Launchers is the best way to GI. Especially since LG's UI isn't all that great. Try launcher Pro or Go launcher EX

Gotta agree with JayC. I use GO Launcher EX and aside from all the fluff you can play with, there are lots of functional items that I like, like being able to see the running apps and available ram just by opening the app drawer and choosing the tab. There's so much customization available, you could be entertained for hours.

There is nothing to be afraid of when using a third party launcher. The can't hurt you phone or anything else. They can however improve the experience of using your phone once you settle on the right one for you.

From reading various forums the three most popular seem to be Launcher Pro, ADW Launcher and Go Launcher EX. Go Launcher EX is my launcher of choice after trying many different ones. You will really have to decide which one works best for you.

If you want to change some icons try Thalcon Ultimate.

First off... you have nothing to fear. Launchers are just like any other app you can download but to answer your question no, you will need a launcher to use icons like you are requesting.

My suggestion is Go Launcher EX or ADWex, both support ready made themes that you can get, some themes are free others are pay. I use GO personally. I like the way it acts. Here are a couple of screen shots from my phone...

Yes you can add your own icons i make my own with adobe photo shop save image as 25x25 png to memory card.I think you will still need a launcher, i like go launcher. When you hold the icon you will be able to select your own from were you saved it
