Default I don't read now only listen

Hello all,
Just became an Android (6 days ago) user after many years of first iPods then iphone4.
I now have a Samsung Galaxy note2.
I just wanted to say that I love literature and all my life have been a great reader. I like music but not a great listener.
However a few years ago I bought an iPod and entered the world of podcast listening. This led to listening to books, either bought from the apple store or downloaded from Librivox or Podiobooks.
This all started before the kindle revolution and so I now am a listener, not a reader of literature.
I used the native podcast catcher within iTunes and was very happy with it. Lately I was very unhappy with Apples new podcast app. This was one of many reasons that made me look at Android.
I am now using BeyondPod and I like it a lot. I got the free version but I now keep getting momentary messages suggesting my free trial is ending soon!!! Strange.

Welcome to the forums Gfplux.

Glad you're enjoying android and your new device.

As far as that application goes, I'm not sure. I've never used it, but I'm guessing the trial is there so people can play around with the app and then it'll stop working until you pay. I'm guessing that's what is happening.

Have you looked into any other podcast applications? I had a friend use the Google Listen (or whatever it's called) for a while. He liked it.

I'm becoming a big fan of audiobooks, too. I used to think they were only for long car trips; I couldn't see why I'd want to listen when I could read for myself.

Not long ago, I went through a long patch where I had a lot of pain and couldn't sleep well. I started listening to books on Librivox because being read to helped me to fall asleep. The habit remained, and I often listen to a book when I get into bed, letting it lull me to sleep. I have favorites that I listen to over and over just because I like the reader's voice and interpretation so much.

I sometimes listen to library audiobooks on Overdrive media console, too, when I can find a decent one that's available for checkout.

Podiobooks looks pretty interesting. I'll have to try it.

...
The person who reads Harry Potter series has a great voice, and he 'acts' his way through the books using different voices for all the characters. He's really good, and it makes the books quite enjoyable to listen to.

Edit: I just looked at the name of the person I quoted, that's a wonderful name.

Why, thank you.

I found a new gadget to listen on: Audible Manager (audible.com) I didn't sign up for a monthly membership; I just downloaded the free software to my PC and the android app to my phone and tablet. The books are expensive, but I actually wanted a specific book enough to pay full price for it.

I haven't played with it too much, but it looks as though it automatically syncs between your devices so you pick up where you left off, you can move your books to and from the cloud, and on the android version you can set it to read you to sleep and stop after x minutes, or at the end of the chapter.
