Default Canadians!! LG eve on rogers!

New to the forums... hi all!

So anyone interested in the new lg eve? I've been waiting for rogers to come out with a new android phone for a while, as I'm kind of hesitant to buy an "older" android phone like the magic or dream, and I'm kind of disappointed that they've come out with this lg... While I don't know much about the hardware, I've always had nothing but problems with LG phones.

What do you guys think? Buy the eve? Buy the magic or dream? Wait for something better? I haven't heard anything about new android phones from rogers, and the hero will only be available on telus...

I have the Magic, and I love it, but I was looking at the LG Eve as a potential phone for my wife. Looking at the specs on Rogers web site, however, I notice that it says the Eve only has _150 MB_ of internal space, compared to the Magic, which has 512 MB. Why so little? Can the Even store apps on the SD card, unlike the Magic?

Edit: I just rechecked, and _my_ HTC Mgic (from Rogers) only shows a total of 295 MB of internal memory, but the Rogers site says "Up to 512 MB of intrnal memory".

Does my Magic actually have 512 MB of memory, all but 295 MB of which is used by the OS I suppose?

I'm considering getting the Eve. Only thing is it appears to be running Android 1.5, I'm not sure if rogers or LG plan on updating it to 2.0, and it appears that no one has rooted it yet. Other than that the phone has everything I want. Also it comes with 2GB of memory, more information on the phone can be found in this video, specifically at 2:04 when he starts going through the settings.
I'm hoping to be able to install cyanogenmod on this phone or some other firmware eventually, and despite running an older version of Android, LG has added some nice eye candy to the UI and some multimedia improvements that you can see here LG Eve From Rogers Wireless I have yet to see android running on other devices so correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Cool Looks like I'm the first one !

Hey there guys.
I GOT THE LG EVE !
I really, really, really love it.
I'm an X-iPhone user and I'm glad I made the change. As awesome as the OS for the iPhone is, It's WAY to sheltered and doesn't have any great apps that really grab my attention.
The Android OS on the other hand, oh boy forget about it.
If you guys have any questions give me a shout, I just picked up the phone over the weekend and I've been playing with it ever since.
And yes, the Eve comes with a 2gig stick, but it's not built in, and yes you can save apps and other things to it, I've got it full of emulators and roms

I'd like to make a comparison video with my Eve and my iPhone and toss it on YouTube, let me know if you guys are interested !
Later.

Rogers hasn't released the Android updates for any rogers Android users yet. I have a Magic, and I'm still on 1.5 also.

I'll be getting one this week. Tried it out at a rogers store and its really nice. Keyboard is great, and the camera is one of the best I've seen on a phone.

Ability to play divx is cool too!

Yeah, its not rootable yet... but I'm sure that will come in time.

I bought the Eve a couple of days ago. I'm a basic user, hoping to have the option of tweaking but not sure if I can do much if I can't root. Although, I enjoy having it, I experienced one main problem. After a while, the phone becomes sluggish...perhaps because all my apps are on internal memory. I did d/l an app that ends all active apps and that seemed to fix my problem. Perhaps a bug in 1.5?

I'm not sure if it's because this is a Rogers phone or not but it's quite slow booting up if turn off the phone...at least 2 mins for the homescreen to be useable.

As for the Eve receiving an Android 2.0 update? It's hard to say. From what I've read, it might not happen but if we all complained to Rogers about this, it might just happen...I'm trying to be optimistic

Check out this thread: http://androidforums.com/t-mobile-g1/10647-rogers-dream-1-6-update.html

@nescient: My HTC Magic also takes a long time to boot up, but since I seldom turn the phone off, it's not really a problem.

As for sluggishness, I think the LG Eve has less memory than the Magic? I use TasKiller to keep a lot of BG apps from running and keep my memory trim. :-)

Flash doesn't work in android yet. It's supposed to be coming eventually.

Default Rogers LG EVE "Great Deal"

I just received mine last week, I am totally in love with it, It is a great design and has tons of features and apps, and with the new OS on it there is going to be thousands more to come, I have been playing around with movies on it, so far I have Zombieland, Avatar, Family Guy on it, and it plays them flawlessly with great picture quality, The only think I didn't like was the lack of games but with the Market there is lot's to choose from, The feature I wish it has was being able to put your own games on the SD card and install them, It wasn't availiable but I dugg around and found a app on the Market called OI File Manager which gives you full access to your Phone Storage and SD, so you can browse the folders or make them, and also store some games on the SD and use it to install them, It works great. I also found a player that is supposed to allow us to play other formats like Xvid, it is located at Mobilesoft
But other than that I hope that Roger's can get the apps for this phone up and running, It would be nice to see some new Firmware and Android 2.0 updates to download. But for now I am content with the phone, Roger's had a great deal on it. It came with the phone, USB cable, AC Charger, 2GB SD card, Nokia BH-804 Bluetooth Headset which works excellent on it.

Try a application called OI File Manager from the Market, It is a great app, it allows you to browse your SD card or Phone and you can delete folders or make folders or simply search for things on the SD like pictures, games ect, I downloaded it so I could install games from my SD and it works like a charm. It also has a lot of other features to.

Canuckchick: You can not currently run apps from the SD card. Google says they will add this feature in a future version of Android.

At the moment you can only install/run apps from the internal memory, however the size of the app files are so small you aren't like to run out. I have about 100+ apps currently installed on my HTC Magic, and I still have space available.

Thank you...I figured this out when i read the FAQ in the software section...
Guess I should have checked there first.
Ok now don't smack me but last question. Can you get rid of some of the apps that came with the phone? I figure i won't use em and they are just wasting space.

Yes, all you need to do is go to Settings and then click Applications , under there you will see Manage Applications. Just Browse through the list and remove the Apps you don't want, just be careful not to delete anything important. LOL. It make is very easy to uninstall the apps to. Just click it and it pops up with the uninstall buttuon. I myself have downloaded and installed a lot of apps and then deleted the one I didn't like, the only thing is make sure to keep a eye on the SD card for a lot of the apps make folders and after you uninstall them the folder is still there. I just go in and delete it.

does anyone know of a way to get the updated firmware for the android phones?? There has to be a way. If it is available in the states then there must be a way to get your hands on it and apply the update to our android phones. It really peeves me off that Rogers is not supporting it.

@Brunswick: Yes, you would have to root your phone and install a custom ROM. Please don't ask how here, you can search the forum and find lots of threads about rooting your Android phone.

Please let's keep this thread on topic for information about updates to Android on the LG Eve.

Rogers is really starting to get sloppy with the information. I have had my LG Eve for over 2 weeks and when I received it I got the free headset with it and that was all the deal said, I call in to add some features and the CSR lady asks how I am enjoying my free bonus's I am like what are you talking about, She states you have the following free. Unlimited calling for 1 month, 2 months unlimited internet, and 5 free uRmusic downloads. I was glad to hear this but I could have been making more calls and browsing and downloading a lot more and then I try to get me free songs to find out its not even on my phone, I can get the songs but I have to download them to the PC for there is no way to get the uRmusic on my cell, only if I transfer them to the SD. So that went by, then I call in about Voicemail and Call Display, so they tell me to get the package with everything including Mobile Backup. So I agree and then guess what happens when I try to use Mobile Backup. My phone is not supported gee what a shock, they have all your info listed there it should tell them what services I can use and not use. Just makes me frustrated after getting this phone and it was supposed to be the one of the top Smart Phones and was able to do everything. So now I have to call Rogers and see what I can do for this extra feature that I cannot use.

Cool phone with lots of potential, but many minor flaws.

1) Divx doesn't play
2) No voice dialing
3) No in call recording feature
4) My first phone had constant "connection errors", but my new phone is ok.

I never had the infamous black screen but had one phone call freeze on me in mid-call, which is not bad considering how many call's I've taken.

@Apag - Part of the answer will depend on the OS you have on your computer. I am using Windows 7, however in general, after you attached your phone to your computer via the USB cord you should hear a Bing noise indicating the connection. If you pull down your Notification Tray you should see two notices. One says "USB Connected" and the other says "HTC Sync".

If you press on the one that says "USB Connected" you will be asked if you want to "mount" the SD card. There are now two buttons "Mount" and "Don't Mount". Press "Mount".

If you have Windows, an "AutoStart" window should open up on your computer screen asking if you want to explore the folder. Click on open or explore, and the contents of your SD card will be shown in an explorer window. You can now drag and drop music and photos or video to and from your SD card. I'm not sure if the set up is different on the LG Eve, but on the Magic and Dream SD cards, photos and videos go in the DCIM folder, and music goes in the "music" folder.

It is very important that when you are done you DO NOT unplug the USB cord without first unmounting the SD card. Close the explorer window on our computer, then pull down the notification tray on your phone. You will see a notification that says "Turn off USB storage". Press this to unmount the SD card. When it is finished, you can unplug the USB cable.

Default Eve trouble

I just got the Eve a few days ago; I cannot figure out how to enter my voicemail password on the touch screen.
I like the option of holding down the "1" key and it goes to voicemail, but is a huge pain opening the slide each time to enter my password. The phone displays the password on the touchscreen if I type it there, but the voice keeps saying "having trouble try again later". I do not want to open the keypad each time. Someone help.
PS. The staff at the Rogers store have no idea.

When you are on a call I think you can slide up a tab from the bottom that will bring the virtual keypad.

wait I'll give it a try right now as I type.

i have both the htc dream and the lg eve. there are of course pros and cons for both. i love the htc dream and the lg eve. i use the lg eve more than i use the dream. the lg eve is a bit smaller in size but it very easy to use and i have more apps on it than i do the htc dream. at least 35-40. i found the htc says "internal memory low" and i have not recieved that message yet from my lg eve. i do find that the touch screen is more sensitive than the htc dream and it cannot use voice dialing because it is not supported on the phone. as for srorage space on the sd card they are both equal. i used my music list form my pc and filled them both and they had the exact amount on each. the htc did have to have a software update for 911 dialing but since then it works perfectly.

Default Eve Blows

I got rid of the LG Eve. It was to unreliable. I have not had a problem since switching to the iPhone. The eve had a mind of its own, doing actions that were not inputed, switching pages, going back a page, sometimes retrieve emails.

I have two batteries for sale for the LG eve if anyone is interested, they are new.

i had same problems until i downloaded and installed the update (you'll need winXP to do that). also, to preserve batt life, install "taskiller" and "commentalb" apps from market (free) - the latter is also an awesome task switcher. i've had mine for 5months now and really like my phone!

Get it from the LG website.
http://www.lg.com/ca_en/support/product/support-product-profile-mobile-redux.jsp?customerModelCode=GW620R&initialTab=driv ers&targetPage=support-product-profile-mobile-redux

For Rogers I think its the proper one but I updated mine from the LG website and it went like a charm:

Default Question about those on Rogers service

Did you have to pay the $179 for the phone upfront or is that waived or something?

It says the phone costs a total of $400; and will cost at least $20/month (I'm guessing that's for an Emergency phone).

There's a deal on right now where it's $30 for the very basic talk plan + one option aka My5 or unlimited social networking or unlimited text. But it keeps saying the total is the $179 plus the phone plan and activation...

It's on their website....confusing much.

I find them confusing at the best of times! I think what you have to remember is that the LG Eve is a "Smartphone". If you want a smartphone you *have to* get a Data Plan. You cannot get a phone and just have the basic talk.

There are a couple of options if you are set on getting a Smartphone but don't want to pay for a Data Plan.
1) Buy your phone on Kijiji or EBay and then slip your Rogers sim card in and you're good to go. Then if you need data for 24 hrs you can buy their day pass for $3.99.
2) I was told that you can buy the phone, pay for data for a month and then cancel. It will cost you $100 cancellation fee but you get to keep the phone. I have not tried this option so I cannot confirm this is true.

Hope that helps to clarify things a bit.

Oh the 179.00 isn't part of the plan apparently...it's paid upfront. That's why I don't understand why it was on there.

Because first just before the installation it redirect me on internet and then they ask me to chose my country and the forgot about CANADA an USA.....

Whatever I ****ing hate my phone. IT SUCK!

And by the way I wont never never buy LG again it over !!!

I'm not happy to have to lose my ****ing time to find a solution when it the ****ing LG company they had produce a peace of shit software!!!!

If you are having issues, you should just upgrade to Openetna's 2.1 image(openetna - Project Hosting on Google Code). I was having a lot of quirky issues with my phone until I upgraded. its not yet perfect (my video camera doesn't work right now) but they are getting very close. Plus it has way more functions and 2.1 is compatable with more apps (including flash!)

We are still waiting for LG to update the Eve to 1.6. I think it's highly unlikely it will ever see anything beyond that, if it even gets 1.6.

The LG Eve was leaked on LG's own website through the User Agent Profile. Listing the device as having an "Android Webkit" browser, its pretty obvious that the Eve has Android. Other known specs include a QWERTY keyboard, 320×48... Read More
