Notsure Unable to upgrade GT540

I'm using LG OPTIMUS GT540 running Android 1.6. I bought this phone thinking that I can upgrade to Android 2.1 but when I tried the upgrade it is not happening.

I dont wanna try the unnofficial ways and void the warrenty

When I run the update program, it recognizes the phone and says update available. When the click start update it analyses my phone and then starts to download the package. Problem occures here. Download hangs at 0% and says "fail to get information necessary for LG cell phone S/W update." It even suggests me to check the internet connection. I'm posting here with same connection

Wot could be the problem?? one of my friends says LG has withdrawn 2.1 upgrade as of now for bug fixes. Is it true??

Can someone help me??

Advance New Year wishes

Have you installed the drivers? The 2.1 upgrade was withdrawn for a period but, it is back with us now.

Yep I have installed the drivers. S/W update tool recognizes the mobile correctly. I could access the mobile via USB port too. But this problem occures over and over again (

@mayooresan, Many here did this way.... And the truth is, the official software bricks your phone(well, if you are lucky, it won't)... You can browse this forum and see for yourself...

@spacem0rph, you haven't replied yet... You need another ROM, an Australian ROM.. But, which carrier are you in?

You don't need to do that for KDZ Updater...

guys im in US (san diego CA to be exact) i bought this phone via Amazon and it has no warranty so i guess i can do black market stuff here ) I tried LG Mobile Support, downloaded drivers AND LG pc suite as it said, several times actually, but then after everthing's done it started analyzing for a while, then stuck at S/W something, then it says my phone has the latest software installed, then it says no phone connected (???) and the "Start Upgrade" button wont even work. I searched this up several times and encountered some peeps whose phones didnt work either, and some who even bricked their phone (O.O)

so im asking if theres a safe way to do this upgrade in US

if theres no really safe way then does the upgrade worth risking and the bricked phone fixable? i mean the phone goes well and ill survive without the live wallpapers, and i got this from my parents and i wont get another one for at least a couple of years from now so its like treasure to me

i think this thing came from Brazil or Portugal, 'cause the manual in the box says Portugues or something like that on the top.

The KDZ Updater doesn't brick the device if you do it correctly...

oh ok thanks for the info. It think my phone came from Portugual or Brazil cos the box has a manual that says Portugues or something like it on top, so do i need Portuguese or Brazillian ROM? or can i just use normal English KDZ Updater? the guy said recommended to use Baltic ROM does it change the language in the phone or anything? and is there anyway to fix a bricked phone? just in case (the word brick scares me already )

Yap, Baltic ROM is recommened for any unlocked GT540 but you can use any Open ROM also...

Use the KDZ English version, install Msxml Parser given inside... The Baltic has English... Your device shouldn't brick if you do it correctly.. Make sure everything you download is correctly downloaded & during the update panic if you want but don't touch your phone till you see ''====FINISHED===='' in KDZ Updater & Unlock screen after phone restarts.. lolz

[QUOTE]did anybody find the update to 2.1 useful?? i mean contacts, and video recording..[QUOTE]
Well the Live Wallpapers were fun, and it supports HTML 5 so surfing the web would be a better experience. But i think the 2.1 actually slowed down my GT540, but i think ull do fine if u disable unnecessary running apps and free some RAMs

You won't see Apps2SD in the App Drawer... If it was successful, you should see a option 'Apps2SD' in Settings>Applications..

oops, sorry! It won't show... I messed up with 2.2

First check your Phone Memory (Settings>SD Card & Phone Storage & see the Available memory of Internal Phone Storage..) Now, install an app & see the phone storage again... It won't change or change a little...

Cry

The first time i upgraded my GT540 i used the ROM: Baltic V20D released

but since you couldn't choose swedish language i did it once more but this time i used Europe Open 2.1

Everything worked fine until i started the phone..... Now a screen pops up periodically with the text:
"The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

I hope that someone could help me and solve this problem so that i can get swedish language and everything back to normal...

I would appreciate your help.

Uninstall 'em... You don't need an AV as Android doesn't have viruses... & the latest version of Weatherbug crashes, try Googling for an older version...

And, please don't make multi-posts...
