MicroSD card recommendation?

Hey all,
Just got the Optimus Slider and want to get a bigger microSD card than the 2 gig one it comes with.

Would you guys recommend going with a 16 gig or would 32 gig be better. I plan on storing apps on the card, as well as pictures and videos.

Reading the manual for the Slider, it says make sure to use a recommended microSD card for the phone, but they fail to tell you what a recommended card would be.

Specifically, is buying a Class 10 card a waste, or can this card support Class 10. If not Class 10, what class does it support? Also, can it support a UHS-1 card?

Basically, I want to know what is the best specs this phone will suport.

Hey m4p, just noticed your post here and thought I'd chime-in a bit...

Looks like gsmarea says you can install up to a 32GB card (pretty standard limit):

I'd probably avoid a Class 10 card since they are made for high speed/capacity transfers for things like HD video cameras. I tried using a Class 10 on my Droid X and had a myriad of issues. Class 4 or 6 should be plenty speedy for this phone, IMO.

Thanks very much for the reply, Scary Alien. I got a 32gb Sandisk card for Christmas and it is a Class 10. So far I haven't experienced issues but I did just installed it yesterday. What kind of issues did you have?

Well, when I took pictures with the camera, the pictures were not always there afterwards (very disconcerting to say the least

)).

Then, there were times that I'd try to browse the SD card for files and it wouldn't be mounted and I'd have to reboot get it back...very odd.

The DX is an older device by today's standards, so maybe your Slider will be able to handle it?

How do I configure it so when I take a picture, it's stored on the SD card? I just took a picture, and when I clicked on it and Details, it said "location unknown". Then I went into the Gallery, and it wasn't there. I know the answer must be simple, but I just can't figure it out.

Also, just wanted to mention that my phone is rooted if that makes a difference.

I thought that camera pics were always stored in the /sdcard/DCIM/Camera folder structure?

That's where mine have always gone on my devices (rooted or not).

You might be seeing one of the anomalies of the Class 10 card

...

You know what? You're right, the pictures are stored in the DCIM folder. I thought, like my old phone that is 6 years old, lol, that you had to choose where to store pictures :-X

Doesnt matter what size SD card you get cause this crap phone, which I still own and use, only has 256MB internal memory with only 213MB of free space to use. Then add in Google Play Store, Google Maps, Google Play Services, Lookout and Facebook, you are already down to about 160MB left, and thats moving the apps to the SD card. If I had any clue this thing had this little internal storage, I NEVER woulda bought it.

Yeah, having / supporting more memory in newer Android devices should be a given nowadays

. No excuse given how inexpensive memory is...

In Nov. 2009 and through mid 2010 when 2.1 was (finally!) released for the HTC Droid Eris, we didn't have much more than 120MB and that was before adding any other apps

, nevermind how large the aforementioned files are nowadays.

I suspect that some of this is creating a range of devices (low, mid, high-end) with varying specs to sell at different price-points (that don't necessarily cost that much more to produce). Marketing.

I love the phone, but I was definitely shocked how putrid the internet memory storage was.

The only way around it is root the phone and move ALL the apps to the SD card..apps such as Google Maps, Facebook etc

I've been using Link2SD to move all apps to the SD card, except system apps, although with Link2SD I believe you can move the system apps (not sure it's a good idea or not).

I didn't realize this phone only had 256mb of ram. Very disappointing!
