Default Magazines, subscribe or buy individually

With the uprising of Ezines, Ereaders, and other electronic means of information it seems a lot less magazines are being bought. I personally still love when I get a new magazine in the mail.

Do you still subscribe to your favorite magazine, or have you stopped purchasing them except for the odd few.

PS WOOHOO we won our new section!

I won't normally buy them, except for when I'm on long journeys and so on.

At least with the magazines I read, you can find the vast majority of the same content online for free.

I stopped subscribing to things cause I noticed that stores still get them way before hand.. I have about 5 magazines I get every month, always buy from newsstand.

Really? I find that I receive my magazines about 2-3 weeks before the month they are due for.

I noticed it with GQ quite a while ago. I would be in a store and see the new one out.. and not receive it in the mail for another 7-10 days .

I subscribe to a few magazines but I don't pay for any of them. I get them as rewards for answering online surveys from time to time. Otherwise, I would probably just read them online.

I'm shocked. I have never had any issues receiving my mags. Perhaps you should try to contact GQ or whatever mag you were subscribing to?

I think it might just be the location I have them sent to. Cause friends who get the same magazines experience it too. I used to live with someone who had a subscription to Cosmo, and it would always get stolen.. she got like 7 issues all year. Maybe it is just terrible postal services in AZ. lol

Postal theft is relatively uncommon where I live. Most times my mail is dropped into my house via mail slot on my door so I can't say I could relate to your situation. That definitely sucks. I would most definitely contact the mag in which you've subscribed to and voice your concerns.

The postal services told me it is not like people taking it out of mailboxes, its people at the postal services taking them while in transit. I dont think its a big enough deal to contact anyone, nobody would really listen anyways I assume. I have just come to terms with stopping by the news stand 2-3 times a month.

I used to subscribe to Road & Track, but because of economic reasons, I cancelled it after 20+ years (still have all those old issues, too). Now, I'll occasionally buy an issue of Popular Science, but usually I just go to the library. I can get through pretty much everything in R&T that interests me in about an hour, and all it costs me is $0.50 for parking. yes, my library has paid parking meters. And since I live about 200 yards outside Salem city limits, in the city of Keizer, I have to pay $60/yr to use the library in the first place. Awesome.

Last one I tried to read, it was like the last paper book I tried to read. I kept looking for the button to increase the font size. LOL

Old eyes are the pits. Thank goodness for ebooks.

The kind of magazines I read all have an internet edition. I live in a remote rural community and I only go occasionally on errands to the nearest town where they sell magazines. So naturally, all my contact with the outside world is via the web. Furthermore, in an ezine I can chose to download only those articles which I want to read. This saves me a lot of paper and space.

I do both.

Some I subscribe to if there is a deal for the subscription and I would be planning on getting more than one.

Sometimes there may be a magazine that catches my eye, but something I wouldnt normally subscribe to. And those times I might wind up subscribing to it anyway....it all depends.

I know for me, having the paper back is nice when on the toilet....lol. I have some of my magazines in pdf format.....but it just isnt the same....and sometimes ads get left out of the pdf that I may wanna see.

I subscribe to ones I like, and then if they piss me off I will never buy them again.

Car and Driver and Automobile both fit the former description. Although Car and Driver has recently showed a few signs of coming off their high horse.

Meanwhile, I also buy a magazine for my parents that I end up reading. Garden and Gun (yes really, think southern living meets Guns and Ammo, meets the Fine Living network and a splash of Conde Nast Traveler).

Example, 4 pages on a drink named by Ernest Hemingway whilst in NOLA, followed up by an article functional replicas of Double Barrel coach guns, then followed by a report on a new resort in Outside of Charleston.

This thread is old but I'm going to bump it up- I love magazines! And I love going into town on the weekend and killing time at my local magazine retaillers, we have lovely newstands in my city. I don't necessarily buy the same mags every month (though I used to buy Runner's World and Oxygen magazine monthly), I like to bounce around. Sometimes for months at a time, I'll be on a fashion mag kick, then I'll be interested in the Asimov Sci-Fi mini-mag for a few months, then something else after that. While others in this thread are right- I know damned well all the content in Runner's World is available for free on their website- I just love the feel of a glossy mag in my hands.
