I just bought this screen protector and hard rubber shell.
Black Snap On Hard Shield Cover Case For LG Optimus Elite LS696 + LCD Guard | eBay

Not sure this will fit into the case I had for my V after I put the hard shell on.

I just got those same screen protectors (AM brand, I think from BargainCell on Amazon. They fit/feel pretty well.

Case options seem pretty limited right now. I'm not a fan of the snap together two piece cases, it just seems too easy to break a tab if need to take it off/on to get to the battery/SD card or whatever, but that's just my opinion. I ordered a Technocell rubberized case from Amazon also, but it's still out of stock. I'd link it but I'm too noob still.

Hopefully we'll get some more options soon.

I really want a case like the Otterbox Commuter series I have for the V . . . but for now I've ordered this from amazon. Don;t have it yet, but it looks okay, and the price is low.

The Elite is only just a tad larger than my iPhone 3G. I have some cases from my iPhone that it almost fits into.

I too would love to see an otterbox defender (but would settle for a commuter). Hopefully since the Elite is on Sprint as well as VMUSA (and hopefully others soon) that Otterbox will design one for us.

One thing is for sure, this phone needs a case, IMO. The hard plastic backside is super slippery!

Default zagg invisibleshield

I noticed the Zagg InvisibleShield at Best Buy yesterday when I went to buy the Elite. Obviously there isn't one for the Elite yet, but does anyone know of another model that would be close enough to use? Seems like a really great screen protector.

There's a free screen protector on the phone, just clip the small plastic tab on the top of phone that is normally meant to be used to peel off the plastic film. Works very well, very responsive!

I've often done that initially, but my experience has been that dust easily migrates under it over time. However, in this case, it pulled back soon after I bought it and wasn't going to stay, so that's unfortunately not an option.

Just posted my review of this case on Amazon. I'm pretty satisfied overall, considering there aren't too many options out there right now.

Thanks for the link. Is that a hard case? My experience with hard shell cases is that if the phone drops from a certain height, the case doesn't protect from shattering the screen since there's no bounce or give, whereas silicone/rubber let's it bounce a little.

The clear back is hard plastic and still kind of slippery on hard surfaces but the black surround is sort of a hard rubber that has a bit more grip. One thing I like is it's a one piece case and it fits really snugly, so you know it's not going to fly apart if you do drop it.

Hi all...

Just got the Elite and ordered a case from ebay; 2 plastic pieces and a 3rd silicon rubber piece on the outside.

After I put it on, I thought it was really cool case. Nice and secure, came off easily and put it back together...

The second time going to take the case apart was almost impossible. Something was stuck and the more I tried to pry it open, the more the phone would get wedged in the case. The phone was in a position where if I tried to force the case open, the phone was going to break.

The case didn't come with a pry tool, but I ended using a guitar pick to increase the spacing and finally get it off. After, I noticed the skin on my fingers was ripped up, fingertips numb and my fingernails damaged.

It was really frightening for a bit there and I caution if anyone considers getting one of these 2 piece plastic cases. Apparently, if you set one of the corners wrong, this may happen.

The case is definitely going back and will be getting a one piece case where I can just pop the phone out.

Just a quick review on this soft case. It fits really well and gives the phone a bit more grip. I don't know how much protection it would be in a drop, but it's definitely better than naked. For $8 and change shipped it's not bad at all. All the openings line up perfectly, and it has a nice snug fit. I still want an otterbox, though.

Mine installed. I'm pretty happy with it so far, minimalist, sturdy, fits well. Last I looked on amazon the black was out of stock again, but there may have been other colors available.

Hard rubber around the edges, just flexible enough to fit it around the phone.

Hard, clear plastic back with an embossed pattern.

I am really unsure of which one I want. I want a soft rubber case that isn't flimsy. It needs to also protect the screen from dropping it. I found Amazon.com: Technocel LG696HGBK Hybrigel with Wave Pattern for LG LS696 Optimus Elite - 1 Pack - Carrying Case - Non-Retail Packaging - Black/Clear: Cell Phones & Accessories and Amzer® Silicone Skin Jelly Case - Black For LG Optimus Elite VM969,Virgin Mobile LG Optimus Elite LS969 but im not sure which is better choice. Any one have a suggestion?

The pics I just posted are of the Technocel case. It's not flimsy, but it's not soft rubber either. I like it fwiw.

I have a Sprint LG Elite case for mine too. It is a Ventev, picked it up at the local sprint kiosk in the mall. It is harder than a silicone case, but still soft and pliable. It is slick, but doesn't feel like the device is going to fly out of my hand if I draw it from my pocket too fast. It was about $20.

I'll post pictures at some point.

Hey, I have a question. I was looking on lg's site and they list the vm696 elite with corna gorrilla screen protector. I've got my ov laying next to my elite and the screen does appear to be glass. My question is do we even need a screen protector for this phone? CORNING® GORILLA® GLASS | CONSUMERS

Need? Not sure. But mine was always smudged before I got my screen protector, I was constantly having to wipe it clean. It doesn't look quite as sharp now (it is an anti-glare protector) but it looks better than when it was smudged to heck.

Good point! I still have the protector that came on the phone and it smudges Pratt bad . I may have to grab a good one. Thanks for pointing that out.

Just search Ebay for Optimus Elite Armor, thats the case I just bought and love it. It is almost OtterBox like in build, just wish it had a clip. I haven't been able to find one with a clip yet.

Just curious, where are seeing that the screen is Gorilla Glass? I thought the jury was still out on that.

A LG Optimus on the Virgin Mobile network with Gorilla Glass?

I would have thought the Jury would have already decided it was innocent of that charge. Lol

Go to the LG website and look at the specs. Straight from the LG website, doesn't say Gorilla Glass Screen, but a Gorilla Glass Screen Protector.

Optimus Elite VM696

Camera with Flash, Corning®
Gorilla® Glass Screen Protector,

Edit: Was looking at the Wrong phone. Duh!
It did say the screen was by Corning, with a Gorilla glass screen protector. I guess I'll have to google "Gorrilla Glass screen protector".

Had to go to Corning's site and checked out a list of LG phones with Gorilla Glass. No mention of the Elite, but, I also didn't see any mention of the screen protector. The site isn't updated very regular.

No mention of Gorilla Glass, usually means no Gorilla Glass
Maybe you can link to the Page you saw it mentioned on?
It doesn't say it on the sprint version, but follow the link I posted, and you'll see it on the the VM 696.

That's really interesting, nice sleuthing! FWIW, my opinion is I'd rather have something on there and not need it than need it and not have it.

I thought it had gorilla glass myself too, but I haven't taken off the protector that came with the phone yet.

If they are calling the plastic screen protector "gorilla glass", then I want a refund cause after 4 days it's already scratched up pretty bad.

I bought the phone because of the gorilla glass it said the phone has on the LG website, but the LG website is also wrong about the speed of the CPU.

I ordered some more protectors anyway, just in case, but I'd like to know for sure if it has it or not.

They are referring to the actual screen itself, not the plastic protector.

With conflicting reports such as this, it's easy to be confused whether it is or not.

Default 2 piece cases

I got a rather nice case out of a flea market for my MT. The slot in the side is perfect for a US penny or dime. Why break your nails? My OV had a rubber case. Both had ZAGG Invishields. I would rather spend money protecting the glass against harm, (from junk in my purse) and get a cheap case. Than the other way around!

According to a review I just found on cnet.com, the screen really is gorilla glass.

Wow it's true, I would have never thought a phone for $129.99 would be this great, 1GHz processor, gorilla glass and more

That's bothersome, but they did give a link for the LS696 (which I believe is the Sprint model) instead of the VM696 which is the Virgin Mobile model.

Or they are blind or whoever created the datasheet and website listing was misinformed.

FWIW, I just called LG at 1-800-243-0000 and asked if the LG VM696 had Gorilla Glass. A woman assured me that this particular model does have Gorilla Glass.
