It's pretty screwed.. The problem with using Rom Manager to flash recovery meant for another phone is partitions vary from phone to phone. You probably overwrote an important partition which is why you are getting Download Mode only. You can try to restore by following the jcase root procedure which flashes an entire rooted firmware but in the past this has caused people's phones to lose their nvram info so even if it fixes phone you won't be able to make calls, texts or data.

There is a new method to unbrick the Elite without losing nvram data. It is supposed to fix phones like yours. I havnlen't tried it but you can look into it if you want

I would be careful with your new phone. Rooting voids the manufacturer warranty. Most likely VM will not catch it this time but if you try to send back another phone that just "stopped working" they may do a closer inspection and charge you for the replacement phones.

I wouldn't feel 100% safe that you won't get charged (Or get disconnected if you don't pay) sending back a phone that has a ROM for another phone on it. When a phone fails for unknown reasons they do often have a technician look at it to try to figure out what went wrong. You might want to try to restore it as much as possible even if you still send it back.
