I apologize for being a newbie at this but, I was wondering if it would be possible to root my phone [LG Marquee LS855 w/ Android 2.3.4 (Boost Mobile)] so I could uninstall bloatware from boost (ID, Latitude, Places, Maps, possibly a few others..) and possibly to stop the auto-start of certain programs that no matter which app. I use I cannot get them to stop. Seems as if my phone is always using 300 or 350MB of my 512MB ram leaving me only 150MB, which when low causes my status/notification pull down bar at the top to disappear. I have heard that it is possible after rooting my phone I may not be able to use WiFi.. Is there any truth to that? Any answers would be very helpful. This is my first android phone I thank you for your help in advance.

Seems no matter where I try to post this it is not the correct place and they give me somewhere new to put it, lol. Sorry about that. Just want to root my phone and get these questions answered. I only want to root it if I can do the things described above. Also if possible the overclock app. Would I benefit from rooting the Boost Mobile LG Marquee? Thanks All.

If you have to ask if you need to root then you don't need to root at all! Honestly we are a long way before we can do any of what your trying to do.

Can't overclock the phone cause we need a overclock kernel, which can't be done until we get a working clockworkmod or a custom recovery of some sort.

You can root and remove mobile id and certain things in the phone with root needed apps.

DON'T go to crazy because some apps are needed to operate the phone and will cause force closes and since we don't have a way to go back to stock yet your pretty much stuck with a "brick" phone!

Really unless your want to tether and remove apps you know you don't need and know that they are safe to remove, i would really stay away from rooting process!

Is this just an issue with the LG Marquee, or all phones? I have read that there are people that have used the OverClock Kernal on other phones. I would be willing to make a recovery of my phone stock if I was instructed how. I also see it this way.. In worse case scenario I can pay Boost Mobie the $35 and they will ship me a new one because I pay the extra $5/mo. for the insurance. I really just need to get rid of a few apps that always run in the background using a ton of ram. (Especially apps I never use i.e. Google Maps, Maps Latitude, Boost ID, Polaris Office, clock, and Google Places). Thanks to 903Tex for your support thus far!

i just got the phone and noticed that the hotspot capability is turned off for boost lg marquee.

does anyone know of an app or how to make hotspot possible without rooting?

On my Boost Marquee it does not have a hotspot option. From what I have been reading you do have to root it and use http:// code.google .com /p/android-wifi-tether/

Not 100% if that is for our model phone though.

You have to root to have tether. Also custom recovery is something to learn about on xda under the chief section.

Buy the PDA Net app at June Fabrics PDA Technology Group The free version blocks all https websites. The app in conjunction with FoxFi (a free app)will give you a wireless hot spot.

How do i go about flashing this phone to boostmobile?
