Hey y'all. Great posts today all around!

May the knee surgery go well.

Got a lovely new avi, as always, in the wild.

I was ticked off about Lucas burning stuff and then I got joke...

And now, let's talk about HTC and Samsung X and Nexus:

I love my NPrime. I am sure if I had an upgrade I would pass my Nexus to the wife, but if, and only if it was the latest Verizon Nexus (read: unicorn device).

After rooting 4 previous phones to get a near stock build of Android, I will be very hard pressed to get anything but a Nexus. And I won't switch carriers unless some other offers something comparable to my plan price vs features. I have 3 phones familied, unlimited data and text (2 smartphones; no data or text on dumbphone), 1400 min, insured smartphones for under 170.

Lastly, I think Sense is ugly and still bloated. I can't believe HTC didn't, at minimum, use the color theme of ICS. It may be that blue is my favorite color??? I really do love HTC's hardware and dev support but man I love Stock Android out of the box!

Honestly, the Nexus is overkill for what I do, haha.
Ditto. The thing that bothered me most was the hard buttons. I love the fact on my GNex I can change, reduce or even remove navigation buttons.

I also don't understand the "thinner is better" when battery life is still below 24 hours of normal use. Give me a little thicker phone with a bigger battery.

I hate it when I buy something and then a month later something better comes along that makes me drool. Eventually there will be a new phone that I will "need", but we're approaching 4 months now and nothing is close to tempting me to upgrade.

By January/February of next year I wouldn't be surprised to see there something to tempt BB. (Not that I think she's the sort to fall for life's temptations)

If there are any THE DARK TOWER series fans there is a new book coming out this month. This one will go in-between books 4 and 5. It is titled THE WIND THROUGH THE KEYHOLE. Also, there is a sequel to THE SHINING coming out. It is titled DOCTOR SLEEP.

Somethings gotta go...
Droid X
or
Xoom

Both have service, but neither gets used outside the house and with unlimited 4g tethering on my Nexus, kind of a moot point (and waste of cash) to have the other two lines sitting around the house. The Xoom was to use during storm chasing season while at work or if I was actually chasing.

The xoom or macbook pro can be tethered to my Nexus. The only issue I see is the occasional radio glitch with my data on the Nexus. If I had the droidx and my nexus radio "burped" during tracking a storm, that would not be good, more so if I was chasing the sucker.

Both the xoom and droidx contracts end a couple months apart, in 2013. I figure if nothing else, my sister has an iPhone 4s with tethering if the network is being goofy.

Hmmm..
Droid x or Xoom. Both probably need to go but the ETFs are going to be a bit steep.

Hey everyone! Surgery went great, she's already hobbling around without crutches. Which is good, because with three kids, we couldn't afford a long recovery.

I have to say, the HTC One X looks awesome, and my fondness for Sense will be tempting. But thankfully it looks like not coming to Verizon, and I'm stuck here... So first post GNex temptation will pass

Hey y'all. Can I ask a question?

Why is it that when you get married and start a family, there is always that friend that just doesn't get how life changing it all is? I have this buddy who I used to party with and jam with back in my early 20s. I will be 30 in June and as most of you know I am married and have a 17 month old with more hair on his head than Cousin It! And because my wife and I only let close family babysit, we hardly have a social life (and we are okay with that, for now). But my buddy doesn't get it. He think I can just drop my son off somewhere and go drink beers, smoke a joint and play music whenever he wants me to. Anyway, I am just venting because I had to tell him this today and I don't think he took it well.

We all have one of those. It sucks because you can see the friendship slowly growing apart and there's nothing you can do. I hope he sticks it out and learns to understand it though.

Until I had my own child, I didn't understand that protective instinct that a parent has. Don't get too peeved at your buddy. Just let him know that your son is king now. Someday, he will have a child and he'll understand.

And then there's the other side of the coin. The parents that bring their infant everywhere, no matter how inappropriate, and park him/her in the stroller in the back corner of the [fill in the blank, e.g., bar, pool hall, etc.].

Glad you're one of the good ones.

alrighty then....
Save The Dates have been printed and will be mailed this week. Finally got it all working after 3 days of printers malfunctioning....frustrating when I am the tech guy...and supposed to just fix it all....anyways....
Going to see hunger games tomorrow night with my better half, her mom and sister. Looking forward to that.
Hope everyone is over their Monday!!!
Today at work we had a nice breakthrough on a year + old project and got several rounds of thanks and good jobs from people. That's always nice to hear!!
See you all on the flipside.....

Morning everyone!
Ryan, Save the Dates are a lot of fun. I loved the ones we did (I could probably take a pic of one later today). A good friend of ours also hand wrote, in beautiful calligraphy, the envelopes for all the invitations. That was her wedding gift to us. Is it getting maddening yet?

Good Morning all, well this morning, my Mcafee detected a virous on the Nexie. It is Android/generic 40dbe2ab6921!dex. Anyone have any ideas? Is it safe to remove it?

Ha, I read that too quickly and saw "McCafe" and thought it was really weird that your coffee would detect a virus?

Haha, More details: McAfee updated the virus definitions this am and then scanned. That is when it detected this puppy. On further examination, it says it has infected 4 places and it appears the infection has been there since February and only found today since the new definitions. It looks like it is based in Package: SuperUser (/system/app/superuser.apklclasses.dex) is infected. It also says Clockwordmod, and the su.zip for Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.siplsystem/app/superuser.apklclasses.dex

Admitedly, I am lost, here is a link to a similar issue withAVG, does this mean it is safe?

Good morning everyone! Pretty nice out today except for the wind.

Had breakfast at home today (trying to save money on eating breakfast and lunch) and it feels weird not eating breakfast at work today. Gonna go grab a big bottle of water for now cause I am trying to force myself to drink more water lately. Need to just grab one of those plastic-y bottles.

Also some lulz for the morning.

Interesting article about Google wallet and the internal struggles in the ranks about where the program is going....and who is still with Google.

I highly doubt that its anything to worry about. I am by no means an expert on that though.

Sorry....I'm just not sure. I googled the filename, but it didn't find any hits, which is probably a good sign I would think? You might want to contact McAfee and ask them...they usually are pretty responsive, and don't like 'false positives'.

Looks like everyone is up and running today. Personally I've got a ton of yard and paper work to get done before leaving again Thursday for two weeks

Someone recently pointed me in the direction of this card: Starwood Hotel Rewards Card Bonus up to 25,000 Bonus Starpoints with Starwood Hotel Credit Card Rewards | MaximizingMoney.com

I currently have an American Express Blue Cashback and my Visa +1 Student card and they are both pretty good. Nothing to write home about so I am actually looking for something different to start getting some good rewards with.

The Amex Blue Cash Preferred (which I am preapproved for once a week) is $75 a year but doubles the cash back of the regular card so I need to do some math to see if its worth it.

I just got done looking at that Blue Cash Preferred. Looks good but that annual fee is a deal breaker for me. I won't use it for anything other than work travel more than likely just to keep my bank account from taking the hit up front before I get reimbursed. They used to provide everyone with a card but now you only get one if you travel a lot, which I don't...maybe 2-3 times per year. But if I can earn a flight or a few hundred bucks based on what I spend for work every couple of years it'd be worth the hassle of a credit card. I don't own a single one right now.

I use my CC for pretty much everything but I pay it off once or twice a month. I use to carry a small balance because I read by doing so would help your credit score, but recently they said the algorithms have changed and its better to be paid off completely monthly so that's what I do. I just use it to get rewards and points my checking account doesn't offer.

Check out the one I linked above and then this is a good site for some reviews. Also this site is some really good reviews by people who actually use those cards. Best Credit Card Deals: 5000+ Reviews & Offers | Credit Card Forum

I got the same message on my rooted galaxy nexus this morning. As a quick test I uninstalled mcafee and installed lookout. A scan of the phone revealed no malware/spyware. I'm guessing/hoping it's a mcafee false positive. I also wrote the "su" developer about this to get his opinion.

People still use Mcafee? Ugh what an awful program.

Lookout on the phone and Microsoft Security Essentials on the PC. No other worries ever.

Thanks for the Bday wishes! I get the day off to help the wifey. Of course that means I will be waiting on her hand and foot on MY birthday, but oh well. Maybe she will return the favor on hers?

Welcome to the forums and our nutjob thread we got here!

I don't use any anti-virus app at all. Android is based on Linux and it's proven time and again, it is very difficult to infect and/or hacked. The biggest thing is only install apps that you trust from devs. and you should be fine.

Default I KNEW this was a BAD idea

So, I finally unlocked, then decided "What the heck, I am going to try a ROM for just once in my life" - so I booted into clockwork, applied the newest liquid plus extras, and now my phone is sitting forever at the liquid boot animation and wont do anything else.

I just killed my Nexus didnt I??

I should have known that I am too stupid to even try this stuff.

Let's review the steps to make sure nothing bad happened.

You downloaded Liquid and Gapps (which I assume is in Extras? Never used Liquid before). Then you unlocked the phone via fastboot oem unlock, correct? Then you booted into Clockword recovery and flashed Liquid and the other package via Clockwork?

Now its just sitting at boot animation?

Are these steps any different than what you did? How to: Root the Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE, Flash a Custom Recovery and Make a Backup [Verizon] – Droid Life

Yup exactly.

You should unlock the phone, THEN push su.zip to the phone. Then you reboot into the bootloader and apply Clockwork.

Thats what I did, now I am stuck at the liquid boot animation. I am going to go back into clockwork and do a factory wipe, if that doesnt fix it, then I assume I am toast?
