Yes it does wear down the edges of the phone this is one of the main reasons went out and purchased an Otterbox.

You still liking the Fishbone, I like the looks of it. How easy is it to remove and how is the button access?

I just started using a simple screen protector and a rubberized body glove. Can't decide how I like it. The phone is definitely sexier without those things. I have a holster, too, which kind of makes the other things redundant. Ah, experimentation.

I just ordered the otterbox as I had great luck with them when I ran a blackberry (which blackberry's suck compared to the Android platforms). My only gripe is they don't have a defender model. Also ordered a tall nite ize pouch to put it in when pockets arent an option. Will have to see how well that platform works encasing the LG Optimus with an otterbox.

If anyone needs a rugged case, you cant go wrong. Working on an ambulance, Ive had quite a few phone drops and mishaps and never once did the otterbox fail to protect my phone. Highly endorsed.

I like the Otterbox but it looks like it covers up the USB port. Is that true, and do you have to remove the Otterbox to access the USB port?

There's a silicone flap that covers it so no dirt can get inside. Look at the images I found at Amazon (and check out that price, too!).

Thanks for posting this thread/reply.
What is the best case for the Optimus V with an extended battery.
Would rather not have to remove the phone from the case to use it!

Man, that Otterbox looks nice. The Amazon photo array answers most of the questions I had about this case. Good stuff. Notice how the Optimus in the photo has bubbles on the screen? Obviously a screen protector at work. I've had one on for the past week and I'm not crazy about it. Smudges badly and those bubbles drive me nuts.

I have the Body Glove case, and I still like it, especially the clip/kickstand.

The rubberized covering has started to peel away from the hard shell. I checked the Body Glove website -- the product has a 1-yr warranty. They have a great warranty resolution process. You simply take photos of the case issue and attach in an email to them along with a copy of your receipt. In two days I received a reply that a new case was on its way to me. Great customer service!

Has anyone else experienced the rubber peeling on their Body Glove case?

Happy

After finding that the LG Optimus S/V were kinda harder to hold on to...I began my quest to find a case to suit my needs.

My initial interest was towards to Otterbox case, mainly because I had heard so many good things about them. However, I wanted to avoid bulk...and the lint-collecting silicone...so, it became less attractive. Looked at the Fishbone case...while it appeared less bulky, there was still the silicone issue. Same pretty much with the Body Glove case...mostly the bulk.

Then I started looking at the TPU cases becoming more available. While many gave overall positive reviews of these types of cases, there appeared to be some fitment issues involving the charging port.

After a lot of research of the various TPU cases available...I found the perfect TPU case, and thought I would share it here.

Since I am a new user, I am, unfortunately, unable to provide a direct link or a photo.

The TPU case I settled on, and am extremely happy with, is the the Fosmon TPU case for the LG Optimus S. It is the only TPU case they make for the Optimus S. The case is clear with a concentric circles design on the back.

Case went on easily enough and provides a nice snug fit. The Power, Volume, Camera/Camcorder buttons are all covered, but are easy to activate, through the TPU material. The openings for the Headphones jack, SD Card access and, perhaps most importantly, the Charging/USB port are generous enough to offer excellent access without modification. The case itself adds little to the overall profile of the Optimus itself, making for a comfortable feeling in the hand. The case will not slide across a car seat or dash. Because the overall profile of the phone is changed very little, it would likely fit into a holster or pouch type case for added protection and/or carry convenience.

While it would be nice if the cases came in additional colors, honestly, the clear looks quite nice and does not detract from the Optimus' appearance.

I purchased my case through Amazon.com from one of their partners, SF/Planet for $6.99 plus an additional $2.98 for shipping through UPS Mail Innovations. From order placement to delivery, it took 7 days total...shipping from MN to WA.

I do not blindly give positive reviews or recommendations unless I am really impressed with a product...I would have absolutely no qualms recommending the Fosmon TPU Case for the LG Optimus S/V to anyone looking for a nice, inexpensive TPU case that gets the job done, and does it well.

I've had the Body Glove case for 6 weeks now and really love it. When I first got it in the mail I had buyers remorse because everything looked so bulky once assembled. But I really value the fact that it's rugged and that I don't have to ever really worry about it slipping out of my hands due to the size and texture of the case. Also if I ever do drop it I'm confident nothing too bad will happen. Pair the Body Glove case with a $1-$2 screen protector from eBay and you're set.

That said, I usually keep the belt clip/stand off because it just makes it far too bulky to slip into a pants pocket, and I don't feel confident enough to keep it on my belt all day every day. But the button that the belt clip goes on pairs great with the Pro.Fit International WM-36EXP suction car mount for the GPS features.

I haven't experienced peeling, but it's only been about 6 weeks. Also I usually keep it in my pocket so it doesn't experience much friction. Good to know that their resolution process is so good though.

Also for the person asking if the Body Glove case has chipped at the phone, it hasn't for me at all so far and I don't really see how it could. It fits very snugly but doesn't chafe at the phone at all in my experience. Plus there's really never a need to take it out of the case since all the ports are available, so I don't see a reason to constantly transition it in and out. The only time I've taken it out was to apply a screen protector to it, and it's been inside ever since.

Yes. I bought one for my Intercept (my kids use it) and it's doing exactly how you describe. I just chalked it up to my kids always putting the phone in the front pocket of their jeans. It's been well over a year since I bought it, and I don't even remember where I bought it from lol. The receipt is around here..... somewhere hehe.

I have had my Otterbox Commuter for 6 month nos and absolutely love it! The lint issue is gone after a few days of use. I have large hands to the little added bulk makes the phone feel substantial in my grip. I have dropped the phone more times than I care to mention and the only problem I have encountered was the plastic Otterbox backing got a little scratched (I work out on pavement all day). Even the included screen protector is still in tact and not peeling, lifting or scratching! The Otterbox may not be inexpensive, but it's level of protection has been priceless!

I highly recommend it!

I haven't experienced any chafing of the actual phone from the Body Glove case. It's a snug fit, nothing rattling around to scratch the phone.

I've had to take the case off a few times to get the battery out to reset the phone, and it's popped apart a couple times when the phone has fallen off the bed or nightstand when I try to snooze the alarm. ha.

I haven't had any lint issues from the case, and it's always in my purse, in a jacket pocket, or around my fuzzy cats.

I've always been a fan of Body Glove products, but I have one negative mark against this case. I've only dropped my phone (with case of course) three times. Twice on concrete, once on the carpeted floor in my office. The only time the case popped off (with the battery and cover) was on the damn CARPET. After that drop, the clip on the lower left hand corner broke and does not snap the coin-slot all the way.

All the other clips work just fine. But not when I have the phone in the belt clip, my phone will just slip clean out the front half of the case and drop RANDOMLY. Pisses me off, but no major damage to the device so far.

I've never had a problem with my cheap TPU skin (actually skins; had one on my Blackberry previously) from ebay and they come in tons of colors and patterns: optimus s tpu | eBay

My current one is nearly 8 months old and is still good as new. I had the one on my BB for a year and half, also good as new.

Ok, I just received the Body Glove case with the kickstand. I went with this case because I wear my phone on my belt, already have a screen protector on there anyways so I wasn't worried about the screen facing out, also because I only spent $99 on the phone, so I wasn't looking to spend $25-$35 on the Otterbox case for such a cheap phone. After receiving the case, here are the pro's and cons about it in my opinion so far.

Pros
-It definitely is a perfect fit for the Optimus V, plus it seems like it would be easy to remove if necessary, just simply stick a coin in the available slot and twist.
-It's not really a hard plastic, it almost feels like foam on the outside, so it should absorb shock pretty well.
-It has a belt clip, which I would use a lot, but you can also take the belt clip off and replace it with a piece that makes the back flat if you like to keep it in your pocket.
-The belt clip rotates, so you can have the phone sideways when you sit down, such as in the car, which is great since I was using a case that was always vertical beforehand, and it would jab my side every time I was driving. It was the only cheap case I could find without magnets in it, and I've heard this and that about magnets messing up these types of phones.
-The kick stand it pretty cool, I'm going to use the kickstand like I would a docking station, also will be great if you want to watch Youtube videos or Netflix on it.
-It's not really bulky at all, I don't know why anybody would say it was bulky, it's actually quite thinner than I was expecting, lol, I actually WANTED it to be a little more bulky, but I'll throw it in as a pro since most people would like the fact that it's not.
-Much easier to clip on and remove the phone while on your belt than a leather case.

Cons
-It kind of looks a little cheapy, especially around the edges, it just looks a little cheapy in my opinion.
-It feels almost like your going to break the belt clip when you want to pull out the kickstand, I get scared every time that I'm going to snap something off.
-I was kind of hoping it would stick out a little more on the side of the screen so leave more space between the screen and whatever it was on face down, it's really a very small gap, so if it was dropped face down and there was a tint little pebble under it, it would probably hit the screen.
-It does stick out kind of far on the belt, whereas the leather cases would be quite a bit closer to your body.
-They put the release tab for the belt clip right where I want to put my finger every time to snap it in. You get used to it though and figure out a different place for your finger to go.

Those are really all I have right now, I will update it if I come up with anything else, but as you can see, in my opinion there are more pros than cons, the big one is that although it looks a little cheapy, it is cheap, and it's really all I want for a cheap phone. If this phone cost me $200-$300, I probably would have went with the Otterbox, it does look like a nicer case, if it had a belt clip on it, it really might have made me think about it, but in the end, for the price, I'm happy with the Body Glove case.

If you keep your phone in your pocket and money is not an issue, you may like the Otterbox better, from pictures and what I've read about it, it does seem like a really nice case. If money was no option for me and I wanted to use a separate belt clip, I would have went with the Otterbox, but since it's such a cheap phone already, and I'd much rather use the belt clip on the case itself, this was the choice for me.

I don't know if I'm not supposed to do this, if so I apologize, but I just wanted to say that I have the Body Glove case with the kickstand in the classifieds for $15 shipped priority, it was used for just over a week, still like new with original packaging. I ended up getting a different phone, so I have no use for it now, but I do miss the case, I really do, it was a nice case.

i love my Otterbox commuter. it's a bit annoying to have to remove it just to get to the SD card, but i figure i only have to do that once in a blue moon. there IS an opening in the gel part of the case (you have to remove the plastic part to get to it) but it doesn't line up with the card slot. but it's not a big deal, really.

My wife and I have had the Body Glove case on our phone for a while now and still no problems other than what I said before (see post 145 in this thread). Just wanted to comment on the Otterbox case. I saw one on sale and bought it a couple of months ago to try out and keep as a spare. I like the looks and it makes the phone slimmer than the body glove case but it just feels too slick on the back and I feel like I would drop the phone. The body glove grips my hand and won't move. Oh, and still no problems with the Skinomi screen protector. My daughter and her husband also use them and I put one on my new Kindle Fire. Just my two cents.

I just bought the Otterbox Commuter case and it seems to be very well made. It puts together easily.

However, when I put it in my old universal holster, it wouldn't fit. It was slightly too wide.

Do any of you use holsters or pouches with a belt clip with this phone? Which ones do you use? Do most people just stick this thing in their jeans pocket?

Thanks!

I got an Otterbox for X-Mas, and I love it! My only complaint is the rubbery part is a magnet for lint (my coat pocket and jeans pocket). Otherwise I love it and wouldn't part with it.

Definitely 10 times better than the Body Glove.

I've had my OV in an Otterbox Commuter for over eight months and cant imagine a better case for this phone. With the resiliency of the silicone, the bump protection of the outer hard shell, the excellent screen protector, and the port/button covers keeping out all that moisture and dirt, it would be hard to come up with a more protective design.

I actually did pick up a new BodyGlove cover for the OV (over the holidays when Radio Shack had 'em on sale for $7), but after comparing it to the Otterbox and thinking it over, I threw the BodyGlove in a drawer and left the OV in the Commuter case.

As Broncowolf implied above, the Commuter case makes the OV just slightly too bulky to fit in most belt clip holster type cases. I have found however that, if the case is one of those that has the elastic side (or end) panels it will probably work just fine after a few days of use. If the phone can just barely be inserted into the holster (meaning that you almost have to force it into the holster), after a few days of pulling the phone in and out, the elastic will relax enough that the phone ends up fitting just fine.

The first case I had that worked this way was a Case Logic brand (can't remember the model #) that I had paid about 25 bucks for. It was a horizontal leather (fake) holster with a belt clip and a big magnetic flap closure. The Case Logic holster worked great until about two months ago when I left it in the den one night and the dog figured it would make a good chew toy. Fortunately, the phone wasn't in it, so the dog got to go on living.

I replaced the holster with a cheap one that I found, on the clearance rack at the local Walmart, for six bucks. It's a Wireless Genius brand (made in China, of course) and is the same horizontal type design with belt clip, magnetic flap closure, suede lining, and elastic end panels just like the more expensive Case Logic had been. After being a real tight fit for the first week or so, the OV in the Commuter case now fits it quite well.

From the UPC barcode on the package, I found this link to the Wireless Genius case on Amazon for $8 with free shipping.

Amazon.com: Wireless Genius Large Universal Horizontal Case with Belt Clip - Black: Electronics

Highly recommended.

I have the plastic swivel holster/belt clip made for the Samsung M900 that I use with the Otterbox. It fits ok out of the box but after a little trimming on the top corner, it fits very well. I have not had any issue with the phone popping out accidentally. You can also mount the phone with the screen facing in or out on the holster.

Here's my phone in the Otterbox mounted in the clip

Just got mine today. $7 at Amazon and the shipping was almost as much, $5.

Soft rubber glove fits on the phone and the the hard plastic fishbone (red) fits snugly on it to hold it. The glove has raised rubber 'buttons' over the phone's buttons and works well. The charger plugs in with no problem. The only problem is no hole for the SD card and I'm expecting a new 8 gig anyday. Its really no problem to take the cover off and put it back on though. The only thing that concerns me is heat. Mine gets warm when overclocking and I don't know how this rubber glove will affect that.

Just wanting to clarify... the Ov with the Otterbox on it fits snug into the Wireless Genius Case? If so, this is exactly what I've been searching for!

Yes. The OV, in the Otterbox Commuter case, is a snug fit in this Wireless Genius holster. It was REAL snug when the holster was brand new, but after a few days of use, the elastic end panels stretch and relax a bit so that it becomes very usable.

I think you can see, in the attached pic, the slight bulging of the elastic panels on each end of the holster with the phone in the holster. It is snug, but the magnetic flap closes securly with a satisfying snapping sound.

The back of the holster features a leather covered belt clip that fits nicely on even a 1-3/4" wide leather belt.

No, the belt clip does not come off. It's permanently attached to the back. Also, there are no belt "loops". Just the clip.

Thanks. I found that case logic case for about $20 at Target. I had a gift card for Target anyway, so it worked out well. It fits perfectly.

I have a fishbone case and it works amazing. On amazon it was only $10. it's a silicone case with a hard fishbone looking case over it. Kinda like the otterbox, it just has a design to it and you can choose from 3 colors.

Sorry it took so long, but 7 months later I still like my fishbone case. I've dropped it a number of times, and had no problems. Only once the phone actually shut off, other times it's seemed to absorb the shock of falling onto tile or pavement quite well. Only now that my battery life is starting to fade somewhat the case size is stopping me from buying a larger capacity battery. Instead I just ordered 3 regular size batteries, and wall charger from a hong Kong ebay supplier for a total of $ 12. We'll see if these cheapy batteries are any good shortly.

I wish my leather covered belt case was as durable. The closing magnet has pulled it's way through the vinyl inside trim.

I bought that same batteries and charger pack from ebay. They're ok but don't last long at all after a few charge/discharge cycles. the charger also takes forever to charge the batteries.

Thanks. At least now I'll know not to expect much. I guess it's just a reminder that we get what we pay for.

Wanted to make a followup post about the Body Glove case. After months of use, while it has features I really like, I can't recommend it. The rubberized coating peels off far too easily. I'm on my second case because the first was replaced under warranty for the peeling issue. The second case has peeled the same way, and once it starts peeling, it will all gradually come off. It looks really ratty now with all four corners of rubber pulled away from the case.

I know this is in part to putting it in a pocket of my bag, but what good is a phone case that falls apart after repeatedly stowing it?

I still love the kickstand, though!

I have had my Otterbox since March 30, 2011 and it is still holding up great. I even still have the original screen protector that comes with the case on the phone! I highly recommend the Otterbox case!

Just to add some more of my thoughts to this topic - my wife and I both had the Body Glove case that snapped together and we used them without the belt clip. Both of them suffered from the "skin" peeling off so we will use superglue when needed and put it back together. They have lost a lot of their softness because of this use of glue everywhere. They are bulkier than the Otterbox commuter case but they have a much better grip.
I gave my Body Glove case to my daughter since she had lost hers. She left her phone on the car and drove off and the phone bounced on the highway - she turned around immediately and found the phone but the case had come apart and she didn't find it but the phone was protected during the fall and still worked!
I had a spare Otterbox case so I am using it. No lint problems for me but the back sure is slick and I keep fearing I will drop it. I have looked around the web but it does not appear the Body Glove is available anymore for this phone (two piece that snaps together).

Try searching for the Sprint version of the Body Glove (LG Optimus S... it will fit the V). You might find some on Amazon or eBay.

Doesn't even look like the Body Glove web site itself is carrying them anymore.

Petrah: Thanks but I have looked in those places and unfortunately can't find one. I originally bought the one I had on Amazon and it was for the Optimus S. All you can find there now is the one piece (back). All I saw on ebay was the one piece style selling for a lot more than on Amazon. I could have missed something on ebay, though.
