We haven't had much snow up here in my area this year. A couple of thoughts came to me that I thought I would like to share here as we are getting some snow now.
I love to stand outside and listen to the silence during snowfall. It is different from any other silence I know. I hope other folks can confirm this for me. I can't explain it. It is just peaceful to stand outside for a few minutes and listen to the snow fall.
I just went on an ice cream run for the family, and there is nothing cooler that the star wars effect when you put on your high beams in a snow storm.
pupkact, did it snow by you today? We got a fair bit today here in Boston; started around noon, though by 7 when I left work it was mostly just raining.

As much as I dislike snow I will say that I agree with you on the silence. We have a highway that runs behind the house and when it snows hard its eerie how quiet it gets.
Now I'm going to have to try the headlights thing since I understand that!

I'm in Douglas Massachusetts. It's snowing like mad here.

+1 on the unique quiet of the snow and on the amazing look of snow in high beams. Looks like our natural sound and light show has ended for the night here.
I think it's unanimous. The quiet of snow is like no other. I love during heavy snow to just lay down and watch it floating down, I think there is nothing more peaceful.

I wish I had a drift car in the snow or something I didn't care about much so I can sit in a parking lot and do donuts in it. Oh well - snow just becomes a nuisance after its done falling. I'm definitely not partial to it and probably will be moving south of NJ when I want to settle down to leave it behind.
So I decided 7" is the perfect size for a portable tablet -- this playbook is killer so far. Super quick, the touch sensitive bezel is real nice. Honestly if this had apps from the start it would've been real popular. Some screenshots below for those interested.

Let me just say how much I love Triple A. I went to use my mother's vehicle this morning but it wouldn't start. So I ended up in my own and called Triple A after dinner. Came within the hour and its all better for now.

I just up'd to AAA Premier -- has some really nice perks. Definitely worth it after my accident that was 170 miles from home. Really expensive tow trying to get it to my body shop.
Man, it's been a SUPER mild winter here in DC. Today is supposed to be 70! I grew up in MA and really miss the snow. Couple years ago we had a huge snow storm that completely crippled the city for days. Of course, the restaurant never closed .

I remember that one. Pictures circulated around work of the hanger at Dulles which collapsed due to all the snow, damaging a nice collection of expensive business jets, including some of our own. Here's a pic I found:

Yikes, yeah and a few large business stores' roofs collapsed. Here's an article. It was quite a site to see. I've never seen snow come down this fast and I've spent plenty of time in snow country in NH/VT.

I like getting up early with the girlfriend - this morning I did all the dishes and cleaned off my desk. Sometimes I get so productive in the morning.
Thanks for the weather report! I hadn't looked yet.
Mornings are evil. Personal opinion only. I have a tendency to get a streak of productive energy around midnight.

I'm still a morning guy from the baker times. Today (since I don't have to go to work until 1pm), I slept in to 6am
Tonight we have our manager's outing. We close the restaurants a whole 1 hour early and tonight we're going bowling. While I love bowling, I don't love being out past midnight and getting up 5 hours later to go to work
Let me ask you guys a questions. How would you feel if you found out your workplace had provided a list of names, job titles, and salaries for every employee to your local newspaper so they could do whatever they wanted with it?
+1 on that. I got the Galaxy Tab 7+ and absolutely love it. Perfect size for a tablet.
I've had 2 ~10" tablets and 2 7" ones. I say they almost have two different applications. I love the portability of the Flyer, but I think the Prime just can be more widely used. If you spend the majority of your time reading books or surfing the web, a 7" is perfect. But, I guess I just like the larger screen real estate of a 10" tablet for all my tasks and can suffer the added weight and size to transport.

Love the 10 inch on the Transformer, seems perfect to me. However, it rarely leaves the house so size is not an issue. I bought it for my husband, he is not a techie. Once I had it set up for his ease of use, he uses it as his main device mostly for web surfing. The larger screen makes the touch everything easier for him and easier for me to see the screen when he turns it towards me and wants to know where what he was looking at went, lol

I'm waiting impatiently for that suspected pure Google 7 inch tablet coming later this year...really impatiently...
And re: weather - folks, this is why I live in south FL. *shudder* I did one winter in Burlington, Vermont. It was a really, really cool little town, but it was a really, really cold little town too...I will stay in the FL sunshine and you guys can have ALL the snow! It's going to be 86 here today.

I agree with BB, sue them. At the very least, go talk to a lawyer, because I'm fairly certain it's illegal for them to disclose your salary like that, if nothing else.

It's a little bit tricky because I do work for a Federal agency and the newspaper filed the request under the Freedom of Information act. I still do not think that gives them the right to that type of information for every employee of the company. Public officials and highers ups, yes, but regular employees?? No. Complete invasion of privacy.

Agreed on both points this morning.
I'd definitely see a lawyer first and explain the situation. See what your options are before doing anything too drastic. Why would they do that though? Makes no sense to me - is it a large company?
Also I agree that 7" and 10" are definitely too different markets. I love the 7" as am ereader although I'm sure the 10" is fine at it I feel the 7" is more the size of an actual book. I'm really digging the playbook so far though.

It's a very large company. About 12,000 employees.

I used to love to bowl, candlepin though, not ten pin. Let's see how many folks know what I am talking about.

I work in local government and my salary is published in the Town Report every year. That gets handed out at Town Meeting and is available year round in the town hall. Its unfortunate, but you get used to it. I should say, it is only gross pay, no tax or deduction information.
Yeah, I'm just above the T where CT and RI come together. It seems we are always on "the line."
Well, it's officially turned completely into rain. Been raining all night, in fact, and still going strong with wind. All the snow from yesterday is gone.

I can see that being unfortunate, but on the bright side, its very hard to be underpaid on an individual basis in that situation. You know where you are relative to your coworkers.
svt - As far as a private government contractor releasing pay info via a FOIA request, sounds like somebody screwed up big time.

That's the thing though...I don't work in government. Complicated situation.

Was 71 on my way into work this morning. Was cloudy all night, which explains the warm morning. Rain looks like it is going to stay north of us though.

(Used to work as a newspaper carrier for 10yrs as a second job....habit now, but I do my best work after my first cup of coffee in the am)
Morning all. Have a great day!!

Not a contractor, but not really government either. Personally, my job requires a security clearance since I work at a nuclear facility. Other employees do not require such.

Yeah I just remembered you said you worked at a nuke plant. That is even worse, the company may have just violated homeland security protocols too, it may be much worse for them than just privacy lawsuits...

Yeah, I don't know what all they just violated, but I know it violated my privacy.
See what I mean by government but not really now? haha Every other generating facility in the US (as far as I know) is owned and operated by a private corporation. Would never happen there. But because mine was enacted by FDR and still "controlled" by the government, I am a government employee and subject to the Freedom of Information Act???

Your situation sucks. First stop would be HR and ask to see your start paperwork. I will lay even money that there is a clause buried in there that you waive privacy. Were you in the purely private sector, I would guess you have a claim for invasion of privacy. I'm just not sure about quasi-government agencies or gov't contractors though.
In the legal world, there are actually websites started by young associates that traffic in salary information. As a youngster, we used to conspire with associates at other firms to make sure we were paid the "going rate."

I love bowling -- actually going to practice tonight.
Bowled for my school in college. I have so many 279's its not even funny -- still can't get that 300 under my belt though. I used to bowl 5-6 days a week in college and sometimes I really miss it.
I think my great grandfather told me something about that
lol...

My highest was a 189, but that was in candlepin. A good average there is 120-130.
