4G Data Speeds ?
Hello All,
I dont know if this belongs here, if it doesnt, Dont be afraid to let me know.
Anyways. In Woonsocket, Rhodeisland (My Location)
I found that the "4G LTE" really isnt 4G, But whats new, its metro.
This is what i get for 4G Speeds in Woonsocket, RI:
But yet, in pawtucket, its Just a little bit faster,
Now im guessing this is because They just rolled out 4G LTE in woonsocket in July. Now should we expect these speeds to increase?
My buddy who is an Authorized Dealer for MetroPCS says that in 2013 MetroPCS should improve a great bunch due to its network now supporting "VoLTE" (Voice Over LTE)
Now if MetroPCS would increase the 4G Data speeds, They would outrun alot of big name providers due to it being cheaper, but this 4G is really not 4g, its like a good 3G
Metro Did wrong by bypassing 3g to go straight into 4G, yes we know that. If MetroPCS finishes rolling out all of its 4G LTE, and increases the speeds, that would be nice. However, i have heard that MetroPCS has currently put a data cap on it to limit us. I dont know if this is true, but if it is, I see some point in doing it, but then i dont. To me, if you roll out 4G, it should be full 4G speeds, not 3G naming it as 4G. I have been with MetroPCS since March 2011, and since had no other problem with them except the slow 1x/4G data speeds. Last time i called them (before i got a 4G Phone) they said i had 3G in my area, so i had told them about it saying 1X, and they said 1x is their 3g, i said no sir, you are incorrect, 1x is 2g data speeds. Well, im out.. Leave comments below

Hello All,

Technically speaking you were both right. 1X is a 3G technology. And it tends to max out at 2G speeds.
In the future we'll probably look back at LTE the same way. Since it is basically in the same boat for the 3G/4G jump.
In Deltona Fl, I rand SpeedTest and got 4353 down and 1695 up
Best down is 4353, best up was 4947. I'd call that not totally shabby.
On the bleak side....
Worst down 72, worst up 85, when phone said EV instead of 4G
Most of the 4G areas I try SpeedTest in give me about 2500 down and 1500 up. Thats in metropolitan south Fl. Was in Tampa yesterday was doing about the same.
Not uncommon to get upload speeds that surpass download speeds by a bunch.

About 1300 down here in NYC, same in NJ.
I look at it this way- it may not be the fastest 4G out there, but it's still more than 10x as fast as my old 1x and everything on the phone is quite snappy and works as well as I need it to. Plus the benefit of LTE is still there (simultaneous talk and data), and with the $55 plan I can use as much as I want.
Maybe someday it will get faster around here, but it's not a dealbreaker.
im hoping a metro big shot reads this thread and takes pity on me and finds some more spectrum in my area.if my local carrier that only serves central pa can find some i dont see why metro shouldnt be able to.

not that easy when you own your own system and not piggy back on the big guys..unless you grease some pockets that is

hate to break it to you but they dont piggyback.its their own towers and they didnt have any problems finding the spectrum they needed.metropcs could do the same but are they willing to open up their wallets to do it.
In 1X areas I am 100kbs up and down, in 4G areas I am usually around 2.5Mbits down/1mbit up. My best was 9mbits down and 4mbits up. My pings in 4G areas vary from 150-300 and in 1X areas they vary from 500-1000. I am on the 40$ a month plan which is essentially a 3G plan.

Where were you in the dfw area? I live near garland/mesquite area, but work in Irving. I haven't gotten a 4G phone yet, but would like to know where I would get good speed for when I do get a phone with 4G.
The LG Motion 4G is another mid-tier device, this time headed straight to Metro PCS customers. It may not be a superphone you have beend reaming of, but it will do great considering its $150 price-point.
