Ok, that's weird. I remember playing with the avoid poor connections option before (probably when I was on 4.0.1, GSM), but I can no longer find the option in settings either. I'm now on stock 4.0.2 (GSM) and maybe it was taken out for some reason...

Hmm, I've got the SuperClock widget, and when I click on it, it goes to my Alarms, which I actually quite like.

EDIT: Ahh, wait, I see - it goes to my Alarms when I hit the clock, and forecast when I hit the weather part. Cool!

I just received my NFC tags. Now I need to decide what I want to to with them.

I was thinking of sticking one inside my car dock, Can the tag stay next to the Gnex without any issues?

Have you confirmed they work? I've heard of issues with the nexus and other tags.

Yes, they work fine. I've been using them like crazy - see the earlier discussion in this thread from last week about them, and the various uses. WAY cool stuff with these tags! (especially when used in conjunction with Tasker!) I use NFC Launcher generally to call up a Tasker task (a series of actions, such as setting volume, screen timeout, wifi on/off, BT on / off, open multiple programs, etc etc.) and do all my customization in Tasker rather than on the tag itself. I find that easier, and more convenient when testing.

These seem to work the best for me:

These seem to work the best for me:
tagstand - Mifare Classic Sticker - Square (35mm x 35mm)

tagstand - Logo Mifare Classic Sticker - Square (35mm x 35mm)

Have fun!

Just got mine in yesterday, but have not had time to set the new tags up yet. But I will be doing the same....program the tag to call up the Tasker profile.

Looking forward to playing!!!

I will take my phone off the charger at 7am and by 1pm I will be at 40% with hardly any use.

I know a lot of you will tell me i should root it, try a rom, etc and maybe i should but the reality is the phone should work properly out of the box.

I already exchanged it once and I'm hoping Google will put out an update soon but after owning the TB and having to manage my day around my phone's battery is getting old.
Yeah, 2-3% is normal for a Rezound. No doubt it'll be normal for the GNex as well after a fix -- the sooner the better!

But 62% is way over typical for the GNex -- usually around 25% from what I've seen. Is it set for 4G and struggling to maintain it? Cutting back to 3G/CDMA mode should save a lot in that case.

It is beyond me why anyone would NOT want to secure their phone, but I guess there are plenty of people out there in Nexus Land who see no need to. And that's fine. In case of of loss or theft, though, I want to make sure that anyone finding my phone will have a hard time logging in: until I make it impossible for them by locking it with Lookout. To each his or her own, I guess

I quite like face unlock. No, it's not infallible and it does poorly in various lighting conditions, but I find it works more often than not. Considering what a pain it was for me to pattern unlock my Droid dozens of times throughout the day, face unlock saves me considerable time getting into my phone on average. Again, to each their own, but I had to throw it a little defense

Okay, I'm done... I think

I do put a lock pattern on if I'm on vacation or doing a lot of shopping. That way I feel better knowing its secure.

Face unlock requires me to take a direct shot of my face and in typical female fashion I do not like that angle so I won't use it.

On the OG Droid, I had to set up a pattern lock to establish a connection with our company's Exchange server (a server-side requirement), but once I set up the account, I simply disabled the pattern lock screen and everything worked fine. I guess the server was content that I had a pattern set but never checked that it was actively being used.

My phone is very rarely anywhere besides my pants pocket, especially when I'm not home. If I'm in my apartment, it's on my pocket or on my night table.

It's all about the screen. The phone is very efficient when the screen is off, I estimate that I could probably get 25-30 hours from my extended battery on standby or very very light usage. However, while playing a game on an emulator, I can burn through the whole battery in 2-4 hours. Something like that won't really be solved with getting a larger battery. It'll increase the overall numbers, sure, but it won't really address the root of the issue.

They're great! They're going to be small it seems. Sort of a surprise, but a good one. They have almost all their big girl teeth in and they're still 16 and 20 lbs at 18.5 weeks! They're getting their breadboxes taken out in the beginning of Feb so that should be interesting. haha.

One good story for them is from NYE. Boo, like her namesake from To Kill A Mockingbird, is afraid of a lot of things. Our neighbors set of fireworks, right across the street. And not the small kind! Well she was terrified and her daddy tried to take her outside to pee -- she hid under our deck for 3 hours! We had to crawl in the mud underneath it (its only 2.5-3 feet off the ground) to get her out.
My wife's dog (Toby) was also terrified of fireworks. we took him to the community July 4th party when he was probably 3 or 4, and he experienced them for the first time. We were sitting in Left field, and when the first one exploded, he bolted, trailing his leash behind. Thankfully someone caught him as he was heading out of the gate in right field, and held him for me to catch up. THe poor dog was breathing insanely fast, and smelled awful from sweat, was terrified.
Fast forward two years, we were setting off some tame, non-exploding (sparkles and hisses only) fireworks in the front driveway. We decided to let the dogs including him come out and play. I lit one of the bigger fountains, but instead of sparks, it exploded in one shot, a massive boom. Once we calmed the kids down, we realized Toby was gone. We never saw him again. Please be careful with dogs and fireworks, I never want anyone to have to experience what we did.

I thought it worked fine, but what I found annoying (and the reason I ultimately turned it off) was that it required a backup security mechanism to use when it failed. I wanted to be able to unlock my screen without always having to pick up the phone. Face unlock doesn't work when it can't see your face.

Anyone else having a problem with navigation reading off what sounds like web addresses and coordinates? Seems to only do this if I have any voice engine on besides Google TTS, curious.....

Interesting. I'll look at my wife's Bionic when she gets home and see if I can disable it. Thanks!

Well, I noticed I lost all battery charge while SOL with service (in an underground movie theater). Went from ~60% to 10% in 2 hours. Yikes! Got to learn to turn all data off when in a bad area.

Really, the Rezound only uses 2-3%? How is it possible for two phones to have such drastic differences?

okay here's a weird thing, charging with the cable and charger that came with the phone it showed "charging (usb)" . Switched the cable out for my touchpad cable and it said charging (ac). my car charger that puts out .95 amp also says (ac). Don't understand why the stock cable doesn't. The touchpad cable is about twice as thick. it's made for the 2 am touchpad charger.

My guess is Rezound is typical of most Android phones and that Nexus just needs the wakeup bug(s) fixed to be similar. Does anybody know for sure what a normal range is?

Nexus' 4.7" isn't that much larger than Rezound's 4.3" and I think the Nexus' SAMOLED will be about the same or maybe a little better efficiency than the Rezound's LCD. And besides, the power used by the screen isn't directly related to the power consumed by the "Android OS" task.

i though going to aokp cleared my kernel back to stock.

also, i'm hearing great things about faux 10 with regards to battery life

also, if you guys use leankernel, there's a tweaks package by jake that made a world of difference in performance. the phone actually felt like it was overclocked for real.
If you try faux's kernel and have ever been on an imoseyon kernel I'd flash faux's reset kernel before going to faux's stable release.

They go in both ears, and the mic isn't fixed and they don't clip on.

So I am wondering if anyone's run into this and might recommend a model of a mono headset with fixed mic that might work as well (read "as loud") as the stereo headsets?
Interesting....the stock Samsung phones do have a mic it works well, but during a phone call it does sound a little odd even though plenty loud enough.

Anyone else using this? I had been using AirDroid, but EarlyMon is correct about it bring s-l-o-w, especially when trying to copy AVI files.

I installed and setup swiFTP, and I am able to connect from my Mac (using FileZilla) to /sdcard, but I can't write to any of the subdirectories as they all 766 and Root Explorer claims I can not change their permissions. I also tried writing directly to /sdcard (which is 777) but FileZilla gave me an error and stopped.

Anyone know what the "trick" is to using swiFTP successfully with the Nexus? Or, what is the latest preferred method for copying large files from a Mac to a GN?

EDIT: Never mind. On a whim, I connected my phone via USB to the Mac and it immediately connected as a media device and opened a window for the sdcard. I'm copying files as we speak. Who knew it could be so easy? :P

N3xGen Theme Manager: Market For Android Launcher Skins & Themes | AddictiveTips

"N3xGen Theme Manager is a free app that fetches various Android themes from the Android Market and gathers them at a single place. As of now, the app displays themes for three of the most popular launchers out there (GO Launcher EX, Launcher Pro & ADW Launcher) and Theme Chooser compatible themes for the acclaimed custom ROM CyanogenMod 7. The app supports searching themes by keywords, categories, developers as well as their availability (free/ paid)."

IIRC, Nova Launcher supports theme for some of these, like ADW. Does it support themes for GO and Launcher Pro as well? Regardless, this seems like a very useful app.

EDIT: Seriously though, does anyone know if Nova supports themes for GO Launcher and Launcher Pro?

Give Me Strength

Daughter wants a <cough, hack> iDontKnowWhy 4S for her 16th Birthday. Why? Because all the friends have them and they iChat or whatever. This after having to get her a Bold last year for the same reasons and BB Messenger. Of course, she's 16 almost, so do I stand a chance of convincing her to BE the trend-setter by going Android? Of course not.

Wish me luck.

Anyone have a line on a cheap 4S?
