Let me tell ya, it's a very eerie sound when they do the on-site emergency siren test here.

Today makes 6 days of my app in the iOS store "Waiting for Review" - what a difference between iOS and Android.

That's if it gets accepted.

I guess my biggest gripe is that if it gets rejected for any reason it goes back to the end of the line and you have to wait around 7-8 days for it to be re-reviewed.

I assumed acceptance. I'm not a dev as you know, but I have seen some of the out there rejections devs have mentioned from Apple. Seems like your only potential issue would be the WW angle.

Afternoon all. Pretty busy here today, haven't been able to duck my head in.

The girlfriend and I are throwing her parents a surprise 30th anniversary party next weekend, so we spent all Saturday and Sunday getting ready for it, making decorations, etc. She's been planning it for a few months now, plotting with her brothers and other relatives. Hopefully it goes well.

Well, the rain just kicked in here. Second day in a row of gloomy weather. Oh well, we need it bad, and I am working. I just wish I still had my old seat (2nd floor window) to watch it roll it.

Which reminds me, hurricane season starts in a little over two weeks. I am kind of a nut about following them, they fascinate me, and I always find myself wishing the weak ones would come near. (TS and Cat 1s, Cat 2+ Stay the hell away though). I have been through quite a few, but thankfully all were either not a direct hit, or were weak storms to begin with, and I am not crazy enough to ignore an evacuation order. Anyone else fascinated by them as I am?

I'm absolutely enthralled by hurricanes and tornados both. I find myself obsessively checking the Weather Channel during hurricane season and rooting for those Cat 2 and 3 hurricanes to make that jump to a cat 5...but stay away from land, you know. I've been through a couple but they are all weakened pretty badly and disorganized by the time they got to me. Katrina was still pretty stout when she passed through, but not up to the cat 5 status she was just before landfall.

Edit: BTW First tropical depression of the season today.

Not when they mention that they aren't able to monetize mobile platforms.

Plus, I used to go on and scroll through pages and pages of posts from the few friends / family I have on there but now there are likely fewer than 20 new posts a day. I think even my technologically illiterate family is tiring of them constantly tweaking the order of the feeds (when we really just want newest to oldest, not what FB thinks we want to read at the top), sharing stuff we don't want shared, etc. I don't think I've posted anything there in months. Just log in from time to time.

About the same for me. My wife is pretty active, but more for chat than the classic wall posting, etc.

Heck no! First, economics: by the time the Class A shares are sold out to the big $$$ investors and the common stock is all that's left for the rest of us peons, it's not going to be worth a lot. Besides: I agree that it's overpriced, overvalued and over-hyped. People will get all excited, buy high and sell low. Bad way to win in the market.

Second, sheer patriotism: I will not contribute a DIME to some goobah who has already said he'll renounce his U.S. citizenship just before the IPO... to save on taxes. I pay MY fair share of taxes... what does a guy standing to make 5 or 6 Billion dollars care about a few taxes on money he simply "earned" by being in the right place at the right time? I'm not an occupier or a "tax the rich" guy (I've never been hired by a poor person), but everyone who lives here (or makes money here) needs to contribute to the cause, IMHO. Quitters don't impress me.

Third: I think facebook is almost at the top of its game. Sure, the app market is coming, crossing all platforms. But with a BILLION users already on it... how much growth potential does it really have? At best, it'll be a good growth stock (once the IPO hype settles down). But I hope no one expects to make millions on FB stock.

My 0.02

Morning, all!

Found my battery to be almost half zapped after charging before bed last night. Not sure if its the new radios or the internet went down overnight or what. Had a handful of apps running in the background, one being google music. It was the "recent app list" so not sure if thats the case or what.

Another thought on the FB stock, aren't they selling share's with reduced voting rights. I believe that Zuckergerg (sp) could own a minority share of the company yet still have the majority vote. That kind of defeats the checks and balances a bit.

Hurricane season is kind of a big deal in my business (insurance). Irene cost my company millions in property damage, most of which was in New England rather than Florida as we would typically expect. As long as we don't get significant damage, I find hurricanes fascinating as well. Since we have a whole house generator, hurricanes usually mean our house is full with friends, their kid and their pets, etc. and we turn it into a party. On the down side, as a public servant, my hubby usually has to work for 4-5 days straight until the city returns to some sort of normalcy after the hurricane passes.

Yep, mee too. The money traffic (on the web) is declining, while mobile (poorly monetized) is growing. I've seen it myself that there is less traffic on there in general. There have been rumbles about them adding ads to the feed in order to better monetize mobile users, but I suspect that will further drive users away.

I've heard that as well. Also heard of something they're going to do called pay to promote or something like that where users pay to make their posts more visible. Maybe that's the same thing you were thinking about, but I took it as they were going to allow normal users to pay a small fee that would make their post(s) more prominent on friends' feeds. Which I think is ridiculous if true. But like you said, the second that start putting ads in the feeds will be when they drive users away and that's soon going to be the only way to add revenue because mobile web use is taking over.

Hmm, interesting, so pretty soon the most obnoxious users (you have to be an obnoxious user to pay to have your posts upgraded) and businesses will buy the top spots in my feed? Sounds like a good excuse to cleanse my friends list.

Yeah, the people I'd want to hear from I can't, and the obnoxious ones won't shut up.

Sounds like a good excuse for me to finally leave facebook. This and the fact that one of them renounced their US citizenship to skip out on taxes. May just decide to deactivate my account for good on public IPO day.

WOW!! ROFL!!! That's hilarious. "lack of traction"

"The commercial, which has garnered more than two million views on YouTube, closes with the slogan, "Whatever you do in bed, Sealy supports it.""

It isn't so much that it is difficult, he said. "It's just that coils give you bounce, which you don't get on memory foam. It's a lot more physically intense because you're not getting any help from the bed."

So, in conclusion you need two beds in your room. One for sex and the other for sleep and you're good!!!

So, I saw this article and I didn't get the smart answer. I don't know how you come to the analytical answer. Someone please enlighten me.

Your answer to the following riddle can predict whether you are a believer in religion or a disbeliever:

Q: If a baseball and bat cost $110, and the bat costs $100 more than the ball, how much does the ball cost?

The riddle is easy enough, how does it predict whether you are religious or not?

No clue. I'm a very analytical person but also am a Christian (I refuse to say religious, that gets you nothing..you can be religious about watching pr0n). I don't know how anyone could come up with $5.

Yeah, I don't get that either - how can you get an answer of $5?

EDIT: Never mind, here it is:

I agree, I got it right, but am also very religious. I still went about my decision in an analytical way. I look at everything on Earth and in the Universe, and think, there is no WAY this is random.

Oh, I forgot to mention. A family member who is also an Android fan is now gainfully employed at a VZW store (he has been working at Walmart selling phones for a few years now). He, um, offered to let me know if anything comes up that might be of interest to me.

I would be remiss if I didn't share that with my like minded friends.

Sweet! Inside sources are always appreciated. I miss the days of "The Source". Remember the chaos after those little tidbits? Good times.

Hahaha. Did we ever find out who The Source was? Just an insider that Steven knows?

I'll get him to join with a username that doesn't identify him in RL in case he wants to share directly.
