I'm a new user, so this may be a very stupid question. I tried the voice to text and it doesn't come close to typing what I actually say. Is that just the way it is, or is there a better app than what the spectrum came with? Thanks for any advice.
Device(s): Samsung Moment, Droid 4, LG Spectrum, 2x Nook Tablet, all rooted.

I usually don't have an issue with v2t, if you have Swype, at least the newest beta, has the option to add dragon v2t to it. I've been using nuance dragon programs for 12 years now and love them.
Also somewhere in the settings you can click a check box to improve Google v2t by having Google save your recordings for further analysis. Unfortunately there is no future prompting, so you have to remember not to say any real personal info!
I believe hackers keyboard also uses dragon, and dragon had their own keyboard, flex t9, also a Swype style Kb that uses their v2t engine. I bought it from Google market for $5.99 then three days later it was the Amazon FAotD, kinda pissed about that, as I waited 3 or 4 days while I decided if it was worth the cost and the inconvenience of using a different Kb than I was used to, just to get a better v2t. And I liked the Kb I had, but whatever. At forward 8-10 months... I have not used flex t9, except the first month I had it. Just like Swype better.
A side note on Amazon apps, and why I am not that upset over buying flex t9 right before it was free, Amazon apps have a phone home feature, if they cannot contact Amazon, or you uninstall the Amazon market, they will stop working after about 5 days (never tested it enough to figure out exactly how long), I think wiping the data from the Amazon market app and not logging back in has the same effect. I found this out the hard way when I bought a tablet that was wifi only and took a week vacation. At the time I only used the tablet for things I could not do with my phone, so a data connection was not important, now I use my tablet like a laptop replacement, sometimes...

Funny enough, I would say that 85% of the speech to text transcription is spot on for me. Do you have an accent? Try pronouncing your words completely. You may also want to turn on the Google custom voice recognition option -- that is if you don't mind Google being able to build a voice profile of you. *tin foil hat*

Thanks for your reply. You are very informative! I'm just using whatever the app that it came with is called. Like I said, I'm new to this and I am just trying to figure everything out. I saw the little speacker icon on the key baord and tried it, but it wasn't even close for the most part. When the guy at Verizon used his, it was perfect!
I have been using V2T for about 6 months and it always runs about 90% or better. I could say a long paragraph and it might miss a word or 2!
Then about 2 weeks ago, it got to where it won't recognize a thing. I have switched between default and Google and they are both terrible.
What happened? It was GREAT for about 5 or 6 months, then became terrible.

Did you go into Menu | Settings | Voice input and output | Voice Recognizer settings
Language should be English (US) I presume
I have Personalized recognition checked.
Maybe through the dashboard, you can log in and delete your personalized voice related information and start over?
