I'm pretty sure I will but I have to ask...new to Smartphones/Linux

I knew I rooted it too soon....

if you just rooted the phone and running the stock rom you should get the update no problem whenever it comes out. You will likely loose your root when you update to 2.2 whenever it comes out.

I hope we dont get the Devour treatment...

1) Yeah buy it, its getting the 2.1 upgrade.
2) It was supposed to get it, keep checking Motorola site.
3) Its now under evaluation of getting it, even though other 1.5 devices are getting it.
4) Thers not a snowballs chance in hell of getting it ... Sorry... Should have bought our Droid...

Hence the reason I will not buy another Motorola product....

After the recent update status on OS upgrades, I'm with you on that. I ranted to Motorola reps about it and so are many others, they're getting the message. Thing is the USA Motorola owners are getting the luxury while everyone else outside gets screwed.

It's already been confirmed, there's just not a release date, and if you root your phone you'll have it possibly sooner
