Default Installing almost any app eats 80-90 megs memory and causes freezing..

Almost any new app I install seems to eat up about 80-90 megs of available memory, dropping it from say an average of 265 to 180-160, and then the phone starts freezing up and responding slowly. I had the phone swapped out once, and thought I had isolated the problem app to the ESPN one, but today I was testing some ringtone apps on my phone before loading them onto my wifes new phone(not an optimus), and it did it with 2 separate apps.

Anybody ever have this problem or hear of it? I have been thru the hard reset stuff and all and that is when they swapped the phone (gave me a refurb, no battery or memory card). Still doing it.

Thanks.

I have about seventy-five apps om my Opti and of all the things I do to control the size usage, the one thing that seems to fix everything is to uninstall the ginormous updates to Google Maps. Unless it tells me I’m overloaded, I pay no attention to file sizes and such. This phone has pathetic capacity for app storage and everything possible has to be moved to SD.

When you get rid of the updates to google maps, does it affect the apk at all?

Havenít the foggiest, never bothered to look. All I know is the app seems to run equally well with no updates, and uses a helluva lot less space.

I've never seen this problem, but it could be that it's improperly reporting your amount of space with 0 apps. My Optimus S only has around 150 MB when it's empty. Try installing 2 apps and see if they eat up 180MB of memory, or just 91. The freezing isn't normal, but it could just be adjusting to some other issue- it took me a few days before my phone worked well when I rooted and installed a new rom.
