From what I've seen, that is not normal. What rom are you using? How much screen time do you have? What settings do you have for cpu, etc?

I'm using CM10 and out of those 2 hours, I had my screen on about half the time to answer various messages and check email. And for Min frequency, I have 192 MHz whereas for max, I have 1242 MHz. I don't know if that's what you mean by cpu settings, though.

4G does drain battery pretty fast but it shouldn't drain like that. What governor do you use?

Something definitely isnt right if after 2hrs ur at 23%. A few things 2 consider...Reboot into recovery and try wiping only your battery stats, then reboot. Also how old is your phone? Maybe ur battery is getting old? U can find new ones for relatively cheap. Your settings dont seem like they should be affecting your bat. life that much.

Well, I see mediaserver is taking quite a bit of juice... Were you streaming music or listening to offline music?

Both will keep the data connection active and you'll see a gradual drain like that. I see battery stats like that when I stream Sirius at work... And my battery lasts about 2 hours doing it too.

This is what I get with moderate use:

Its a lot worse when I stream on 4g/cdma.

Well, I guess that could be a problem as well since the battery is almost a year old. I was just hoping this phone could hold out until the S4 or X phone are released. The phone has a plethora of problems anyways so I guess I'll be switching to a new phone soon.

I was listening to Google Music, some of it was offline and for that time, my 4G was off. The thing is, 4G absolutely kills my battery. When I turn it on, I'll see my battery drain basically by the minute. If I keep it off, my phone will usually last me around 10-12 hours with moderate usage (texting and listening to offline music) which I usually do on school days.

Another problem that my phone seems to have is that sometimes, the battery will drop off sharply as in my phone will be at 70% and then I'll restart the phone and then it will be at around 45% and when I check battery stats, there's just a vertical line from 75-45. Does this mean my battery is messed up?

There's your issue right there. GMUSIC caches all music so the initial download will use some juice, but the app uses a fair amount of battery, even for stuff on the phone in the cache already.

And yes, 4G destroys the battery, because it's a 2 layer connection and the 4g portion requires more resources to keep a connection. I precache music I want to listen to with my wifi @ home. That tends to give me better life.

You'll see lower battery after a reboot, because it takes a lot of juice to do a reboot... But what you described is a bit high. I'd look into a new battery.

I've been using the Spec2 battery. About a three hour gain after replacing the original that's about 9 months old. I'd say average of two. Also, still on stock ICS debloated running FB. Lasts the day with moderate use, not too bad.

I was thinking of using a Spec2 battery for my phone but I read somewhere in this forum that it was bad for the phone for some reason I don't remember so I held off on doing this.

Do you think it'll be better to go with the Spectrum 2 battery or the extended one?

Hmmm, I'm wondering if I should go with the bulky extended battery or the spec 2 battery. I don't really need that much battery but then again, it would be nice to have so that I can keep my 4G on the whole day.

I didn't really notice the bulkiness myself, but then again I came from having a gel cover, which made my phone a little thicker.

So with the extended battery, the phone's thickness become about equal to it with a gel case on?

Must be your battery, I'm back on my stock as the extended won't charge, just blinks my key Leds a bit faster than once per second.

I never turn 4g off, have a fairly weak signal, I leave GPS on all the time. Don't use my phone for much, and have lots of power saving settings active. Here are some screen shots for you taken right now (CM10 v1).
Battery stats

Currently my settings have decreased the cpu settings per the rules I setup for battery <40%

My rules page 1

My rules page 2

Memory management settings

Custom screen brightness settings, still playing with them, a little too dim in low light day light

And a paid app, phone weaver (has a free trial too) that I use to change my radios and audio settings at different times of day. It would take too many more screenshots to post all of the settings, but I will on request.

Should I hold off on buying an extended battery then? ^ I'll probably try out a Spectrum 2 battery and see how that goes if so. Also, how do you get into those settings? I've been there before but I forgot how to, is it an app or is it somewhere in my system settings?

From Verizon. The extended sets the back out like 1/2 an inch, how's that not noticeable... the curved back makes it a bit better, but, no thanks. Used my phone a bit, few texts, on here, bit of Facebook, a call, sat overnight off charge, connected to Wi-Fi all the time with a couple drops. 50% battery @ 16.5 hours, 8 of no use. 4G and GPS always on, no battery saver apps at all, stock mostly debloated ICS. Wanting to look into juice defender, but not even sure if it truly works, at least the free version.

That's what I paid. I'm currently at 7% (23 hours[maybe 10 of sleep]{moderate use, more on the light side}) on my mostly stock set up, no battery saver. On CM 10.1 I could imagine what I'd be getting. Your battery life seems horrible IMHO.

It looks like you have a lot of screen on time. Also it looks like the phone doesn't have a solid signal across that time period. The both of those will cause decreased battery life.

Hmm, I think part of it may be due to this battery being damaged. It got wet a couple of weeks ago and it hadn't really shown any immediate effects but I guess it's showing some now. Instead of purchasing a new Spec battery, I'll go with the Spec 2 and see how that works out. I just really hate having to keep my 4G off the entire day just so that it can last me until I can get home.

Mr.B, how does Juice Defender work for you? Is the difference very noticeable and do you have it difficulty set up? Going to jump to CM 10.1 soon. Also today I got 9 hours of heavy side use on the Spec2 battery. Sitting at 10% ATM.

Wow, I'm sometimes scared to turn on my 4G to stream play music because I'm afraid it might drain my battery.

Even though I'm not being addressed Juice Defender offers a very noticeable difference in battery life if you set it up properly. It helps a lot by saving you from doing certain tasks such as turning on and off data everytime you unlock your phone. It does this automatically and helped save some battery and time when I had it enabled. The free version helps but the paid versions offer far more customization and settings that may help you with your phone experience. I suggest you read/watch a review or something similar before you buy it though.

Oh yea... I get an extra 1-2 hours with JD. Of course, I micromanage the shit outta it, but it offers great savings. I can post a screen shot of my settings if you like.

What should my preferred network type be? It's currently on CDMA auto (PRL) but I don't think that's the original setting. And how do I get it to be on only CDMA?

You should be LTE/CDMA (prl).

Technically, you're always on cdma... LTE is a 2 layer connection, but when there's no lte connection, you'll go to cdma only.

Had a good run this time, checked text messages a couple of tunes an hour during the day, the phone calls I think, less than 30 total minutes, but I think it was also off a 91% charge, if it had made it one more hour it would have gone into airplane mode for the night and I would have made it another 6 or 7 hours.

No change from the previous settings used, still stock spectrum battery, on CM10 I did have two random reboots, I think, at least I turned my phone on to see the boot animation loop twice yesterday.

Those settings are under display - automatic backlight - edit other levels.

Now if I can find out why maps is running all the time, I might be able to hit 18-24 hours on a charge with almost no phone use... Will have to wait until next week though. I actually use my phone on most weekends :-)

Is there a setting to only use CDMA since it seems to be less power hungry than using both lte and CDMA at the same time

Edit: Nevermind, I found out myself.

These results make me wish my phone would last longer. I unplugged it last night and it drained in 3 hours with WiFi on and moderate usage

finndo's results don't count. He turns his screen on for about 1 minute an hour and has data turned off.

Look at the breakdown. Anytime cell standby is using more battery than the display, you know the phone is hardly ever being used.

If you want long battery life on your phone then turn off data, only use wifi for internet, keep your screen brightness all the way down, and make sure you don't use your phone for more than 2 minutes an hour. Then you'll get battery life like finndo :]

*this is not meant to be mean or hostile towards finndo's excellent battery results, I'm just making an observation based off the evidence presented*

Kinda seems like a waste in an LTE device to me. If you're streaming music, you'll have better life on LTE than cdma... Mainly because the connection has to be active longer on cdma, whereas on LTE, the precache allows it to work in shorter bursts.

Finndo, check and see if automatic location reporting and or location history is on. I've used it on and off and noticed the difference in battery usage because of GPS and Wake interval. Thanks Mr.B. There's so much fine tuning to be done on advanced.

Yeah I found that out for myself earlier. I guess I'll leave it on 4G when streaming music and 3G for other tasks. Would that use up less battery?

Also, I was going to purchase the Spectrum 2 battery but I wondered if it could be a problem with the phone as well? Both the phone and battery got wet and I don't want to buy a battery to find out that I'll get the same results due to the device.

I had Juice Defender on my LG Esteem before I rooted it, and somehow afterwards JD doesn't work the same way. Even when I turn the connectivity off the screen my battery still drains likw 2% every 30mins. That's with a basic setup.

Right now I'm 2hrs 27m 19s on my battery

and I'm already at 88% with moderate use.

what screenshot app you guys are using?
