Ok, boredom has prevaled, and just to do it im gunna use the update tool. After updating will the custom recovery still be in place? Or will button combo just factory reset my phone? My phone has no fc issues or anyother known problem, just doing it for the heck of it, ill post if after update the custom recivery is still in place. Thats some good intel, huh:-)

The custom recovery will be gone. However, by following the directions in the 2.2.2 thread you will be able to root it. Once that is done you will have the GNM recovery. You can also now use ROM Manager and Clock Work Mod. That's what I have chosen to use, personally.

When you do use gingerbreak. IT works. Once I did that everything was fine. I also put Reppards custom from on and it is great. Everything works, NO issues. Now my Optimus fly. Wow. Welcome to the new and improved Opt M. Oh yeah if you wanna by a new one I hear they have now put Gingerbread 2.3.4 on them, LG has NO plans for an update.
Okay, I'm afraid this made like no sense at all...no offense, but you should sometimes read more about the topic before posting. Anyways, I found a root method for 2.2.2 and mikekelso421 made an easier toolkit to do so. Other's on this forum have even compiled the new kernel to be used with other roms. I hope that helps clarify. ...You no longer need to downgrade to 2.2.1 to root.
thanks for letting us all know. However, I haven't had any problems with freezing or rebooting. Are there other issues that this resolves? (there are certainly issues it COULD resolve, but....)

I'm not doubting LG would release anything else just yet, hell no one expected the update at the beginning of December. 2.3 isn't too far out of question, though, even if they wouldn't release one, I would feel indifferent. I'm just saying, as far as I've seen with Androids, anything is possible. Haha. Many were skeptical that the 2.2.2 update would ever be rooted...now take a look at your phone.
From the original post: I see now that I should have put Freezing/Reboot in the title. This was meant to inform frustrated Optimus owners. It was not meant to be a "pissing match" over the pros and cons of rooting or ROM flashing. Some of those owners would be content just to have a stable, stock phone.
Any questions or concerns about rooting PLEASE put in the All Things Root sub-forum.
Thank you.

Use this method but instead of 2.2.1 firmware find the 2.2.2 and use it instead
For Downgrading, or putting Stock rom on

I have OS 2.2.1 but my "Baseband Version" says I have MS690Zv4.. do i need to update? i have no problems with my phone but want to Root it using Gingerbreak, should i update to version 2.2.2 which is Zv7? not sure how this works. I keep seeing people saying they have Zv6 or Zv7 but also have OS 2.2.2 or 2.2.1
I just want to be sure i dont brick my phone which I dont think i can do just by applying the root exploit, but i dont want to screw up my phone if Gingerbreak wont work with Zv4.
OK so it seems Zv4 is stock 2.2.1, and without hacking it, 2.2.2 isnt available for Zv4 optimus phones? is it ok to apply Gingerbreak to a zv4 2.2.1? I love my phone. i have no problems with it whatsoever..everything works perfectly and pretty fast too with the stock ROM. but i just want to make some minor changes like the startup sound.. startup screen etc without flashing a hacked ROM or Kernel etc..

You do not need to upgrade to root. Since your on 2.2.1 u will need to use gingerbreak to root. 2.2.2 uses a different root method.
