Default E-mail from 12/31/1969 ??

For the last week or so I've been getting e-mails dated 12/31/1969. There is no subject or body to message, just a blank e-mail. I just delete them. Anyone else having this happen ? Thanks

That's impossible. The microprocessor wasn't even invented until 1971.

Unless you are a fan of LOST. Then, anything is possible!

I imagine you guys know this, but if the date is a zero (or blank, which is null or zero), then that correlates to midnight on 12/31/1969 (or 0:00am on 1/1/1970, depending on the programmer).
... the time that it is right now is the number of seconds that have elapsed since then. Apparently the world began on that date and we just didn't know it.

Default Humpa-That's good information (if you're serious)

That explains the date-if it was blank like the rest of the e-mail that"s where the 12/31/1969 came from- I still can't figure out where the mail cme from in the first place. It's only on my droid, not on my desktop. Very strange.

Its a problem with andorid reading the headers incorrectly, here is a copy of my header, all other clients read it correctly but not the droid, Ill try another email app.

Return-Path: system@xxx.com
Received: from john ([192.168.1.6])

I think the semicolon is throwing it off, you shoud check your headers and see if there is a weird char before the date, that seems to be the cause.

This happened to me after a recent crash forced me to remove the battery and restart the phone. When it restarted, the date had "reset" to the epoch start as explained in the previous post. Going into the phone's date & time settings and manually correcting my options solved all my problems. Hopefully the original poster figured out the problem before now, but perhaps this will help the next person who has this problem.

I just started getting this a few days ago. Six messages at once, dated 12/31/69. Only shows up on my droid, and not on the server for the same email. I tried forwarding it to myself at another email address to see if any headers would give me clues, but that was not helpful. Does not show the 12/31/69 date in the forwarded one. I'm getting tired of selecting and deleting these on my phone! WTF?

I started this thread (regretably) almost a year ago. Since then I've received that e-mail 6-8 times. No big deal, just delete it. Humpa had the answer to the cause. Nothing to tear your hair out over.

Default only from one specific person

I get lots of email from different domains; but the 12/31/1969 glitch only shows up on my droid from one person. rather annoying when the "new" message is all the way at the bottom of the list.

Apparently, Unix which is a popular operating system on most servers, workstations and mobile devices, launched on January 1, 1970. So, there is a DEFAULT date of December 31, 1969. Blackberry gets more specific. Press and hold ALT, then while holding press: "l" then "g" then "l" then "g". This will take you to the "logs" screen. Clear all your logs and you will see only 2 logs left. One of them with a present time and date, and the other one will read a date and time of: December 31, 1969 @ 19:00 hrs. Why there are blank Emails reading December 31, 1969 is a mystery. Maybe there's a hidden message that Androids will go extinct in the near future. Just a guess....

Google "email dates 12/31/1969" because there are lots of people seeing these types of messages with that date. Apparently, you cant delete them permanently.

I get this date on my SD card sometimes. I then have to troll around and figure out what is screwed up and delete it. Then power off, then it's fixed.

Some time ago, I Googled 12/31/1969 and it is a big mystery. Nobody seems to know why or the significance of the date. Lots of guesses.

December 31st, 1969, was the last day of the sixties.

The very next day, January 1st, 1970, "disco" came to the mind of some malcontent with no redeeming qualities, and brought it to disgusting fruition not long thereafter.

You, getting those emails, are doomed to meet Sly and the Family Stone, Prince and The Bee Gees as you enter Hell at death.

You have been warned.

Well, I met Sly Stone's trumpeter, Cynthia Robinson on several occasions, way back in my B-Flat Coronet days. I am still a huge Sly and the Family Stone fan. Lots of talent in that group.

The song, Spirits Having Flown is one of my favorite Bee Gees songs, and Prince (Not a fan) is an amazing musician and quite smart.

So please, by all means, introduce me. We will party like it is December 30, 1969.

Ok ok.. disco's wonderful.

Now, now, now, now, . . . not everything the Bee Gees did was disco. If that is what you are trying to say. To be fair, they were largely responsible for spreading it about.

I must admit, Bob does not, nor has he ever discoed ( or disco-ed perhaps) down. I can find some limited value in Disco, but the search is long and arduous to be sure.

I prefer to Rock on, or head bang. Even the occasional getting my freak on is ok. Sadly, disco is not exactly dead. It exists waiting to reappear.

We used to go to a club in Long Beach that played disco music and had the flashing-light dance floor and the rotating ball, etc.

It kept me from having to go on my treadmill for quite a while, but I finally stopped going to the place when I noticed it gradually became populated with nothing but white people who danced even worse than me.

History.

Perhaps you are not receiving them for a reason, right? Either you are not on the list or you are on a different list. Until we know why, not receiving such messages might spell doom for you.

Ive gotten emaiils with this date from abcnews "breaking news" updates. Hmm, this must be a global 'android' issue since its various devices and email accounts not related to one another? (I thought I was the only one and wrote it off)

Well, they are bringing back the Delorian, and it is confirmed that they can go 88 MPH, but no confirmation on what happens after that.

I read about this date code thing. It's a roll over code due to the use of binary. It's something like 10 1's is some date this year and then it rolls over to all 0's and it's back in the 60s. I forgot where I read the article or what it was even called, but the computer smartypants people are trying to add 4 more positions so we're good on date code headers until 2.5 million years from now.

So, after we annihilate each other with nuclear weapons, die off, then the long cycle of planet healing and re-evolution from bacteria, the next technological race will have to figure out how to add 4 more 0's to make it so it's no longer their problem, either.

I just received two of them this morning, dated Dec 31, 1969 at 6:00pm. complelty blank... I posted on my FB wall about it and it wouldn't show up on the Wall for friends to see but it would show up on my personal wall.... crazy. I deleted one, tried bringing it back to my inbox to save it to show my BF but it wouldn't come back, and then i deleted the other one from inbox and trash because my boyfriend thought it would be someone trying to hack into my system. I never checked my Desktop email to see if it was there or not, but it was in my yahoo account on my Droid X2

Welcome to the forums!

Mail like this is the usual result of a spammer or someone beyond completely lost in setting up their computer and email on their end.

The unix epoch time began on Jan 1, 1970, so the sender screwing up to that level takes real talent.
