Ally help irc channel
****To clairfy what IRC is and the purpose. IRC is called Internet Relay Chat. Basically a chatroom. I have set this up to help people that have a problem or need help with something. We usually have more than one person try to assist so its group help. Which also means you would get answers faster. But it's more than just a support chat. It's there for fellow ally or any android based phone owner to come chat and have some fun.
Ally IRC channel is located on the Freenode network, info:
Server: irc.freenode.net (or any freenode server you wish)
Channel: #ally
Webclient: LG Ally IRC WebClient

So far the Ally IRC channel is going good. We have a few coming and going. Everyone so far agrees that its a much easier form of communication. Never know who will be in there.
For those that do not know IRC means Internet Relay Chat. There are plenty of irc networks out there. Think of it as a chat room but instead of calling it chat rooms they call it channels.
Also what's up with this 50% bug?! My battery is shot!
I'm curious about getting a new ROM for my phone since I just rooted it. Would like something that could help improve the speed of my internet. I think there is an app that has to do with over-running the CPU for that?! Not sure...

i think that means your nick contains characters that arent allowed in irc. I'm honestly not sure. Just try a differnet nick.
Okay i figured it out. It's because the nick cannot start with numbers. So just change it so the numbers aren't starting the nick and you should be good.

I recently rooted my ally and installed velocity .3 along with the ffffff theme...When I did this I was pretty new and didnt create a backup of the stock rom. I eventually want to sell the phone and might need to take the rom and themes and everything off, and go back to stock...How would I do this? Thanks

Thanks so much!!!
Dots, I want to say that I am REALLY appreciative of all the help you have provided so I could learn how to root my Ally and get A2SD up and running. I know it would have been much harder to figure out without your guidance and encouragement along the way. There is so much information about rooting out there it is monumental to sift through. And some of it is pretty much outdated now. One downside to forums I guess. All the posts tend to hang around even as their topics evolve over time.

I've already got one setup on freenode. Channel: #ally
Just change the Username to whatever you want and clock login.
Update**
For those of you who have the new Phandroid app. You can connect to the ally irc channel from it. Once your sucessfully connect to the network click menu and press "Join Channel" then add #ally. and click OK. Here's a screenshot.
Hey, Dots, did you notice the battery status icon in the image you posted? Talk about "subliminal messages".
I see the "average age" of some of the members on the chat hasn't changed much since my first encounter with IRC nearly 30 years ago, which was why I never spent much time with it. It is a shame something can't be done to boot those sophomoric punks off the chat permanently. I was really pleased to be able to get the help I did those couple days when I rooted the Ally, but from what I am seeing today I don't know how anyone could carry on an intelligent dialog with all that stuff flying.
Is there a way to block certain members from appearing on the screen?

You would have to use an actual irc client to be ableo to use /ignore Most actual clients (not the web ones) support it.

Well, if the Ally info really will apply for your phone, I would suggest you install ROM Manager from the Market, which installs ClockworkMod Recovery, then "flash alternate recovery" (at the bottom of ROM Mgr. window) to using Amon-RA Recovery. Then you can use Amon-RA to create nandroid backups. If you plan to put your apps on the SD card (using A2SD) then Amon-RA is the way to go, because it can access the EXT partition you will need on the SD card for that. ClockworkMod makes nandroids too, but it can't access the EXT partition.
However, be advised that these things discussed on this Ally forum are specifically meant for the Ally and no other phone. So they may not work correctly for you.

If the person sending the pictures, or if you, are using SMS or MMS to send/receive them, AND either of you have applied the Velocity 1.1 update without "installing from scratch" it may be the issue being reported on the Velocity 1.1 thread regarding problems with messaging and pictures. If so there are details in the thread on what to do to fix the problem (involves re-installing Velocity 1.1 rather than "upgrading" to it).

Very helpfull people on it. Only took a few moments to get someone to help me with my phone. When he had to go, very quickly found someone else to pick up where he left off.
Thank you guys so much!
Due to circumstances I am unwilling to discuss, I am taking a permanent hiatus from the room. I wish everyone good luck and I enjoyed helping people root
EDIT: After some reasonable thought, I have decided to go back to the room. I hope to see you guys there

The LG Ally was one of the first Android handsets from the Korean manufacturer to see a US release. The QWERTY slider came to Verizon in the spring of 2010 as a mid-range smartphone geared towards those looking for a solid media and messaging... Read More
