can you use sprint prl for fast3g?

Is it possible to use a sprint prl or one of the merged cricket prls floating around to obtain faster 3g on metro? Some metropcs users at a cricket forum in Detroit adv with a sprint prl they are getting alot of 3g. Also another user said he put his cricket web info instead of his metro info on his metro phone gets fast. 3g but kept all other call info as metro... is this possible?

I dont know but I may be able to try it out.

I will report back when I find out.

my guess though is I wont get service.
Sprint prl now cricket it may be possible but since I dont live anywhere near a cricket market I doubt I would get service.

The forum I found with the merged prl is TEST: Hybrid Cricket/Sprint PRL

If one of the posters kept the web info for cricket couldn't in theory someone use their sprint data settings to obtain fast 3g on a metro phone ?

ok I put the latest sprint prl on my phone, it works, though it only gets 1x speed, more then likely because of the capped 1x roaming agreement with sprint.

ok...so now what if there was a way to let's say add sprint web settings to the phone? ... would that not make it grab sprint's 3g since your on a sprint prl ?

If I knew how to get into the web settings I can test it, but I'm new to altering stuff like that.

Okay I noticed something slightly interesting and I need to test it more...

but I dialed ##7764726690 to get into service mode and entered my spc code. Under browser settings I deleted the proxy.metropcs.net.

I noticed slightly higher speeds on 3g with 1 bar. Instead of getting 179 kbps or 188 kbps I was getting 200 kbps and 210 kbps. I am going to test it on 4 bars. I wonder if the proxy slows the download speeds slightly. Also noticed the upload speeds have become worse than dialup at 10 kbps...

anyone else willing to try it?

The problem with trying to connect to sprint is you need what amounts to a user name and password to connect

If we put a sprint prl on our phones will we be able to make calls and send text messages? I would like to try this because metropcs does not offer 3g in south florida...

Unless I'm mistaken there are Apps to force 3g on, have you tried it while using the sprint prl? As far as I know it will either work or it will put you in a mode resembling airplane mode.

I am wondering if metro is making roaming 3g agreements with companies like sprint because of their new rhapsody plan once they eliminate cdma 1x and 3g...if so maybe a new sprint prl with more 3g towers and forced 3g should show .. just a theory because metro would hopefully wana keep their customers happy ... I am gonna update to a sprint prl tonight n try to use sprint data settings from a sprint plan I have. I wish I knew how to merge metros prl with sprints n force it to use evdo through sprint towers only so my regular call covg wouldn't be spotty

The PRLs that start with 60 are for EV-DO phones. Are those PRLs phone specific or do they work for all phones that have 3g?

It did not work. If i made a call it would say "we could not validate your account" and the data wouldn't work. I flashed 3020.prl back on my phone and now the data won't work...

That's what I was afraid of! I did not want to D/L a PRL from a different carrier! It would be great if we could somehow "hack" the PRL so we all can get 3G speeds!

hmm.. i wonder if when it tried to connect to a tower it overwrote your data settings..

which prl did you use? i will try tonight and do it and see how i can revert the settings..

you can also go into the settings of the phone and try reverting the proxy back to proxy.metropcs.net and port 3218 to see if you get your data back. You can download Anycut and make a shortcut for activity and look for proxy settings see if that will do it for you. You might have to find the apk off google and put it on the phone when you hook it through usb or a sdcard reader if you cant access data right now.

You have done fairly well, but I think you need to follow this guide.

You just follow the section for enabling web.
also you dont need to dial anything to get it into a setting.

when you connect your lg phone with debugging enabled it is ready to go get the port # if you dont have it lgnpst will tell you the port.

No putting the prl from another carrier does not work, unless your part of that carrier, such as boost mobile and virgin using sprint prl.

they are all sprint running on sprint towers so they will be compatible.
metropcs is not part of another company so they will not have compatible prls.

Roaming agreement, sprint phones though not boost mobile or virgin can roam on verizon and if you live in an area with more verizon towers you should be able to connect to them.

well, for me it didn't not work, used a sprint prl n provisioned a la the eris link earlier in this thread, n had service but no 3g icon.
unfortunately my fon crashed so i LGNPST'd back to stock n didn't get around to reprovisioning or whatever using prl3026 in place of sprint prl

Hello, wuite monkeying around. If the new 4g towers are up and running in your area, just dial *228 and set the roaming option up. That will install the NEW 3026PRL for you.
