Some folks have been asking about cases...here are my favs so far, feel free to add yours.
Rubberized - Body Glove - BG makes a nice form-fitting case for the Optimus S (that should work for the V) that has cutouts for all the important ports. The case also comes (most of the time) with a belt clip that doubles as a kickstand, allowing the owner to set the phone at an angle, either horizontally or vertically...like the Evo advertises. The clip attaches to a button that can also be used with a conventional belt clip, or a car mount that accepts that button. I like this option as it means I can mount the phone on a belt or in my car without having to take it out of the case. The case can sell for up to $30 at Sprint or in the mall, as low as $15 shipped on eBay. A few Radio Shack stores have them for $20. There is also a one-piece version of this case with no button on the back, or kickstand, so be sure you order the version you wish. The one-piece version without the button/kickstand is known as the Entrepreneur series. The case has an opening on the back for both the camera lens and the speaker hole.
Cell Guru has a large selection of cases for the S/V, and will give you an idea of what's available in one place.
Leather - PDAir.com has some nice Monaco series cases for the Optimus One (again the same phone) available in a book style or in a book or flip Style. The Book and Flip cases have an optional button provided for a belt clip or compatible car mount-the only leather cases I've seen that do. These cases are originally made for the Optimus One P500, the European version of the Optimus. The cases have a hole for the camera, but not for the adjoining speaker hole. PDAir also sells on eBay.
I'm going to pick up a Body Glove with the button/belt clip. I can't find a car mount that would accept that button. Do you know of any?
There are a couple of ways...if you have a flat surface that's free, you can use buttons that have adhesive backs that accept a belt clip button. They used to be commonly available in stores, but now usually have to be found on eBay or online as part of a kit. One example is the Arkon CM219, a belt kit that includes a small mounting plate that sticks anywhere you want to mount the phone via a button. If you search eBay or the Web on "universal belt clip" "or universal belt clip car" you'll see them come up. Here's an example:
If you want to mount the phone on top of the dash, or on the windshield, Pro.Fit International makes a couple of mounts. The windshield mount is known as the WM-36EXP WindowMate Express, which includes a standard suction mount with a flexible arm and a holder that accepts the button.
If you want an adhesive mount for the dash, you can order the Pro.Fit Loboy LB-600 Mount, which is a short universal dash mount, combined with the EM-1224 Holder, which is the button adapter used as part of the WM-36EXP. I'd imagine this same setup could also be used with a bean bag mount for the dash.
Pro.Fit International also makes custom car mounts for dozens of vehicles that may be able to be combined with the EM-1224 as well.
There is also a unit that allows mounting elsewhere in the car, like the console, known as the UL-747 Ultimount. They even make a "marine version" for a boat.

I'm tired as hell cuz since I woke up I've been trying to figure out if and how I was going to get a case for this thing (my work is dirty). Keep forgetting Sprint has had the exact same phone for a minute now.
I just got the Body Glove case for the Optimus S. Fits like a charm, and holes in the right places. And the button mount does work with the Pro.Fit EM-1224...exactly as hoped. The little kickstand in the belt clip for the BG case is a clever idea as well.
Do you guys think this case wont break when dropped? I have had 3 snap on plastic cases for my last phone and whenever I would drop it the clips would snap off. Does anyone make a flexible plastic case for this phone, they seem to do a better job.

These are pretty heavy duty from what I can see, but I've never used a BG case before now. Sprint sells a plastic Body Glove case for the Optimus S that will work as well, and there are lots of cases for the Optimus S around that will also work on the V. Check eBay or the store link above.
I bought the 2 piece with belt clip/kick stand body glove case and it is durable and has a nice feel, but it is also Big, it makes my tiny optimus V larger than my old LG rumor touch. I do like it, but now I am having problems finding a leather case that I can put the phone in, the cases I have for the rumor touch dont fit now and the material on the BG case is non slip so is hard to slide into a fitted case, so not sure if I am going to buy another case or not, to me a case to hold the phone is as important as protecting the outside of the phone to keep dust dirt etc from getting into the phone. Also remember the other BG case(Entrepreneur) is a one piece for back only. The photos above of the BG cases are the same case, it comes with the belt clip hold plugged and you push out the center thing when you mount a clip. the way they make these the 2 piece with belt clip has about a 1/4 inch gap under phone with felt, thats what makes the case so big to support the belt clip mount.

The only decent leather cases I can find (so far) are the ones from PDAir mentioned in the original post. I'd get one, but I want the flap to fall down rather than up so I can leave the phone in the case when it's mounted to a button mount in the car. I got used to that setup with a Treo I've had for years and can't give it up...the BG is the next best thing...at least I found a button mount for the windshield and/or dash that works with that.
Sprint sells a lower profile Body Glove case for the Optimus S some people are using...it has a grippy back but isn't as thick.
It seems that cases for the other optimus models won't fit the optimus V. Has anyone else found this? A kiosk at the mall sells the same cases as on ebay. The salesman tried 3 different optimus cases and only the silicone/jel ones fit because they stretched (obviously). Can anyone confirm that a case for the optimus S will fit the optimus V?

Almost all the Optimus S cases fit the V. I have an Optimus S Body Glove case on my V that fits just fine. There are some Optimus models with slightly different button layouts where there can be a problem, but if you stick with S cases, you should be in good shape. I also applied a screen protector from an S that fit fine earlier tonight.
I just got the dark gray Body Glove case. It fits -- no pun intended -- like a glove. Which is great, I guess, but the problem is, it's nearly impossible to get it off again! It's a problem because I was hoping to be able to switch back and forth between having a flat back, and having the button+clip attached. That's not practical if I need a screwdriver to pry off the case every time.
I think I might get one of those simple "universal" vertical pouch cases with a clip. In wintertime, I just keep my phone in a silicone case in jacket pocket, and I don't need a clip or anything... but come summer, I'll want to hang it in my shorts pocket or outside my jeans.

The BG case is designed to have a coin placed in the plastic slot at the bottom left corner of the phone...a quarter works best. Once you get used to that, it's pretty easy to remove quickly.

Ah... that does help.
I'm still thinking of picking up one of these though:
I got a $6 case from Dollar General last night and I love it. It holds the phone horizontally in a "leather" case with a clip for my belt. It seems pretty darn durable for the price. I prefer holsters but can't find one anywhere. I hope Seidio will make a holster for this phone soon.

There are holster cases online listed for the LG Vortex that should also work for the Optimus V:
For those waiting for the Otterbox case, it has been released as of today. The price is $34.95. You can use coupon code PSPNEagles04 to get 20% off plus free shipping, total $27.96.
Tempted to get the Otterbox, but the body glove with clip is working very well. Bulky but feels protective from the bulk and I like the bumpy, grippy surface.
The Body Glove case has a hard plastic coin slot in the corner which makes it quick to remove without damage elsewhere.
Thanks. But you have the two-piece with clip. I keep my phone in my pocket, so wouldn't want the clip model, but rather would be looking at the Body Glove one-piece "Entrepeneur" model, which would have different removal characteristics (how and how easy).
Anyone else have experience with a slim Optimus hard case that's easy to put on and take off?

The Entrepreneur is slimmer than the normal case from the reports I've seen. The normal BG case comes with a button that can be replaced with a smooth back insert as well. As a further FYI, some Radio Shack have the Optimus S Entrepreneur series as a stock item.
"Please note that this is a (1-piece) design that more or less cradles your phone. So with this design, none of the front is covered on your phone ...
I think I'm going back to using the clear plastic case that is a 2-piece design that snaps together, so it protects more of the phone"
Having said that, I can't tell if it's hard to remove or not. But the two Customer reviews weren't enthusiastic about the missing protection due to it's being one piece (which can be seen in a customer pic on that page).

My mistake...you're right...I looked at that and thought the front and back pictures were two pieces...but it's really just a back shell, it appears.
Thanks, you've helped me a lot in your posts. The Otterbox also doesn't look like an easy-off design. Guess I'll stick with eBay hard cases--maybe I just took it off wrong the first time, as it looks like it also has a coin slot (unless I gouged out that slot myself).

I try hard to get them all right...but I was thinking about a description I'd read weeks ago of the Entrepreneur series and didn't check it back out well enough...now I/we know.

The B.G. entrepreneur is not a very good choice because it's a one piece that only protects the back and sides not the front of the phone.I bought it when I got the phone about 2 weeks ago cause it was the only one that Radio Shack had. Then I ordered a 2 piece plastic snap on from Amazon,And I must say that I really like the all around protection from the 2 piece plastic snap on one.

I was going to suggest this (because I ordered it last week). I came in here thinking no one would suggest the Body Glove, and here I come in... Body Glove suggested as a case. Very good! I had a Body GLove for my Droid Eris, and wow. Best case ever. Works fantastic with my oV too.

Hey do you know if the screen protector feels more like the glassy feel of the Optimus's screen itself, or is it rubbery like the Invisishield? I prefer the glass feel like my iPod Touch's screen protector, so any word on this would be great.
Didn't even need the car charger so I opted out for a cheaper price. Plus I looked up GT Max screen protectors on YouTube and they're glossy and non-sticky, unlike the Invisishield. Comes with a microfiber cloth for it too.

It feels like the glass to me. No difference I could detect. With invisibleShield, my fingers drag, and my taps don't register as well as naked glass or this screen protector.
Here is a good installation video. Using those instructions, I got my first bubble-free installation ever (in at least 20 applications). It helped that this screen protector comes with light plastic protectors on front and back, and that they each have tabs, so I managed to not touch the sticky side. Also, going long side to long side like in the video seemed to make it easier, as did the slightly smaller size of the screen protector.
I love this combo, especially once I figured out a trick in removing the case: after prying the front part a little off at the coin opening, stretch the thinner sides away to get them loose.
Please add the Otterbox LG Optimus Commuter Series Case to this list. I believe that this is truly the best case out for this phone at the moment. Buying one right now as we speak :]
