and the number one answer to Why I prefer Android over IO5.................

PORN! LOL

Plain and simple I just like how Android does things over IO5

also having different hardware and screen choices is really nice. I find the iphone 4 heavy and not very ergonomically friendly, what's with the sharp edges?

For me it is being able to see data at a glance. You don't have to open programs when you have widgets for weather, facebook, twitter, calendar, and gmail (i use launcher pro+ widgets). I have an iPad and I like it a lot, but for a phone I prefer android.

Bottom line: want an Android phone, you must accept Google at some point.
So freaking what? You need an account to use the marketplace, but you don't need to ever use any of the google apps. You can even use the Amazon store for apps if for some reason you don't like the Android market.

While Gmail is on the phone (I have to use web base. We have naked dsl. I can also access gmail thru Tbird so I don't have to look at the mail site.) I did forbid it to sync. A sync just messes up the XP laptop and the Ubuntu desktop since I use Tbird.

I hope that Bing and IE was tongue in cheek. Bing is in the hosts file on XP and I have IE blocked by the FW, I haven't used that POS since 4. (You could buy a lite version which hid IE)

And with Ubuntu, I can pick and choose!

Try this:

First, I'm going to say that I have a rooted Droid X and a JB ipad. After reading this thread, I feel like going to iphoneforums and ipadforums to defend Android and its openness. Nahhh, why the heck would I waste my time like that.

Well over 18 months period I will pay £270.00 less than iphone for an HTC Desire.(I got £180.00 cashback when I singed up my contract and same amount of minutes was £5.00/pm less)
I have all sort of necessary apps
Very well articulated with Google accounts
Good apps are mostly free
Customisation without any jailbreak or root
I think, iphone is a bit girly I find my android a bit more masculine
Although I have an imac I still hate Apple and its marketing strategies and arrogance

Android system is a wonderful system because it's open sourece and everybody can make a unique system. And ios is a perfect system in my eyes. But it's can not be customized.

I have never had an iOS device, but I can say that as a Mac user who at one time was very much into the whole Apple scene, I love my Android and have no regrets at all. For me it's all about value for money. I've finally realized that Apple never provides that. You are always paying way more than the product is actually worth. My MacBook is one example of this. The specs of the computer as about as good as a PC half the price. It seems that the same thing is true with iPhones. You are paying an absurd amount of money for a device that has either equal or less capabilities than any high-end Android phone.

The tiny little screen on iPhones is also a huge turn-off for me. I like to look at pretty things. And what is the point of that big button? Waste of space.

Customisation.

I like the iPhone, but I did the "grid of launcher icons" interface with Palm in the 90s. My Android desktops show me live info (not possible on iOS) and launchers are organised in folders in a scrolling dock. To me that's tidy and functional, but I can't do that on iOS.

And if that's not your style, you can do something else, rather than having to do what someone else decided was best.

And if I want to hack the software, then the manufacturer may no longer support my warranty (which is fair enough) but otherwise they leave me alone, rather than play a constant cat and mouse game with me. Which also suits me better.

This is simply untrue. The Amazon Kindle Fire is an example of Android without Google.

Furthermore, you can avoid Google by not using it's services. Want to search? Install Bing. Use the Amazon Market instead of Google Market. You can entirely avoid Google should you choose to.

Indeed, if you really don't want Google you can root and install CyanogenMod without the optional Google apps add-on.

The flip side of this is that one of the commonest problems from novice rooters is "Help! I rooted, installed CM and now I don't have the market!"

Have you guys gotten used to it or why is it that you choose Android over iOS? I know this is a fan boy website, but im asking for the most non-biased answers(if possible).
If you're happy with what you got, stick with it! It's what YOU want in a device, right?

What you could do is, buy a used android phone from craigslist or ebay for dirt cheap just to play around with it. The market is flooded with android devices and you can probably pick up a droid x for under a 100 bucks (For the bigger screen), or some other model for around 50 bucks that's not as powerful just to play with android.

What do I like about android?

Hands down, first and formost is having adobe flash. This is a feature I need. I like the bigger screens that are available and the fact I can get a device I can carry a spare battery.

It all depends on your needs.

This thread was dead and resurrected by a forum scraper (steals posts for their site), so, I'm going to lock it because 1) it's based on earlier versions of Android and iOS, 2) we seem to have no shortage of Android vs. iOS or iPhone or iPad threads at any point in time, and 3) some of the people with earlier comments may not wish to respond to them, after all, their posts are now about 3/4 of a year old.

If anyone really wants this opened back up, please drop me a line, my door's always open.

Cheers, thanks!
