Default Setting picture as wallpaper problem...

Newbie here with (as of yet) unrooted phone...

I'm trying to choose one of the photos I took with the phone and set it as wallpaper...everytime I try to do this, it ends up blown up really huge on one part of the picture (like one of my children's eyes or nose, LOL)...but when I look at the picture in my gallery, it's a nice photo, regular size to screen.

What am I doing wrong? How do I get a pic I took with phone to show up as wallpaper in its normal size? Thanks in advance!

Donít beat yourself up. Android wallpapers are complicated.

The first thing to keep in mind is that the built-in wallpaper format is 640 ◊ 480 pixels. Why, you ask, when your display is 320 ◊ 480 pixels? Because by default, Android scrolls a wallpaper horizontally when you switch screens ó but only at ⅖ the rate icons and other screen elements are scrolled. Since 320 (display width) ◊ 5 (no. of screens) ◊ 2 / 5 = 640, thatís the width of the ďperfectĒ wallpaper for the V.

Does a photo youíd like to use as a wallpaper actually have to be 640 ◊ 480 pixels to look good? Luckily, no. The built-in wallpaper chooser allows you to crop, scale and clip an image. Thatís what the orange frame you see when you select an image to be used as a wallpaper is for. To use an photo in its entirety, you have to grab two opposite corners of the orange frame with your thumb and finger and enlarge the frame until it covers the entire image. If you donít, you end up with a tiny crop of the image, possibly scaled up to fill 640 ◊ 480 pixels, which may result in an unattractive, blocky appearance. Unfortunately, it takes some practice to get the orange frame to do what you want.

It would make much more sense if images that already have the correct aspect ration of 4 ◊ 3 (such as 640 ◊ 480 or the native landscape resolution of the Vís camera, 2048 ◊ 1536) would be used without cropping by default, by there you go.

Bottom line: take a landscape-oriented photo taken with the Vís camera, enlarge the orange frame so it covers the entire image, and youíre in business. No need to use a third-party app (although youíre free to do that, too, of course.)

Wallpaper Wizardrii has an option to Crop Exact. See if that will work for you.
