Yes the phone got discontinued meaning we wont get any update 2.3 or 4.0.... And even if the phone wasnt discontinued we would only get 2.3 if for some crazy reason we had got 4.0 it'll be crappy and watered down, kinda like how ps3 games come out on the wii.

I don't know what they are able to do as of now, but the Cyanogen development team is very capable and as soon as they release CM9 bob PG and reppard will all compile a rom I am sure.

I dont think the optimus would be able to support ICS anyway.

For argument sake i'll say we get 2.3 DOWN THE LINE but ICS no, the optimus has had a good run and is a very good phone but its done. Want ICS get a Nexus.

If you really want to see how ICS would look on the optimus then download the launcher first. It looked good to me. But I'm pretty sure no one is going to go really quickly with making an ICS rom on the optimus, I give it more than 6 months before anyone tries to pull a custom rom that looks like it on any type of phone. But for right now I must wait until the Nexus comes out, from what I heard, that phone is truly the future of Android.

Cyanogen developers will roll out CM9 shortly after Google releases source code. As soon as that happens the optimus developers will be able to start to compile CM9 roms.

It's like this. If and i mean IF you get an ics Rom for this phone,I can promise you it will have bugs. And i mean lots of bugs. It will not be a Rom that you would use as a daily driver. The best chance of an ics Rom is a port atm...and unless pg,bobz or reppard actually said they are gonna give you ics,don't hold your breath. It's not an easy task to compile source and get it working on a phone its not meant for. Im no dev,persay,but i know enough that ics not being released for this phone will have a bunch of problems. I'm using my HTC EVO on metro. The EVO has easily some of the best developers out there and our ics is still very much a wip..and if a phone as widely used and as popular as the EVO with the specs it has still doesn't have a stable ics Rom ,I highly doubt your OG optimus m is going to..I could be wrong. But i doubt it.

Thats exactly the problems im having on my razr, ics is smooth running but no blue tooth and i mean dont touch the button boot loops, gallery fc alot front camera fc alot, my gmail keeps getting email from the android team saying how they reconize my new gnex and they wanna teach me how to use it.
Just pointing out some problems with porting roms from different phones.
But all in all i cant wait for the 4.0 ota from moto.
cm9 is also highly anticapated.
