2.3.7 issues gt540

This is really starting to annoy me.
Having followed the guide to install 2.3.7 on my GT540, i get to step 13 and find i cannot access fastboot mode.
No matter how long i hold power + camera it will not work.
Has anyone got any idea cos i'm stuck.
