Yes, Bing sucks and is counter-intuitive to the premise of Android and Google apps. It can be tamed though, but never erased (unless rooted). Still, considering Bing can be contained, the net specs of this device beat the others (so far).
16gb internal (probably 2gb of this allocated for apps)
HDMI with dedicated video chip
Netflix (probably one of the few that will see it on VZW, since HTC seems to have a Blockbuster fetish).
Voice over LTE
Still has a single core Snap, but I have two tablets with the Tegra 2, so will probably get the Rev. I guess....

Really Bing is pretty much only downside of this phone. No dual core might be con for some too, but I'm fine with snapdragon 8655. But it's got many features going for it in hardware as rushmore listed.
you can sideload google search. then when you press the search key, it'll ask which app to use. select "make default" and click google search. the apk is easy to find. you might even be able to just go to the desktop android market site and send it to your phone. but it is blocked in the native android market.

Yea with root it can be diminished, but VZW should really get it that people want Google on an Android phone. That's like making Window 7 phones and taking Bing of it as the search engine. Makes no sense bro.

It does to LG and VZW, since they make money doing it. Sucks, for consumers, but since when has that REALLY been a factor for them or most other companies?

Consumers HATE bloatware that companies make money from and is a big reason why some root.

They may do it like they did with the fascinate and when it was updated they allowed you to choose either google or bing.
That would be nice. From what I gather though about LG devices, they are really easy to root and gain control of the boot loader which makes ripping bing out fairly easy.
Really looking forward to testing out this phone. I cant wait for its release.
I don't see how it could or would be blocked. Its a phone and even if it didn't come with the android market which is highly unlikely you can just use WiFi to load the apps, you can side load from the SD card, I mean the carriers think they blocked tethering, they didn't.
Can one still use Google Maps, Places and Navigation or is that blocked in the market as well?
I don't remember any of those being blocked on the Fascinate, and I doubt they will be blocked on the Revolution.
But since the Revolution is indeed launching with Bing, I'm back to calling Verizon "BERIZON" again.
Edit: to clarify, I was hoping they'd listen to outcry and not make Bing the default by the time the Revolution hit the shelves. My hopes are now dashed to pieces against rocks sharp enough to pierce my heart.
Ok, not that dramatic, but you get the idea. :P

was playing with phone at VZW store yesterday. was able to download google search and google voice search no problem. removed bing from home screens and replaced with google easily. granted, this doesn't fix internal collusion issues, but it's a pretty good start. custom roms should fix internal issues eventually.

The thing that pisses me off is that when I do a search from Google search it re-routes through Bing. I installed Dolphin Browser HD and it stays Google so I'm good there. All of the Google apps are available in the market. Google Maps works great! I just hate how the car home app defaults to VZ Navigator when you hit Navigate. I haven't been able to change that yet. And the map selection opens Bing maps.
Installing Google Search and voice search did not result in allowing me to choose Google as my default action for my search button. I just wish I could get rid of Bing without rooting. I'll probably just end up rooting it though!

I downloaded SkyFire, use Google as default. Same with Dolphin, Bing sucks, but it can be minimized or rooted. The good here is the 768 RAMand 16 GB internal memory/6GB external memory. I wish VZW would allow us to pay $50 more for a Vanilla Phone, they can keep the subsidized BLOATWARE.
I got mine today. So far I love it. Super fast and smooth. Once I removed all the icons from the home screens I have yet to even notice bing is on the phone. Set my default home page to google and am rocking it.

Long press on the navigation/bing maps icon to remove it. then hit the arrow to the next screen and create a new shortcut for Google Maps.
I don't see what the big deal is with Bing. Just us the google widgets. If that's not enough, root your phone and do with it whatever you want. It's really a non-issue, imo.

Only problem I have with bing is i'm used to hitting the search hard key, then selecting what i wanted to search, be it IMDB, maps, whatever... and when you freeze bing, the button becomes dead unless you are in an app that has settings for it.

Pretty much. Bing is a huge deal. It may also delay future updates as well.

I have a Fascinate and you can work around bing easy enough.....but I refuse to get another phone that has bing on it. bing is probably the reason why the Fascinate got 2.2 8+ months later than it was supposed to....
There was no way I could see to remove VZ Navigator within the stock Car Home App, so I checked a few out in the market and this one is great, Car Home Ultra. It is fully customizable but does have Google apps as defaults to get you started. My phone is now fully Google except for my capacitive search button.

Why didn't you search for it in the market and install it? I think the only way to change the capacitive search button function is to root! Arg!!!
Just FYI everyone, there is a Gingerbread keyboard in the market, if that is what you like, or if the two built in options piss you off. Gingerbread keyboard is very similar to the Froyo Droid keyboard.

So how exactly does one root their Revolution? Got any step-by-step dummy guides handy?
If you just want to use google
search instead of bing then you can download the Opera app. It has a google search box always available that works on the lg revolution.
