Best tethering method?
So, on my LG Thrill I used the entitlement check method for tethering, but I haven't found that option for the Spectrum yet. Does this same method exist for Verizon? Is there an option besides 3rd party apps? Looking for some feedback on best method for this phone.

If you are rooted, WiFi Tether for Root is still the best option that I have found so far. Barnacle and OpenGarden both had problems with the WiFi stack on the Specturm.

Wifi Tether is good if you don't want a cord, but it's slow from what I've found. I use EasyTether most, but the free app doesn't do SSL sites, so keep that in mind. I haven't tested it yet, but Klink is a new app that claims to be faster than others.

Im using a old version of easy tether and works for me just isnt fast. Im getting 38mb/s download on my phone but only average about 7 mb/s tethered. When I try to connect to modem it says it cant sense im connected to 4g so im guessing thats why its slower. It will only connect through ethernet how can I make it connect to modem on the phone?

I think they fixed some issues like that with 1.0. The speed is really dependent on the app, so try klink.. The devs claim its faster than other tether apps.

I'm confused. Are you trying to accomplish a hard wire tether to your phone? Is there any reason why you aren't using WiFi for tethering?
Works fine but still dont fix connecting to the modem still giving the error this cannot switch to modem mode while this device is connected to LTE. It tethers fine just not 4g fine. Any way around this?

His tether doesn't require root and uses a different method than the root apps, so the speed might be slower. I haven't tested so I can't say for sure.
MrB, how do i install the apk's for wifi tether for root? It's on my phone from TB off my LG ally, it's version 2.0.7 and worked well installed on Velocity. i didn't install the wired version with it could that be part of the problem?
When i turn it on it get the following errors in the log.

Yep. Basically, it turns your phone into a wifi hotshot, so turn on authentication if to make sure others don't use your connection. It shows as wifi tether, I believe, when you look for wifi connections on your phone.

The wifi app and koush's app allegedly circumvent the legit tethering/hotspot methods, so vzw has no clue. My guess is as long as you're not a bandwidth hog, they'll never be the wiser.
I use 'auto' and have no issues. I used it this morning as a matter of fact.
Sent from my VS920 4G
So you just use "auto" for device profile?
Do you need to enable MSS Clamping or Routing Fix?
Also does it show as infrastructure or AP when you connect?
Sorry for the questions, I'm waiting on my SIM card and just doing my homework beforehand. I was using the VZW mobile hotspot hack on my D3, so I havent used WiFi Tether in a long time. I just installed 3.1-beta12.

Im having trouble with wifi for root on my tablet. For some reason pdannet keeps freezing on my galaxy tab, so i was trying to use this method but the spectrum doesnt show up in available networks. Amy advice?
I was having the issue of my galaxy tab 10.1 not seeing my spectrum with the newest version of wifi tether beta 14. Tried my usual trusted version 2.07 but that didn't even work. Then I tried barnacle, didn't work. Meanwhile my laptop could see and connect just fine.
So I was about to give up when I found a backup of wifi tether beta 12. Installed it and changed profile to nexus s, which I did not try on other versions. And my tab connected!
Not sure if it was the beta 12 version that made it work or the changing of the profile to nexus s.
Only problem I had after that is when I left the app while it was still running and tried to use another app, a message popped up and said something like"what the hell? Your system retook control of wifi. Shutting down wifi tether now" or something like that. Pretty annoying to say the least.
Only thing with pdanet is it's a trial and after your trial is up you must pay 16 dollars to continue to use it. I didn't want to pay that much so I tried to use other apps and nothing would work. I went through so many apps but nothing would stay connected to the internet except pdanet. Don't know what that app did to my phone but it's almost like it forced me to buy it...so i did. Still using it now. IT'S A CONSPIRACY!!!
I used pdanet and was able to use other apps after it. Foxyfi looks like a good one... Going to test it out.
I use foxfi for wifi. But I use usb the most because I have issues with connection drops while uploading using wifi. But I never get connection drops with the usb.
In my opinion foxfi is the best mobile hotspot app though. I tried barnacle and open garden and found foxfi to be better than both.

Still using USB tether, yesterday I hit 2.25MiB download using easy tether pro while downloading the Ubuntu 12.04 x64 CD via torrent (15 max connections), while traveling at 80mph down i77 in North Carolina

Are there any specific settings to FoxFi that you're using? I am unable to get any of these tethering applications to work.

Sorry for bumping an older thread.
I seem to have trouble with this app, I am not able to connect like others have been and I have tried your method of auto (with nothing else checked) with no success. Just making sure here, but is there any other settings in wifi menu that I may need to know about before attempting this. Further, do you reboot after changing your device profile or modifying changes in 'wifi tether for root users'?
Thanks again for the information. I desperately need this app to work, it would save me a bunch of time and money while I am working i the field.

Honestly, stop trying to use wifi tether and get foxfi instead... It's far better. Make sure you get the add on app, otherwise you might not be able to get a solid connection.
The LG Spectrum for Verizon Wireless is the sucessor to the LG Revolution. Surely, LG did not want to stay behind, so this device packs some great specs and features. The Spectrum sports a 4.5-inch HD IPS display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and ... Read More
