Lmao
Maybe unreasonable to "expect" but if google wana keep us using android devices.... and they do update thier unlocked nexus' very well.
As for manufacturers.. if they want customer loyalty then its in thier interest to update an unlocked phone during atleast a 2year life span i think (if the hardware can handle it)
As for carriers........ meh! Lol

I completely disagree.
My point is that it is not in their best interest to give you free updates forever. To develop an update for a phone costs $$$. At some point, to continue to develop new updates for a phone will cost more than the money they make from selling that model. They need to keep their profit and enough aside to put into development across hardware and software of future models, or they will lose their edge.
I think I have set all this out in the android fragmentation link in my signature.
Jealousy, if you're gonna use it to motivate your self its one thing, but if you're just going to use it to get mad and have a reason to be upset, just drop it. I admit I get jealous at times, but I don't show it, I don't get mad when someone doesn't comply to my jealous demands.. I don't even make demands based off my jealousy.

Nah i defo think a phone should have a life where its supported officialy for free. Surely thats included in the original price of the phone?
Besides.. i dont see any OEM offering payed for updates for thier devices so whats the alternative? Buy a new phone? Me n my wife are on disability benefits.. were poor

I used to be a destructively jealous person in relationships.
Glad i grew out of that.

I get a kick out of those who post here wanting to know when the "next big thing" will get here. All the posts about getting ICS when it was released. If it's a good security update, I'm all for it. If it will let me run my phone and tablet in the (legitimate) way I desire, I'm all for it. Just to get it because it's new and I'm bored?
Fuggedaboutit.
If stuff is released too soon, there are always problems. I remember trying to deal with special software on Vista when it first came out, and the software makers hadn't got up to speed before they released more software.
I'd rather see updates released slower, making sure that most bugs are out. This will upset the "Igottahavit" but it would probably give the majority the best experience.

Lol. what baffles me is how samsung handled the UK roll out of JB.. most of the carriers had rolled it out with thier customisation and bloat BEFORE sammy released it in UK for unbranded international s3

If by life you mean until it dies, then either you're not understanding how business works or you appreciate that you will have to pay more for the phone in the first place
You own a restaurant. It costs you £4 to sell a meal. It costs you £1.50 to sell a drink. You sell the meal for £6 and the drink for £2. £2.50 profit
To get the punters in you offer meal and unlimited drink refils for £10. So if someone has a meal (£4 to sell) and 2 drinks (£1.50 to sell) you've made £3 profit.
If someone has 3 drinks, you've made £1.50 profit.
Ok so you own the restaurant. You need. Profit. If someone has 4 drinks you make no profit. If someone has 5 drinks, you lose money.
See the problem? The meal deal is the smartphone and the updates are the drink. Updates cost the oem to produce. There comes a point where the next update will mean there is no profit. This means they may aswell not even have made the phone.

Re: Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?
Id rather pay more for the meal in the first place tbh n i think thats what we do anyway.
All phones have a life-span where theyre still being sold (usualy 12-24 months) and it should be supported with free updates during this period imo unless the phone is physicly incapable
Nope we get a meal deal. If you paid for the meal only, you wouldn't be getting any updates at all.
But no, I would not want free updates forever because they would lose money and never bring out a new phone. By wanting free updates forever I am actually stifling the industry and ruining it for myself and everyone else.
Security patches for 2 years, yes. Major updates for 2 years - no.
Maybe because it isn't a smartphone, our Nokia 6085 bought as a refurb is still going.
Since I have TMO value plan, they don't care. That phone must be 7 or 8 years old by now. The Vulcan loves it.
What I don't like about the updates:
You should be asked if you want it. I know you don't have to install it, but it sits there available. I have a friend who automatically downloads everything Sprint sends. Then complains if an app she uses has changed slightly. I remember reading the TMO forums. Everyone whining about "when do we get Gingerbread" TMO updated the phones, explained everything in the forums, but the majority of the complaints were that the phone didn't "work right" any more. You should be able to check "no update" somewhere like you can change other apps to manual only.
All of the benefits and goodies are always talked up. You never see the downside or any of the other inclusions of stuff you might not want or need. This makes some of the users drool, expecting that the new release will solve any problems that they may have or include a function that is touted as needed. Separate the utilities from the goodies. I'd want security updates, but I don't particularly want a new social media or any media app. Let those who want it check it off in a list somewhere.
Sometimes new is not an improvement. New for the sake of new is not. New to increase efficiency, security, ease of use for most, is. The majority are not rooters, tweakers, overclockers.
A lot of tablet users wanted to go back to Honeycomb when ICS first was available. Stuff didn't work right for months judging by the posts here and in other forums.

The thing that really grinds my gears is/are "No Win - No Fee" Lawyer shysters.
Especially when you couple them together with 3 Asian men who plotted to destroy as many lives as possible using home made bombs in the UK.
What grinds them even more is finding out that these 3 men have been living for years on the benefit system that our country gave them.
Ungrateful bar stewards.

Won't happen. If someone brings out a phone that has different cases available, a different style, mostly cosmetic or cutesy stuff, the marketers will try to convince the people that this is a "must have." The current phone might have better hardware, but something new will be a draw and actual specs ignored.
Most here are probably in the minority. You do care how the phone works, are interested in "new" as it applies to a bug or security - not how easy it is to connect to Facebook.
I am small. 5'0". Relatively thin, but in good shape. My 20 year old daughter is 4'11". Tiny. My 15 year old daughter is 5'1" and also small. More muscular, like me. Now the issue...
Why is it they can borrow my clothes and state they fit them, but when I ask to borrow something from them (not low cut jeans or shirts with cutouts....mainly dresses for formal parties...) the say "it isn't going to fit you....you will stretch it out"....
If my size 2 petite dress fits them, why the hell won't their size 2 petite dress fit ME????

Because you are the mom.
But then... You are the mom, just take the clothes and wear them.
Likely, once you've 'contaminated' them with your oldness, they will be yours forever.

Found a great apartment and was about to sign the lease when in fine print it stated that musical instruments of any kind are not allowed. I hate fine print. I play my trumpet between noon and 6 daily. How would that be a bother? People are usually working during those hours. I refused to sign off because I enjoy playing my trumpet.
HOAs here tried to tell you how many pets you could have. We were only supposed to have 2, but our cats seem to come in groups of 3. We wound up with at least 10 ferrets at one time, plus some cockatiels. We no longer have an HOA. No one wanted the job.
Jerk drivers that are only concerned about themselves. We have a drainage problem with the gutter by the street. Street crown is too high and we are on the north side. So we all take turns trying to keep the darn gutter clear to drain snow melt. We got 8 inches of glop last week, neighbor was taking his turn clearing the gutter and some old jerk comes driving up the street and just splatters the neighbor with slush! He had the whole road and could have moved over.

Since sleep is a requirement to function in day to day life, I think those who work the graveyard and swing shifts would be severely bothered. There's more people who work those shifts and sleep during the day than you might think.
Not to mention the children not of school age who are laying down for their naps in the afternoon. Nothing worse than a severely annoyed parent trying to get a toddler to sleep when a neighbor is playing an instrument, stereo, working on a car and blasting the stereo, etc. etc. etc and keeping the baby awake.
When you live in a community environment, you have to respect other people. That's just the way it is.

Time to stop letting them borrow your clothes and for them to learn that relationships involve giving, not just taking.

Today's rant...
Being lied to by 2 Samsung customer service supervisors, being told that no manager talks on the phone, and after 8 phone calls, multiple emails, chats and questions... Being told sorry, no one worldwide can add their CC# to our Apps Cash, sorry, you won't be able to use the apps on your TV and blue ray player because the website can't be fixed.
Really?

If someone is complaining to me about money problems and wants advice from me, don't get mad at me when I tell you my opinion on it.
Someone I know:
Works at a place that is closing in May
The place has a total of 4 employees
the person writing the schedule is now giving the majority of the hours from the person I know and giving them to someone else so they do not quit.
Leaving the person I know with 45 minutes a week, making just above minimum wage (7.45 an hour) that is a check of 11.17 biweekly.
This person is in college and wants to keep this job because it is super easy and she can do her homework if needed.
When the place closes she will get severance pay so I told that she should keep working her 45 minutes a week so she can still get it, but find another source of income because 11.17 (before taxes) every other week does not cut it when she has to drive 33 miles to school and 33 home. The school she attends has jobs that she qualifies for and pays 8.50 an hour, not only is she allowed to also work on homework there, they provide flexible hours to help with busy class schedules.
I told her she should look into getting a job at the school, and she got mad at me.. to me I don't see why one wouldn't, especially since she qualifies for the office jobs that continue over the summer where she would then have the option to work 40 hour weeks I just don't see the bad in my advice.
On the topic of lol, I say it in my conversations daily whether it be saying L O L, or pronouncing it "lawl", "lul", or "luls" Sure its not an actual word or punctuation, but it is an acronym. Do i think some people over use it, yes. Some times when some one types it to me I ask them if they really are laughing. When I say it I actually am laughing
