Good Morning Gnexers!
While I am generally opposed to buying single stocks as opposed to mutual funds, is anyone else here tempted to pluck down some cash on Facebook stock?
One part of me thinks it could be the next big thing... another part thinks it's about as big as it's gonna get already.
I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the IPO...

I don't follow stocks/mutual funds/bonds or any of it BUT it does seem like something that has potential. On the other hand, the bigger Facebook gets, and the more changes they force upon us, the more it makes me want to stop using it.

I personally am leaning on option 2, that it is not going to get much bigger. Phandroid's Android Overload tells why:
"Facebook cites Android and iOS as "big risks". Can't make money off of mobile."
You have to be out of your mind to say something like that. If facebook isn't going to support mobile as a way to expand their business, then they aren't going anywhere IMO.

I go with number two. It is grossly overvalued and not likely to hold its price after the first day offering. In other words, if it follows the other recent tech stocks (linkden, groupon, pandora, zynga) it will sell high and then drop immediately. Google was three times less expensive as an IPO and facebook is 40 times more expensive that the average IPO of the last 40 years. With this kind of price you have to ask yourself if you believe that Facebook can grow enough to have enough revenue and profit in the first few years to offset its cost. Facebook is already traded on secondary markets like Share Post and pre-IPO investors are already able to buy and sell shares from employees and current shareholders; simply meaning a lot of money has already been made here.

Hi everyone -- hope all is well.
Super busy at work this week. Miss you all -- anything exciting in the world of Nexus?

So I have not picked up my Nexus yet because (i) I'm still north of the border and have been since launch day; and (ii) my business absolutely depends on reliable cell service as a phone (yes, I know, a phone ); so I've been really concerned about the radio issues and 1-way audio problems that people have reported. Hoping to see updates that solve that.
NOW, I read on BGR:
"Samsung may launch the successor to its wildly popular Galaxy S II smartphone this coming April according to a new claim. Following the leak of an image depicting what will likely be the first Galaxy-branded smartphone to carry Samsung’s custom user interface atop Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, industry insider Eldar Murtazin noted on Thursday that he believes the Galaxy S III will launch in April. Murtazin has a proven track record and the time frame lines up with earlier reports claiming the Galaxy S III will be unveiled at a press conference some time after Mobile World Congress, which takes place in Barcelona, Spain from February 27th through March 1st. Samsung’s Galaxy S III will reportedly feature a quad-core Exynos processor, a Super AMOLED Plus 720p display, 4G LTE connectivity, 2GB of RAM and Android 4.0 when it launches later this year."
So I'm wondering if this will have a different radio build, if this will be the next big deal, if it will come to Verizon, yadda yadda.

Verizon could get this, but it probably won't be in April. And it will have touchwiz.

I can't remember the last time that Eldar Murtazin was right about anything, but BGR and a few others insist his track record is great. I didn't even bother to post when he said (within the last few weeks) that the SGS3 would be at MWC. Now that it's not, well, you know.
I've heard nothing but shadowy rumors on its hardware, no telling anything at this point.

Well, at least we could have another massively fun speculation thread, modded by Early (who would get the free phone this time) and populated by Han's coming and going

I was one of those people that had the 1 way audio problem. The final straw was when I was on the phone with VZW tech support, because I couldn't access my voicemail (my phone simply wouldn't access it...odd.) Anyway, the 1 way problem happened then. By that evening, I had another phone on its way to me, and I've been using it for nearly a week...love it! So far (knock on wood) I've not had that problem at all with this phone. It also is getting much better battery life, too, even though I was actually pleased with the last phone's battery life. Regardless, this one seems less buggy all the way around. I think it was some type of hardware problem...maybe from a certain batch of phones, I don't know. It just did some odd (and minor, except for the 1 way audio issue) things, but so far this phone has been 100% perfect - no reboots, no 1 way audio, the NFC reader even seems to be better...loving, absolutely LOVING this phone!

Good morning Nexicans! I am sitting in a rocking chair watching my boy use his imagination. Great way to start the day!
How is everyone today?
That sounds awesome. My youngest has just started walking, but I find myself watching all three of them all the time, wondering what is going through their little heads while they play.

How 'bout getting me a straightjacket instead and we'll call it squarsies?
But yep - I guess I won't resist the next big thread.

Such a fun time. My only is 15 months now and is such a joy to watch. Plus he talks like a crazy man and says all sorts of fun things! Oh, and did I mention that he walks around the house like he owns it???
We are very fortunate

Those were the best years. When our son was that age, he pushed a tractor around all day and would NOT remove his little yellow hard hat. He kept saying something 24/7 that we could never decipher, sounded like "trucksinsideman." Two years later we watched one of his videos with our next kid, and saw Elmo say "I'm a construction site man." Mystery solved.
Enjoy your time. It goes faster than you expect.

So how funny would it be with Facebook going public and then everyone deletes their account? Facebook would then be worthless. I so wish that would happen.

I had one for this month. I gave it to my sister. She got the iphone I told her to get it. It suits her better. She was rocking the og droid, but droid just isn't for her. She loves her new phone. I keep telling her how much it sucks We are also on a family plan. So if I wanted I could use my nephews in May or my sisters in April. There is also another for next year is under my mom's number

I'm already in! Boycotted from day one and refused to join like a lemming.
Would love to see all that spent time reclaimed.

Went to bed last night and my phone was fine. Woke to my phones alarm that I could barely hear. I messed with the volume and volume+ and nothing made it louder. Rebooted phone, nothing. Uninstalled Volume+, nothing. After work I rebooted again and volume worked. Thank god. I was worried!
"Google has been ordered to pay €500,000 to Bottin Cartographes, a French company that filed a lawsuit against Google France after it began providing its free Google Maps services to customers. Google is also responsible for paying an additional €15,000 in fees. The court found Google “guilty of abusing the dominant position of its Google Maps application,” Economic Times said Thursday. ”We proved the illegality of [Google's] strategy to remove its competitors… the court recognized the unfair and abusive character of the methods used and allocated Bottin Cartographes all it claimed,” Botton Cartographes lawyer Jean-David Scemmama said."
This is NOT copyright infringement. It's just a sore-loser map maker that has a beef with Google's free maps that Google created on it's own dime.

* Snow accumulations... total accumulations of 12 to 22 inches
can be expected along the Front Range urban corridor. Closer
to the Wyoming border accumulations will range from 6 to 10
inches.

Without a deep, long freeze the creepy crawlies don't get a good population reduction, and without snow at elevation, we don't get spring run-off we need. That equates to a likely year of drought, and we can't have another.
Anyway, all thoughts to those north for a safe survival of the storm - and if you want to send it our way, we're down with that!
That much snow. The word snow is worse than any curse word to me.
I see.
I find this interesting. The last two snow storms we had looked to have had a different set up then this one. An Occluded front has set up right in the center of Colorado. There is already a comma patern on the radar (animate this map to see what I mean: Maps and Radar : Weather Underground)
