Default Text messaging icon not going away

On my LG Lucid whenever I get a new text, the icon next to the user still says 1 or 2 or 3, depending on how many texts they have just sent.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

I just recently updated my phone to the ICS software too.

Thanks!!!

Is this a count of all the texts in the thread or just the new ones?

It may be an option in the messaging app (to show unread texts). If that's not it I would say try clearing the cache and data and seeing what happens.

I cleared the cache last night and it seemed to be working fine, till this afternoon.

I just gave up and downloaded the Handcent SMS APP and it works perfect!

All these problems started happening since the ICS update

The ICS upgrade is more like a DOWNgrade

Unfortunately we hear that a lit about upgrades....it will fix some things and sends others into never never land. I'm glad to hear you like handcent as a replacement. Don't forget to turn off the notifications for your stock messaging app so you don't receive duplicate notifications.

If I turn it off, I won't receive any verizon texts then right?

I'm just afraid I'll miss something important.

You're only turning off the notification, not the entire messaging app. Handcent will notify you of new texts.
