I have an LG Spectrum that I've successfully rooted and used for months now with no problems. Last night I thought I plugged in my phone but I didn't for some reason and the phone died. This morning when I tried charging it there were constant flashing lights and no response. It finally has starting charging but now when I boot up the phone it loads normally until the 4G screen and just stops.
I really don't think this is the boot loop problem that many have gotten with rooting phones because I changed no settings, didn't add/delete any programs - nothing. I've read about this issue in another thread but the solution wasn't definitive.
Ok I went to Verizon and they said they couldn't help me because my phone was rooted - not unexpected. They did manage to get the phone booted to CWM recovery but now I don't know how to use the recovery tool.

As for CWM recovery, there should be an option like "Reboot system now," and that should reboot your phone normally, unless you have the old version without the built-in bootloop fix. If that's the case, try steps here: CWM Touch Recovery For LG Spectrumexcept you only need to push the cwm_bootloop_fix.zip to your zip card, if you don't already have it (i.e., only use the first part of the post to tell you how to get the fix to your SD card if it's not already there). Once you have the fix on your SD card, you install it with CWM according to the second link and you should be good.

I rooted my phone in June so the CWM recovery version should be one beyond the old one but it's not working. When I click "Reboot system now" I just get back to the same screen.
I checked out the second link and the problem is I can't set my phone into debug mode with ethernet, etc. When I connect it to my computer, nothing changes. The computer recognizes the device but I can't seem to interact with it.
Also the Verizon employee wiped my phone of all data I believe so I don't know if the recovery tools were wiped as well.
Is there anything left on the SD card? They might have only wiped your phone's data and not the card's data. The simple solution would be to plug the card into your computer to check. If stuff's there, you just need to go to the "Backup and Restore" option to restore a backup, or "Install from .zip" option and pick the appropriate .zip file; if it's empty, put your choice of ROM on it, and re-flash the ROM in CWM.

@steamer86: I haven't tried that method, don't have the files, and Neph's method works fine for me so I haven't needed to try out something different.
@jmson23: If your computer doesn't have an SD card slot (or you don't have a SD card converter to plug the microSD into), you can definitely put your card in another phone; shouldn't be a problem at all. Just make sure you're on Mass Storage mode so you can transfer the files. Don't worry about sending any money my way, I'm only providing links; if you're feeling generous, donate to Neph81, PlayfulGod, or death2all, or any of the other developers who work so hard to make the Spectrum better.
Finally, as a word of caution, make sure to follow all instructions carefully to prevent bricking your phone. If you have any questions, message someone (or post here) and wait for a reply.

If he flashes that while still having the boot loop flag, one of two things will happen. Either he'll return to stock and it will wipe his phone, or he'll be stuck with a brick because it was the upgrade flag he was caught in and now he has no CWM to work with.
Always, always, always, try the boot_loop_fix.zip first. It's small, and easy to get onto a memory card. Hell, Walmart sells micro SD card readers for $5-$10 and they're open 24/7.
Edit: Also, if you can at all get into CWM recovery and understand basic ADB commands, then mount the sdcard partition in CWM and then use ADB to push the file to /sdcard
I don't have an SD card reader on my computer so it looks like I'll have to use another working Android phone. The person I'm thinking of doesn't have their phone rooted. Should I still be able to grab the file and save it on that phone? What program is best to do so? ES File Explorer Manager?

I can help...you dont have to run commands from command line. best thing would be to grab the file with another phone(doesn't have to be rooted) save to the sdcard, and put the sdcard in your spectrum, boot to recovery, flash the zip, and reboot.

Ok, now the phone did the flashing thing again. I plugged it in and now it won't even boot to the CWM recovery screen. I'm really hoping that this is just a battery issue and once it charges that will come back. If not it looks like I'm fully bricked.
EDIT: CWN recovery is back! Whew.
I also read the "How to return to stock" directions more and I see that I'll need two files no matter what, so now the only remaining question is do I use v4 or v6?

If you follow through on Neph's "How to return to stock" post to the very end, including using the stock restorer, you should be on whatever stock you restored (v4 or v6) and not rooted.

I saw it happen many times when V6 first came out. People were taking the update, getting stuck in CWM and then flashing stock over the top. Because the flag in /misc was still set to perform an update, it would sit at the android with the arrow coming out of the box. Because there phone was now wiped, the files it was looking for no longer exist, but for some stupid reason, files missing do not equal the program exiting. This leaves you with no ADB access, and no CWM to clear the /misc flag. The only possible way out is a custom .tot file with CWM baked into it and so far no one has been gutsy enough to write it and try it out.
I was gutsy enough to do it on the lg ally, made sure it was the same size as stock (byte for byte) and put that into a tot. and i came out with a nice brick. absolutely no response, would not turn back on, wouldn't flash the led. nothing. it was dead. I refuse to try it again. Screw that noise.
