RIP Ray Bradbury. One of America's most prolific science fiction writers, dead at 91.
He was a master, leading the way for all sci-fi writers and filmmakers.
He was also a warm and kind man. I spoke to him twice, some 45 years apart. Once as a 5th grader, cold-called him (he was listed in the phone book!) to ask him about his book that we were studying in school. I must have sounded like an idiot asking about symbolism and foreshadowing. He was amazingly welcoming and helpful. I had purchased his entire collection (paperback was all I could afford) and he personalized each one. Still on my bookshelf today. Then again I spoke to him two years ago, he was still kind and astute but his speech was suffering from the effects of a stroke. So sad. Huge loss for the literary world.

Also (double post), but Google has its OWN planes - that's crazy.
Q from PCMag: "Are you using your own planes? Is Google investing in 3D-view planes -- and how are you going to address privacy issues?"
Brian: "Yes, in fact Google does have a fleet of planes with contractors that fly exclusively for Google. And the privacy issues is no different than we've had with aerial shots for years."

So not a bad event at all.
Some amazing things going down in the Maps department. Curious to see what happens when this comes to Android, but I don't think Apple can do anything better than Google Maps in iOS. Google just took a huge lead over any current or future mapping solution. The generating 3D models from flights is absolutely ridiculous.

I can't imagine being able to do that in large scale. And the quick mention of being able to pinpoint things by combining the 3D & 2D imagery, crazy.
I was watching it and did a check on my desktop google earth for an update, but alas, no.
Doing research this morning on a new device and possible new carrier.
I am split between the 4g LTE note (AT&T) and the razr maxx, But I read the maxx has some data issues as well (but don't seem to be as wide spread) and the note, well its a GSM device and I have not used AT&T, but I would likely buy it strait out and go month to month. I really wish big red had this thing.
Flip a coin I guess.

I haven't held one, but they seem too big to be a phone and too small to be a tablet.

Okay folks, have any of you ordered a phone online and kept your unlimited data?
Verizon CSR told me to go ahead and pick a data package to pre-order (for the Darling Bride) and it is NOT a valid choice until I actually activate the phone. She also said DO NOT activate from the phone, but rather call in and have it activated by Verizon in order to keep the unlimited data.
Sounds a little on the fishy side, but there's really no other way to do it.
Is that how it works? I don't want her losing a really good plan here...
I ordered my GNex online from VZW, and at the time they made it real confusing on on the choose plan page. I was able to keep my unlimited, but you need to read that page carefully.

Actually, "unlimited" is ON the page as a selectable plan! The CSR Debbie said that all I have to do is call in to activate - DO NOT activate by phone - and the $9.99 promo plan will stay in place.
EDIT: DANG IT THEY'RE SOLD OUT of Galaxy S3s!

Yeah it's cool alright. Now watch this: by the time the SGS3 hits stores next month and we can actually GET one, VZW will have instituted the family data buckets.
I will be pi$$ed beyond words.
EDIT: I tried it again and IT WENT THROUGH!
It even had "unlimited data" as a data option!
Darling Bride is going to be one happy camper when she finally retires her OG Droid...

Alright people, I'm talking to myself here.
TWO HOURS without a post? On a Wednesday? Did I miss the Apocalypse or something?
Hi Chief! Hi Chief! Congrats on the wife's SGS3! Yeah, I think she's gonna like it: that Droid really needs to retire. Do tell - I had one of those myself! Yeah I remember her fondly... name was Droidette or "D" for short. Yeah, Ginny is so much nicer with 4G and all. Oh well, nice talking to you, time to chill elsewhere... take care! Okay Chief, I'll turn out the lights on the Watering Hole as I leave...

Ha!!! I laughed at this.
I had a busy day trying to make sure NJ had all the info they needed and certifying my unemployment. And took Mom to the craft store and had lunch too. We have a great kosher deli by us that makes phenomenal Pastrami Sandwiches, Matzah Ball soup and has a pickle bar with 'new pickles' which are my absolute favorite kind.
Wow BB, it's like you are the BB of old, multi quotes and a "That's what she said! "
We need to hit 15k more often!
Well, I am three days away from the end of my 12 week exercise and weight loss competition at work. I am 2 lbs from my goal. I know it's a stretch, but I'm going for it. Wish me luck.
Hey everyone. Been a long time since I was in here. Life got crazy. Sorry you had to resort to talking to yourself Chief but reading that post made my day! Congrats on the great phone/data deal for your wifey.
G'night all.

And good luck!! I think you can do it. It might be hard but you've worked really hard for 11 1/2 weeks and another 3 days is completely doable. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Haha, I am being sparing on my use of Nexie tonight. Power has been out for about four hours and I was about 20 percent when it went out. I do have my backup battery pack charger and that will get me two full charges. Storm is still carrying on in Big D. Be safe everyone!

Morning everyone!
AJ, a friend of mine went from a 3GS to a Note, so the size difference was even that much more. Only took her a few days to get used to it and she loves it (and loves Android too!). I'd still wait for the SGS3 to come out to compare.
Got my Flyer back yesterday (one week turn around from HTC, damn!). Was interesting to see HC on it. I actually prefer GB that it was, but this is fine. Not sure it's going to get a ton of use, but for $99, I'm happy with it.

Morning all! Just put a roast in the slow cooker, yum.
So anyone have any interesting weekend plans? I am home alone with the baby, as my wife takes the older two to Daytona for the annual girls weekend at the beach.
