TAR ball is a file that ends in the suffix .tar.gz

It is a file version compatible with Linux. In windows you would have to convert it using something like 7zip, IIRC. I don't know if that is a full explanation and I am sure someone else could chime in with more info but I am trying to remember from a walk-through and 7 pages of info off the top of my head!

TAR balls for everyone!

Well, personally I don't see them as nearly as work intensive as, say, writing your own kernal, and they work SO well. You also get the 'wow' factor, from your friends.

The tags are about $1 each, and it doesn't take many. I think most people would use between 2 and 6, maybe? If you want, send me your address and I'll mail you a couple of tags.

See below from my post about how I am using them:

It works VERY well with NFC Launcher! I pretty much now just do my programming of the tag in Tasker, and simply have the launcher run the Tasker task.

For example - I have a Tasker task called "car dock." It:
  • sets my screen to never time out (can't do that with NFC Launcher)
  • loads Pandora in the background (and starts it to streaming)
  • sets my phone to "car dock mode." (I had no idea our Nexi even had that mode...I never ran across it in the settngs.) This is nice because when it's in that mode, and I presss the 'home' key, it goes to my car dock program. FYI - Car Home Ultra is a GREAT car dock app!
  • Loads my navigation app, and that is on top, asking me for the destination.
  • BT on
  • Volumes all set
I also have a tag for when I work in my home office. It stops the keyguard, sets screen timeout for 90 seconds (you can't do this with NFC Launcher, Antimony), loads Pandora to start streaming, loads my phone app (exDialer), and finally, pops up a message to start working.

I prefer the stock launcher as well. I'm sure it will be optional as are most of the tweaks he's included with the ROM. *crossing fingers*

Awesome on the stickers it's so much fun!

i thought everyone in here would know, its a well known issue. when on wifi, for whatever reason it has an issue switching from wifi to 4g/3g to send an mms and will constantly show "sending", and the mms will never actually get sent. there are a bunch of theads about it in the nexus section

edit: stock rom, stock messaging app

I don't know that any ROMs out yet are "to die for" although from many comments here I'll wager that's arguable. I was happy with the stock ROM but I missed the flashing thing with the X2 after having the OG Droid.

My first ROM was RevolutionHD. I still consider it a favorite since it is basically just an optimized version of the stock ROM.

I tried Gummy next which I didn't care for although in fairness that was probably due to it being the first ROM I tried to over clock which resulted in reboots and erratic behavior.

I am now on AOKP based on all the chatter in this thread. I am using it with the lean kernel with interactiveX settings applied at boot. Not bad although I did have a random reboot this afternoon. Not sure if that is due to OC to 1350, UC to 350, or just a coincidence.

At this point I would be happy with Revolution. I will say that I am a fan of the Nova launcher. I didn't like it the first time I tried it, but on a 2nd run its been fantastic, especially after moving it to the system apps with root access.

The bottom line is that this is a great phone for tinkering with and yet also is amazing if left as is. With a few tweaks like the black & cyan keyboard and Nova's landscape home screen and scrollable dock, this has been a great phone so far!

Has anyone else that is using Nova Launcher as an app (non-rooted) noticed that it rearranges all of the apps within a folder on the home screen after rotating to landscape? I like being able to have the home screen rotate, but I ended up turning that feature off after it kept reordering all my games. :P

Running Codename1.0.1 with the Black and Cyan theme from Rootzwiki. Loving this ROM, extremely customizable, and I'm getting 30+ hours per charge with normal use.

Good lord, Tapatalk compresses those things to absolute crap. Oh well, you get the idea.

i think what's weird is that the bugreport title shows mysid 4.0.2 ICL53F... i'm definitely running 4.0.3 IML74K
It is happening on stock. It's annoying. I'm not sure what's triggering it, I even wiped my phone clean, thinking a bad app is doing it, but it's not the case. I can't rename the file because I'm not rooted, how can I get rid of these generated reports OR rename the file (if that is a proven solution/workaround)?

My Nexus is rooted with the stock 4.0.2 rom.

There is no reason for me to flash after market roms.
ICS is light years ahead of any OS out there and it is only available for the Nexus, so I am happy for now.

if that weren't enough, long press search to open voice commands is back as well! this is the first rom i have seen with that feature, and i have really been missing it. you also get built in options for % in battery, clock location, and a 3g/4g toggle in the notification bar. doesn't get much better!!
I'm contemplating trying this.
I forgot how much fun flashing is!!!

AOKP 16 came out tonight... another great build.. but I went back to Peter Alfonso's stuff... its stock as stock gets... but really fast and snappy. Not even the slightest but of lag when hitting the recent apps key or anything... although, I'll be honest. I do miss the extra features

How does one get those mods to the phone? Flashable zip? Drop it somewhere in the system?

I will continue to hold off flashing (at least until saturday). I don't have time to set up everything again.

AND - you are all very bad for my wallet. But thanks for the posts on the charger (it arrived today), the car mount and the cable to use in the car. While I was on amazon I also came across a computer stand for my new desk and resistance bands.

For the battery, what I've been doing is making it in UOT, picking a generic CM7 rom as the zip I want built, download it once done, then extracting the 100 png's of the battery with 7zip and copying them over to an already done battery mod zip for aokp whatever build your on (like any of them) so it just replaces the images.

And I absolutely love spending other peoples cha-ching!

UOT will eventually support ICS, can't wait as then you'll be able to go through the hole gamut and completely revamp your UI to how you want and have the custom zip built. Won't be too much longer for ICS support from what I read on their thread @ XDA.

I am running Redemption Rom with Franco's kernel and actually getting decent battery life today. But now I am tempted to switch to AOKP....in your experience, could it affect my battery life, if I keep using Franco's kernel with it?
