I've been using 3G Watchdog and have no complaints. Been using it for almost 2 years.

I have the unlimited data plan so is this something that would be useful to me?

I usually keep the 3G turned off, but the downside of that is if my wife texts me pictures, I don't get them. Even if I'm on wifi and click the "Download" button - it say's "downloading", but I never find the picture on the phone or in Gallery.

thanks

MMS requires 3g to download pics or videos. If she texts you a pic and you have 3g off you will get the text message portion but it won't download pic until you enable 3g. Mms attachments won't download ovet wifi.

The only reason you may want to monitor 3g is eve.n though VM is unlimited 3g they do throttle you after 2.5gb. You still have internet but at a slower speed. Some people monitor usage so they can keep track of how close they are the the limit.

Chances are you won't exceed this limit unless you use 3g heavily.

i use nothing. i let it burn like a candle..all the way down to the end...leave my 3G smoldering like a hump of melted wax...no lol,i use 3G watchdog and i also use opera mini to compress data use for most things web related while on the device. unless i need access to full site, then i switch over to opera mobile or the cm 10 stock browser.

I feel your pain Murf - lol.

3G sucks the life out of my battery, so I leave it off too. When I get a SMS, I turn 3G on and hope I have enough bandwidth to download it. I also use 3G Watchdog, mostly to see if any Apps are using too much resources.

If I have 3G off and then turn it on to get the pictures, it has an expiration time that you have to download the pictures by. So have to be alert to messages and turn 3G on right away if they are SMS!

I used Onavo Count for the entirety of my last billing period and liked it for the first half of the month. After that I started using DoggCatcher and it was reporting a lot of data used with that app that wasn't being used. It went from being less than 100 kb different than my provider's reported usage to adding dozens of megabytes in just a couple of uses that weren't there.

This month I'm using it and 3g Watchdog at the same time to see which is more accurate and ultimately useful to me.
