Now, you have everything except a file... A ''bootanimation.zip'' file... Where do you find one? Google! Search for ''bootanimation.zip'' & you'll find lots of them... Either search for default bootanimation.zip(If you need) or find many cool animations & Download them.. Remember one thing that it should be a 320x480 one, so it fits the screen... Move the zip file to your SD...
Now, open Root Explorer... Then Go to /sdcard, find it & Copy it (Long press>Copy)... Press back... Press the ''Mount R/W'' button on top... Now, nevigate to /data/local & paste... You are not done yet... You have to set correct permissions... Long Press on the file>Permissions & Tick 'Read' (All the three) & Write (Only User)... The others should be unticked... Restart your phone & yay! You see the Animation!

Thank you Nirob I sucessfully did it and it worked! but I want to remove completely my stock branded animation that plays before this one, It's an animation I guess from the carrier (a jumping white "t" on a cyan background that looks so ugly) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you noticed the 'bootimages' folder with a sequence of 01 to 15 bootlogo01.rle? and at the end there's a .txt file that contains only the number "15" on it... I wonder if I erase all those out and leave the textfile with say a 0 instead of the 15 that has in it.
Edit: Or maybe this is the "LG" logo, so I better leave it like that Lol :P

You might be right - I lost my boot logos when I first installed the Europe Open + fastboot ROM (thread here) and a search for 'bootimages' in root explorer doesn't find anything :P
Could someone copy that folder to a zip file and post it here? And tell me where the folder is actually located on your phone? I might try restoring it and see what happens...

All I can tell you is that without the folder, the phone still works. If you can copy the folder, zip the contents, and post them here I'll try to modify them and see what happens

Ya, the phone runs without Boot Animation or Splash files.. But, there is a but... Android is very sensitive about it's system file... For Example, Unzip bootanimation.zip, edit the files, re-zip & use it... It won't work... Beside these you have to do sth(which I don't know)... So, I believe, Editing Splash won't be a easy thing to do...

can you tell me if the process for changing the boot animation is the same for all phones? i can't find a correllating thread in the Sprint Hero forums. both this and the thread from the Fascinate forums seem very similar. so if it's the same procedure i will just follow the instructions here and there instead of banging my head against a wall of trying to find a phantom thread.

I might create a new one and try to get my splash screens back
Boot Animation & Splash Screen are two different things... Splash is the LG Animation or Carrier animation & Boot Animation is the ''android'' Animation you see after the Splash... Bootanimation png files are in a single zip file & Splash is seperate ''.rle'' files(I've 24 files)... So, you need to find how to modify Splash Screen files...

Oh of course *slap* maybe had a couple too many beers before I posted that last night
The RLE image format is the native format used by the Utah Raster Toolkit, a collection of programs and C routines for managing raster
Program(s) that open RLE files
Mac OS
Adobe Photoshop CS5
Adobe Photoshop Elements 9
Adobe Illustrator CS5
XnView
BRL-CAD
Windows
Adobe Photoshop CS5
Adobe Photoshop Elements 9
Adobe Illustrator CS5
Graphics Converter Pro
Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3
ACD Systems Canvas 12
Hamrick Software VuePrint
XnView
BRL-CAD
Linux
BRL-CAD
BRL-CAD is open source so I'm downloading it to see if I can get a new splash screen working What exactly is the file structure in the bootimages folder and where is the folder located?
EDIT: I've found these posts about updating the splash screens:
but like everything else I can't seem to get it to work *sigh*. The GT540 doesn't seem have splash1/splash2 partitions like mentioned in the guide, I can get it to recognise splash instead but fastboot fails when it tries to write to it

It also looks like they are flashing static images instead of animations
Everywhere I found this.. Never found how to edit .rle files...

Are you using Root Explorer to do that?! With normal file managers like Astro File Manager, Linda File Manager, you can't do any changes in phone memory...
