I do not know if this is relevant at all, but I just got the connect and in addition to it in my area going from 2-3 bars on 4g to in few minutes (or less) to going to 1x or no connection, today at least 3x, (once while watching a youtube, once while playing a rhapsody song, and once while downloading an app) the phone beeped and then rebooted.
How do I see what the temperature on my phone battery is ?
I took the phone to the store and she tested it and there had 4-5 bars of 4G and it stayed there without changing but I did not stay long enough to see if the phone would reboot or...
i let my phone completely discharge then i let it charge up to full. Did this about 4 or 5 times and stock battery no longer over heats, also i bought a better battery from amazon and that lasts way longer and never had overheating problem, so i'm pretty positive that the overheating problem is a battery issue and doesn't have to do with the phone itself

I've beeeeeen saying that the LG Optimus M was the best phone they have released so far. Everything after that has crashed and burned!!! The esteem was such a piece of $h!t with all the battery drain/software bugs.and now they release a phone that can potentially explode and burn your house down. I'm over at the EVO section since its my primary phone and a guy from there had a whole story about his phone actually catching fire and burning his carpet and desk in his home. This is a VERY serious risk. Imagine if you were making a phone call and the thing bursted into flames...you would look like the crypt keeper. And the stuff that's in batterys is like acid.
Wha?
Can someone translate please?
Man I must really be old...
I know what you mean, some of the grammar on here is absolutely horrendous. I just pray I'm talking to a bunch of twelve year olds or people whose second language is English because if not, well, we're screwed as a country. LOL

Just to let you all know I got the ecell high compacity 1900 and its lasting about 18 hrs with good use and does not over heat good battery for 12 bucks
Thats the one i got, it says lg optimus m but its the same battery
Cesarweezer..how would we first time cell..LG Connect users charge that battery if we were to get it? If it is charged in the phone, how many hours does it take?
On another point.. if we were to get a 3000 battery, is there a work around way of covering the back OR what would be the problem if it is left open and the phone is in a silicone case ?

4ubest it charges in the phone and i'm not sure how long it take to fully charge because i charge overnight when sleep but id say it'd probably take two and half to three hours. As far as the 3000 battery i have no clue about that, this 1900 one last me all day and thats all i really need
If it wasn't enough that we had to *fix* the lg esteem when we got it just to get it working right, now I got the connect and it overheats during normal use like playing games for 15 mins. or some people say charging. I'm not letting them screw us again, i'm about to try to negotiate with them to see what I can do to get this fixed, recalled, redesigned etc... If that breaks down I will see what other avenues I can take. I'm really tired of getting screwed out of $$$ because of their mistakes.
Please sticky this if you can so other people don't accidentally have to go through what i'm about to.
In the top left you can see the temp: 136F/57.8C, The warning pops up around 135F (It's hard to get a screenshot cause it's a popup message box). Temperature keeps rising too, but I didn't want to damage it or have a battery explode on me so I killed all the tasks and put it in front of my AC to cool off.
UPDATE: It says right on the battery not to exceed 40C/104F
Kanaida,
Although I have not figured out how to get a screen print by hitting home and power at the same time (it may be making one I just do not know where it is stored), I was playing a game one of the folk here recommended and in a rather short time it was over 45 degrees and within 40 minutes it was 51. Where does it say the battery should not be over 40 ?
I did take photos with my regular camera but do not know how to get them to you here..
maybe i need to try playing some games cuz i havent had my phone get so hot that it burned and i've had this phone since it came out. it does get warm when i have the 4g on and im streaming stuff but not so hot that i get a warning.
im rooted and i used rom toolbox to turn the max MHz down to 756 and that seemed to help it a lot. usually i'll have my phone propped up against my covers and it will get hot then(still not absurdly hot).
i still say the battery that came with the connect isnt powerful enough for this or any 4g phone and is being overworked.
My phone is not rooted and I play games on it and I never had my phone get hot either. It gets warm but never hot enough that I can't hold it in my hand.
My LG Connect gets hot aswell , I work for a Metro here in florida - LG apparently is working on a fix an claims its a software issue... an well aware of it --- from what i was told there should be a fix any day ...

Only time I will upgrade is when they come out with a phone that has the spec's of the esteem with the new dual professor and it comes out with ice cream Sandwich
Maybe it needs a REAL Ice Cream Sandwich ( 25 degrees fahrenheit ) to cool the phone.
1. Leave wrapper on Ice Cream Sandwich
2. Set Phone to Hottest setting- Sahara Desert- 137 degrees
3. Place phone battery side down on ice cream sandwich for 9 minutes or until cool to the touch.
4. Remove Wrapper and Eat Ice Cream Sandwich.
To the OP- thanks for the warning-I have not purchased a Connect yet- but my advice to you is get a warranty replacement- if they see the heat warning onscreen - they will replace.
Could be defective battery, lots of things - danger is battery could explode.
Warm is one thing but beyond rated specs HOT is another- Replace.
Thats the one i got, it says lg optimus m but its the same battery
The same battery you can get it on ebay for $6 or $7 and ship faster. I was going to order it with amazon but it would take 25-30 days so instead I ordered for $15 (2 batteries and external charger) and is going to take 15 days.
Is the same battery look the photos and the brand is feipusi.
my connect overheats up as well but only when im playing a game while its charging. does anyone have the number for LG if i want to contact them with my concerns about the phone?
HTC One V will only be 3G so it will not be the same thing as the Attain just to clear things up. This really upset me because I would definitely get this as it is an HTC device but the 3G only KILLS it.
Yeah- I'm thinking of upgrading to a Connect or some better Metro Phone and another problem is the One V supposedly has a FIXED BATTERY- meaning it's not removable (? ) (!) .
This sounds really wacky because you can't upgrade, as battery goes downhill in performance, you can't replace it, harder to reboot since you can't disconnect battery-
Just sounds wacky to have the Battery permanently attached.
-Almost as if on every Phone- they have a secret design Team that has to do a few illogical things- like design the Connect to be hot enough to Roast Marshmallows- unless you get a "Good " one or hopefully- just a better battery.
Glad I got on this Forum- so if I get a Connect -I'll just upgrade the Battery and check for problems in the beginning- like the "charging" issue etc.
Don't get a smart phone if you don't know how to use them.... you are probably dumb enough not to force stop running apps.... i mean what do you expect if you have your phone running applications you don't even use n, have the 4g simbol always connected n then they complain 'oh my battery' D: psh go get a simple phone then.... my connect "never overheats n last almost all day kus i kill apps n turn internet of when not using it.... don't expect going to sprint or att n get a galaxy cuz the same shit will happen if you don't know how to keep your phone running smoothly.. if you have a pc with like 10 ot 15 tabs open don't expect it to not lag n get hot... try doing that to a poor laptop... good luck.. n.educate your self a bit more

To funny for one you shouldn't have to force close an application it should close it self and having 4G on all the time it's suppose to be on what's the use in having an 4G phone if you turn it off......

True indeed...
That bit of info was extremely helpful... especially to those who blame their phone, when in fact, it's actually their use of said phone that is the true underlying problem.

Force closing is unnecessary but if you're on stock battery and leaving 4G on you're raping your battery.

Just read that the temp is normal as.long as it don't go over 140f or60c so all is well with connect
Really? Who can hold something that hot though? Sure, maybe it won't spontaneously combust. Even after the LG update tool, I just can't hold this thing for long at 114 degrees. Did the updater help all of you or did the new batteries? Or did ya'll get replacements?

What a bunch of bull! You don't need to force running apps to stop; they should stop on their own once you are done with them. I neither force any apps to stop nor switch off my 4G, and my phone works great.
Don't use pathetic excuses for poor design or defective units. You are the one who needs to educate himself. Also, go ahead and educate yourself on the proper use of English.

I'm @ 55°c ATM, just got a hot battery warning...
I haven't had too much overheat but it does happen.
My friend got a new connect (zva) and he hasn't registered over 45°c with normal use (short gaming periods and hour long YouTube videos)
This makes me think there was a battery and/or hardware issue with some connects.
The update to zva really did help me though. My phone powered down the first day due to heat and only overheats on broken out rom (zva) if I'm charging and tethering while surfing the forums

I guess I'll follow the link posted in this thread for a new battery. Worth a shot. I'm around.kids a lot. If one of them picked up a hot phone and I had to take him or her to the emergency room,.I'd feel terrible. LG and/or Metro PCS better believe they'd be the ones paying that ER bill!

They all seem to run warm (maybe because I'm in Miami, Idk) but not burn unit scalding.....
I have dealt with 8 connects, all sit at 40°C when idle and warm up to about 42° with basic use (calls, web browsing) however a couple have jumped to 55° in a matter of minutes when running 4g streams. My money is on defective antennas.

the fone is not a burn hazard. if the battery gets over 131f it shuts off. at that point, the outside of the fone is like 110, barely over warm. i bought mine used and i think the owner never conditioned the battery when it was new. the first day it got very hot and shut itself off 2x. it was actually draining while plugged into the charger in my work truck. i put a towel over the battery with the cover off and a ziplock bag with few ice cubes over it. the battery charged up in about 2 hours, never got hot again that day or since. i have an app called phone overheat alert and it has not gone past 104f, thats with a 2 layer case. i use "go power master" and with my setup i get 26 hours on the 1500 battery. i also rooted it and use set cpu and lowered the processors from 1188mhz to 810mhz and the fone still runs smooth as butter. these fones can do amazing things, just do a bit of research and learn a bit more before claiming faulty fones please. you can also install an widget called "2g-3g onoff", in cdma only mode it will switch to metros 3g mode. i have speed tested 1500 down and 800 up load speeds here in florida, in case that helps to keep the fone cooler while streaming radio.

Really? Claims? Hm... I didn't realize my friend Mr. Blaze had a previous relationship with my Connect. Ok if we attempt to be civil? I know what 110 degrees feels like against skin. My Cooltool app clearly displays temperatures far exceeding your stated facts. Please, no need to get snippy here. Most of us are here to help one another. This is a wonderful resource. I'm happy to hear you have such a wonderful Connect. Mine did improve after this forum told me about the update available. However, it by no means cured my phone. Yes, this phone can do a lot. I'd prefer not having to do it over a bag of ice cubes.
