Sad Phone locked on "S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading..."

Im in desperate need of some help!

I just hooked my LG Optimus X2 P990 up to my windows computer (have only plugged it into my macbook pro until now just to transfer files) and installed all the LG software for windows, so it tells me theres an update and im like "ok lets get that over with".

It starts updating then stops and tells me theres an error with the phone and tells me to unplug my battery and put it back in and restart the update, i do this 6 times still the same. Now i cant do anything with it, the phone is locked on:
S/W Upgrade
Please wait
while upgrading...
no matter what i do.
I tried "Recovery Phone" on the LGMobile Support Tool, i enter the S/N and IMEI it tells me theres an Fatal Error with the phone, if i try to update it again it suddenly tells me there is no update supported for this phone, LG PC Suite IV cant find my phone, its stuck! Been trying to fix it for 2hrs now! Tried googling, the manual, LG support page and found no solution, nothing!

Is there a to get my phone back the way it was?

head over to MoDaCo's Optimus 2X section and try the NVFlash method to return your phone to stock.

i dont think there is an update, so forget about that.

If you do, whats the issue now, you cant connect your phone to your pc?

There was. Denmark and italy based phones (so far I think) received an updated baseband last week.
I'll say it again, use Pauls NVFlash method to completely reflash your phone.

Thx for the suggestion, i checked out MoDaCo's but i think it only works if u have some kind of access to your phone, cant get past:
"Turn device off, remove battery, plug device in while holding volume up and down - screen will stay black but Windows will add a new 'APX' device"
No matter where i plug it in i cant get any of my computers to recognize it.

And if i plug it into any kind of power source its still stuck on:

Its a good thing i have 2 phones or i woud be so screwed right now.

I called LG and they said its a common problem with a firmware update.
They told me to send it in for service where i bought it and they would repair it, it was the only solution they had for it. So i sent it inn, and about a week later i got i back, on the service note it said that they had exchanged the motherboard on the phone.

I Had the same problem, but I think that all depends on the lg suite. or the site that you download it. I tried in two different sites and finally I succeed in both, pc and lap top. try to uninstall and re-install the lg suite from different sites.

don't worry, it still have a solution for that

you can try reflash your optimus 2x with Smartflash.

but first, you must download the firmware and Smartflash and its driver

* sorry as i'm a newbie here, i can't post a link yet you can search google with keyword: "LG Optimus 2x P990 Original ROM's", "SmartFlash P990" and "SmartFlash drivers" *

after you download it, extract it, install smartflash drivers to your computer and follow this instructions:
  • Run the SmartFlashTool_P990.exe application on your windows (use "Run As Administrator" if you run it from windows 7...)
  • Turn device off, remove battery, plug device with cabledata to computer in while holding volume down - you should see a software update message on screen and the COM port should be filled automatically in the flash application below after installing the drivers if required.
  • Select the 'ROM Copy D/L' tab
  • Ensure 'Normal Mode' is selected
  • Ensure 'Erase CAL' is NOT selected
  • Click the browse button next to 'AP Bin:' and select the (BIN) file
  • Click the browse button next to 'CP Bin:' and select the (FLS) file
  • Click 'Start' and wait for the flash to complete

unplug your device from computer, put the battery back, and turn on your device...

Smartflash is the way to go but at the moment I'm searching for ways to update the phone without any hitches.

Hello, I will start out by admitting that I am a complete newbie at this android stuff. I got the original error in the OP, after attempting to update the phone software. After finding this thread I attempted to flash the phone with the original rom. I've downloaded two different roms (Euro Open v10c NEU and v10c EUR, I didn't know the difference between the two, but v10c was AFAIK the last update that was installed on my phone). So when I try to follow the instructions from a few posts up, the following happens:

02:55.6 Sec :Num of partitions are 7
03:04.1 Sec :Partition download complete.
03:04.3 Sec :Partition download complete.
03:04.7 Sec :Partition download complete.
03:21.6 Sec :Timeout error is occured
03:21.6 Sec :error!

I can't seem to find a people with similar issues through Google, so I was hoping that somebody here would have an idea what happens?

I managed to fix it, so I case anyone has the same problem and ends up in this thread.. I think there is an issue with the new LG USB drivers on some machines.. Installing the drivers that "come with" the smartflash utility (ie. an older version) made it work for me.

LG flashing updates are appalling, and they have done NOTHING to put it right. I had the same problem, and had to send it back to LG at Renfrew (Scotland, just over the border) and I got it back a week later, fine and dandy, with the Gingerbread update on it. Will I try the ICS update ? I have doubts.
BUT - if it looks as if it's taking a while to download (my failed upgrade took 3 and 3 quarter hours to download - thats appalling for DIAL UP) then I'll stop it there and then but I dunno....

Sad LG Optimus Black stuck on S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading...

I have my LG Optimus black P970 connected to my windows computer and installed all the LG software for windows, so it tells me theres an update and went ahead with it.

It starts updating during upgrading then stops on the screen
S/W Upgrade
Please wait
while upgrading...

Now i cant do anything with it, the phone is locked no matter what i do
I tried "Recovery Phone" on the LGMobile Support Tool, i enter the S/N and IMEI it tells me theres an check phone info and does not go through, if i try to update it again it suddenly tells me "The Cell phone is the latest version already. So you don't need to update". its stuck! Been trying to fix it for 2hrs now! Tried google, however no luck.

Is there a to get my phone back the way it was.

Any one can help...!!!

This really sucks! LG should provide better tools.
I wanted to update to Gingerbread, and I said to myself: this is the official app from LG - it should work. And surprise! it didn't. If I didn't read this thread I would've been stuck with a bricked phone. Thanks for pointing out Smartflash. The phone came back from the dead.
Now, don't try to do what I did. I retried upgrading the phone software in the hope I could get Gingerbread. I tried twice - first time Smartflash worked fine, second time I almost lost hope. It kept giving me timeout errors, but worked in the end after many attempts. So if you manage to revive it, leave it like that!
I'm still not happy about not being able to update to Gingerbread (V20l I thinks the firmware should be). Does anybody know a safe way of doing it? (I don't think I'm touching Smartflash ever again, even though it did rescue me this time.)

Yeah, this screwed my pone too - I had to send it back as I had only just bought the thing just before Xmas (dec 23 it arrived, buggered by Dec 24 morning). It was repaired by LG and I got it back 2 and a half weeks later. Been terrified about doing anything with it since.
I have since been told the awful LG software is to blame if your system is too modern, Windows 7, 64 bit kind of thing (which mine is) when ICS finally comes out, I'll use my laptop I think, an old Mac Book.

I solved this lastnight:

in the same program you use to upgrade yous device (LG mobile update) theres an option in the menu called recovery and emergency mode (I have this software in Spanish, so Im not sure if its the right translation) all you need to fill is your IMEI, ESN or MEID and you phone model and the program will run the update again..

Hope it works for you too

Edit: didn't read all your post, sorry
