So the wife and I selected a couple Shine Plus's back in Jan/11. Lately, we have not been able to download any apps. It always tells us that the download was unsuccessful.

Are you talking about market apps, if so, try going into the app and clear cache and data, and then sign back in to the Play Store see if that resolves your issue

I went into each of the apps I already have and cleared cache (not sure how I would clear data), but that didn't seem to help any. I've rebooted the phone, pulled the battery for 10 minutes and that didn't help either.

No not into each app, go to the market app or play app, and clear that cache and data

OK, then your phone must be different, I would recommend you post your issue in this section here and I am sure someone with the same phone as you will be able to guide and help you, LG Shine Plus - Android Forums
FYI if you would like me to move your thread there for better exposure give me the word, this way you won't have to post the question again

If you can move it, that would be fine.
I'm out the door to go to work anyways, so I won't be back til tomorrow afternoon.
When I was on froyo, I used to get a lot of authentication issues with google apps. You can check if you are having this issue by trying to use google talk and see if you get an error. If you do, try clearing data on the google services framework apk then try signing into google talk again. That might fix your market issues too.

Good luck.
I've no idea what Google Talk is. Again, I'm unable to clear data like you are. I just don't have that tab available to me.
If it helps any, I'm in Canada using the Canadian model of the LG Shine Plus with Telus Mobility.
Mark68, are you getting insufficient memory/storage error when you try to download? This is a problem with this and some other Android phones. For example, under phone storage i currently have about 30 mb free. When I tried to update with an 8 mb app, it will download but will not install because of this error. I then need to uninstall some of my apps to give enough headroom to install. I often can reinstall the uninstalled apps if I install the larger apps first and the smaller apps last (kind of like forcing the packing of the apps into storage). I also avoid any large apps (eg angry birds, Maps etc) in order to keep sufficient storage for my favourite apps. If only LG would fix the 2.3 update so we can use app to SD.

I've gotten that error in the past, but this is not the case this time. It just says Download Error.
I think your phone is eligible for a software update. Based on my google search you should be on gingerbread. It looks like you are on eclair which is two Android versions old.
I'm not sure if this it but here's a news article that I found. Hopefully one of your fellow owners can confirm.

OK, so I wasn't aware that I needed data to update/upgrade phone and just assumed it did so automatically via wifi. I have to go to work soon, but I'll try to download install what I need on my PC to update phone and get back to you before I go. If not, I'll be back tomorrow.
I HIGHLY recommend against trying to update your phone to 2.3.3. Look around on the LG Shine Plus - Android Forums and you will find all the bugs and disgust we have with LG for the update. You cant get the 2.3.3 update from LG or Telus since they pulled it and are pretending it never existed.
If you wanna take a chance however, take a look at

Is there any other updates available for his phone besides gingerbread? It looks like the OP still has the original firmware that came with his phone. What's the latest software version should he have?

He should have LG-C710h-V10D, which addresses a roaming issue, but it cripples the battery use screen. Its still 2.1 mind you, this phone skipped 2.2 all together.

When we first got the phones back in Jan/11, they took an update. We have been able to download apps with the current firmware installed in the past, I really don't see how that could be an issue now. I'll probably make a call to the boobs at LG and see what they have to say. Telus was useless (surprise surprise right).
This LG PC Suite will back up my phone so if I do try newer firmware and it doesn't work out, I can always go back to what I have now right?
I'll check back in when I wake up before I try it. Thanks for the heads up MisterPuzzler.

LG with stock v10d is notorious for having download errors. I had them myself and the only way I could get rid of them without spending hours on end figuring out why was to factory reset the phone. I'm guessing it has to do with data corruption on the Android Market.
As for v20a (Latest Gingerbread upgrade) as others have mentionned, it's been HELL. So updating is not really worth while.
Also, keep in mind that if you download an application that is too big for your cache, the phone will give a download error. So if you're downloading a 30 meg application and cache is already filled up, it'll give an error... Clearing the /cache partition would also help, but keep in mind this is lower level stuff and you need root and a file manager.

OK, so was going to update, but the warning about never being able to revert back to an older firmware scared me off.I don't want to be stuck with an even worse phone than I already have.
I'll have to write down all my contacts manually before I factory reset though. Not looking forward to having to re-enter all my wifi passwords.
I'll let ya's know how it turns out when I get a chance to do it.
That did nothing, so I did the factory reset. The factory reset worked so I can now download and install apps again.
Thankfully, LG PC Suite backed up my contacts so it was easy to re-sync them to my phone from my PC.
LG App Advisor will not download from LG, it tells me I have a connection problem. Hopefully it's not a needed app, I know little about this stuff really.
Thanks for the help and suggestions guys.

LG App Advisor is just LG's poor implementation of a market app... It's completely useless to be honest, so I wouldn't worry about that.
And 2.3.3 isn't available anymore as was mentionned earlier, it had too many issues... I'm keeping close tabs on the new bug fix release though, so once that's out I'll be posting it in the forums here.
Glad you got things running again! And the upgrade from v10c to v10d is useful to you if you decide to go out of the country with your phone. It was a simple roaming fix they applied and is the latest "Stable" version, so you're better off with this version.
If you have any other issues, don't hesitate to post in the forums! Some of us are still lurking about trying to help out when we can.
