Default Just Got My Motion

So, I ditched the Samsung Admire which honestly wasn't too bad, especially after the 3G tweak, but I just couldn't resist what the Motion was offering for the price tag. I also could not resist that $55 Unlimited Plan. Now I have the phone, and I have the plan, and I am golden. Now, in a couple months, I can giggle at the people paying $70 for the same plan :P

Anyway, I do indeed know you can remove SOME of the bloatware, but the cool part is, you can disable A LOT of it which does seem to clear the space until you enable it, but I will be checking back from time to time for a root.

I do have a couple of questions though,

My first question is, when you go into Application Manager, there's a app called Marionette, but in the app drawer there isn't a shortcut for it. I am just wondering what it is exactly?

My second question is, since there really isn't a legit legit root yet, I was wondering what Cache Cleaners do you recommend that works JUST AS GOOD on a non-rooted phone as the ones are on rooted phones?

Thanks for you time.

The marionette is a puppet live wallpaper and you can root the phone and use anything you want for cache
A good cache cleaner I use for unrooted phone is called app cache cleaner the icon is a Green Arrow.

No NO, I meant like, I read that people did roots, and its like, not 100% tested or something, so any real root you guys have used, that would be great to know of as well.

Also, any idea about making the email sound different than the text sound?

...it is 100% rooted.....whatever you're reading is from people thinking the same as you....if you read the camera's not working, that can be fixed.

What's the problem? The rooting method works fine and you are rooted...root either works or it doesn't, there is no 50% root.....please share the posts you are ttalking about.

I never even said I was rooted yet, I was just asking for a trusted root from you guys " the community " before attempting one I found elsewhere.

I also asked if the email sound can be set different than the text message sound...that is more important to me right now then rooting.

OK, I found it.

You have to set the text tone through the sound settings, and the email tone through gmail app.

Just ignore the trolling fellas. You can root the phone and it's pretty legit method.

I know you're not rooted yet....if you found a root tutorial on YouTube, its based off of the root thread from here...

Indeed, I just wasn't sure how many people have already done it that's why I did not want to jump the gun since it's a new phone.. well new to me. Not sure exactly when it dropped, but if you share the one you used with me, would be great. Thanks!

There is a whole sub-forum at the top of this one dedicated to phone development.

Who was trolling?
That's how arguments get started.

I'm glad you found root, don't know how you didn't know where it was if your a senior member. Anyways be careful with deleting bloatware. You can brick then you have to read the "trolls" unbricking guide.

no doubt the first thing you need to do is put a donate button on your sig so people can get on that its not fair that you put your time and effort in, everybody does stuff out of the good of hacking and no one asks for money but hey a little beer fund aint nothing wrong with that

You know, in all honesty. It is rather odd the responses you get sometimes. I've been rather surprised with the "if you aren't going to help"-type responses you get from time to time. Especially when it seems like it isn't really a common response around here.

Me too, I think people just find my posts too short and they don't really see answers in the short posts, but the answer is right there!! I'm a straight to the point kind of guy...I'm not going to restate the authors question, etc....I'm not writing an essay, jeez! Just doing short answers.

I haven't been on this forum in a very long time so I wasn't too sure where to look anymore.

and on another note

the root is in reality for LG Optimus 4X HD so even though it may work with the Motion, I dont think I am going to be taking the chance. It's like I said originally, a legit motion root.

and on another note

the root is in reality for LG Optimus 4X HD so even though it may work with the Motion, I dont think I am going to be taking the chance. It's like I said originally, a legit motion root.
Not may. It does work. Everyone here has rooted with it. I don't think anyone is gonna make a specific root for the motion. Everyone moved on to a custom recovery.

Its legit. Let me tell you how:

You had a Samsung Admire.
It was rooted with a 1-click app.
That app was originally made for a higher end phone, but worked on other phones.
I could use the same root method from the Samsung Admire on my Optimus M.

If you want someone to find a root method by using a Motion to find it's weak spots to root, well you WILL be waiting for an eternity. Good luck!

yeah , I wasn't being too down to earth earlier. I guess I wanted to see a Motion root so bad that i wasn't giving the root for it a chance :P

I am still going to hold off on the root for now because for some reason I don't feel too comfy doing it right now. Maybe in a bit.

^ Yep.

The thing to keep in mind is that these are not unique systems. They are built by corporations. Corporations love to save money. If they can reuse things they will. The hardware is also similar across company lines. Which means that what works in one phone can quite easily work in another phone. Even across company lines.

As a result, it is often easier/faster to look for an existing exploit that works, rather then invent a whole new one. As Sammyz said, someone isn't going to do all the work from scratch when it already exists in another form. It would end up being the same exact thing. And in a sense we already see this concept at work with the root method linked here. Since a person could have rewritten the existing method to look like it originated with the Motion and taken full credit for it, but it was faster and easier (and a bit more honest) to link to the existing method and simply tell the user what to change.

Technically there is no legit method to root since rooting is itself unofficial .

How exploit based rooting methods work .
An Exploit opens up insecure shell on your device.(Also known as temporary shell root, temp root ,adb #...)

You push the su binary and superuser.apk (or SuperSU/su ,)and probably busybox via the temp. insecure shell and make the root permanent .

Exploits may vary/work device wide to manufacturer wide to Android wide (zergrush and ratc)

/About non root cache cleaner
I have heard some good stuff about ES Task Manager

Also sammyz is an ork not troll .

Lol, Ork - Troll...

The Motion is prob the first anything Android device I won't root. IMHO you can disable enough of the bloatware without root. And really, The phone out of the box/stock is not all that bad.

I think LG and many other makers out there are going to realize that if they give the user the option at full markets and disabling the bloatware for the most part then there won't be as much of an interest in, and I'll use the term "Hacking" by the common folk. Sure there will always be the select few that wants to totally "own" their device but for once I think LG got it right with this phone.

So you're saying that a legit root would only be if OEM released it??? Ok....LG will never release a legit root, so an unofficial legit root has been found.....

Rate this Phone:

The LG Motion 4G is another mid-tier device, this time headed straight to Metro PCS customers. It may not be a superphone you have beend reaming of, but it will do great considering its $150 price-point.  It's 1.2 GHz dual-core processor... Read More
