Question Any way to block the outgoing phone # on calls?

On some phones, there's a setting to disable outgoing caller ID, including phone number. The Optimus doesn't seem to have that capability. Is there a workaround? I'd rather not broadcast my cell # if I don't have to all the time.

The only way I have been able to do this is call the provider and they set it up on your account. I place a *82 in front of those numbers in my contact list I want to know I am calling.

I emailed VM asking the same question and that is what they said to do also. My previous Sprint account was the same way. Maybe other providers have a different method.

VM said they disabled it, and it seemed to block the ID part, but the phone number still comes through. Maybe it's undoable....

It worked on my Sprint phone. If I didn't put the *82 in front of the number, my friends said it displayed "Private Number" and nothing else. I would call back and tell them you want name AND number blocked. Hopefully they operate the same as Sprint.

Thanks, m-cman. I called them again today, and the CS agent gave it his best. He said the change was made, but the darned number still shows up. Maybe the change takes a while to take effect or something.

Doesn't it work to dial *67 before the number?

I believe that does work, but only on a call-by-call basis.

On the Virgin Mobile web page (your account page) there is a link under the Settings & Preferences tab to Edit Service Settings. On there are 2 options for international calling and Caller ID blocking.

Is this the caller ID setting the op was looking for? I haven't played with it so I don't know how it works.

edit: I just noticed it says: "To adjust these settings, dial *VM on your Virgin Mobile phone." So I guess that means you have to ask customer service to make the changes.

Thanks, Investor22 - yes, you do need to contact CS and ask them to block the Caller ID. It's not user-configurable.
