We had talked about getting it done for a while, and it's much easier for the man than the woman, so I had it done. It was simple and quick with a fast recovery.
Was it painful during the procedure, and did they use a scalpel, or was it non-scalpel?

I made the mistake of watching a video of the procedure and I can honestly say that I'm freaked.

I thought about it, but we are looking into adopting in a couple of years, depending on our finances, so I don't see the need. We figure if we do decide to have children later on, why not help out a child that would otherwise have a crappy life? Probably from another country.

Required out of context - that's what she said.

BTW it is in fact, what she said.

She's had a couple really rough last couple weeks of work and I know she'll appreciate losing some of the tension.
My wife prefers deep tissue as well...weird. I prefer a firm pressure relaxing massage with some hot stone work incorporated in there as well.

In our case, no. We decided very early on in our relationship that we didn't want kids. Those feelings never changed and since my wife was tired of popping a pill every morning for years upon years, we made the decision to make it permanent.

We have a lot of trouble sometimes explaining to people that we LIKE kids... we don't eat them or anything... we just didn't want any of our own. Some have even told us we were "selfish" for not having children. And our answer is, "Don't you think it's more selfish to have children when we don't want any because YOU want us to have one?" You can usually insert an uncomfortable silence after that question and people usually change the subject.

Lucky, I agree with you. I really don't want to have kids. I see these idiots at work who run around and scream and throw their food everywhere and I shiver (sorry for those who love em!). We have family friends who are pretty much in the same boat. They, and I, can handle them in small doses like my nephews and nieces, but as a permanent part of your life, I can't fathom that at this point.
Maybe I just need to grow up!

That's disappointing that someone would call you selfish, and I must say, you have an excellent reply.

I agree. If you don't want kids, you don't want them. No need for someone else to be upset by that. You could argue the opposite, they are selfish for wanting kids and contributing to the overpopulation of the earth Different strokes for different folks. Some people can't understand that.

We don't want kids now but we desperately want a dog.
Free/non work time is at a premium though so I know it'd be difficult. If we can't devote enough attention and love to a pet, there's no way we'd consider kids.

I made the mistake of watching a video of the procedure and I can honestly say that I'm freaked.

This is the way it worked for me:

1. Go to urologist with wife, tell her what we want.
2. Get asked the question, are you both sure this is what you want, and we told her that yes, this is what we both want.
3. Get appointment scheduled, and get a prescription for 1 Xanax.
4. Thirty minutes before getting to the office, pop the Xanax. I need to stress that this has to be the biggest pill I have ever seen in my life.
5. Pull over 10 minutes after taking largest Xanax pill I've ever seen as I suddenly realize I'm in no condition to drive.
6. Listen to wife say, I told you so, as we pull away from the curb with her now driving.
7. Realize I don't care that the wife is saying that she told me so.
8. Get to the office, and go into the room to have the procedure done. Strip to nothing below the waist.
9. Sit in chair and put my feet up in stirrups. Suddenly realize that there are 4-5 strangers operating on me while I'm naked below the waist. Also realize that I really don't care.
10. After 45 minutes, it's done. Doc reminds me that I can walk normally with a smile on her face. Wife tells me I'm walking like a cowboy after a long horseback ride on the range.

But seriously, yes, she used a scalpel and no, there was no pain at all. There was a bit of discomfort but no pain. I took it easy for about 3-4 days and was back to normal after that.

Never taken a Xanex, but Valium was great to take before I got my wisdom teeth out. I felt like a drunken sailor in about 15 min.
Be sure to get something as Lucky described, it's not so much the pain (if there is any) as the exposure.

Edit: and I've seen our lady posters have been surprisingly absent in this discussion.

You had a female urologist??? Hmmm, may have to go on the terms/conditions of the wife and I's agreement...I mean she gets a male gyno, it's only fair right? lol

It is strange that all the women left isn't it.

I'm glad my urologist is male. They know what they're doing. When I went in for the consult, I had the assistant, a woman named Misty who, for some reason, chose to wear a short skirt and a low cut top that revealed an ample set of hills. Fortunately for me, the sheer terror of the whole experience made good old Johnny shrink like a frightened turtle. But at one point, she wanted to locate the vas deferens, and squeezed my marbles quite painfully. It made me think that she was a man-hater, honestly. She located one, after much squeezing, and couldn't locate the other. She called in the male urologist (who will be doing the surgery), and he found both within literally 20 seconds, and barely squeezed at all.

My marbles hurt the whole way home. It's such a terrible feeling. Don't know if any of you guys have ever gotten kicked in the jewels, but that pain is like no other and radiates into your abdomen for a long time. It wasn't quite that bad, but near enough.

For haircuts and other medical procedures, though, I definitely enjoy a woman's more gentle touch. I always like to get my hair washed when I get it cut (one of the top 10 most pleasurable, non sexual experiences in life), but I won't do it if it's a guy.

I'm not old enough for prostate exams yet, but when I do, I don't think I would like a guy to do it either.

Haha, was certainly joking, but like Han said, the sheer terror of what I was being examined for would make that a non-issue I'm sure. There's pros and cons to each...women are generally more gentle but men know that area and the pain that can be caused by one false move or too much squeezing.

I also agree with Han on the washing/scalp massage after a haircut. Second only to a good full body massage, lol. The first time I got a wash after a cut I was still in college on my way home for a visit and stopped in to get a cut at one of those places in the mall. Some Russian lady was there and insisted she wash my hair after the cut. Wouldn't take no for an answer. Pretty sure she was trying to seduce me and if she had pushed the issue during the wash, she probably could have had her way with me. LOL

Han, this is getting out of control!
I remember in high school a classmate getting nailed with a soccer ball in his "marbles". They had to ice him down for a while. Can't imagine what the pain is like.

Cats are almost like kids to me. I like em, but really just in small doses. They really can't bring the love and joy that a dog can to me.
Wife absolutely hates cats though. Well she likes this one:

The first few times I got my hair washed after a cut, the stylist intentionally scrubbed hard. I thought for the longest time that I was washing my hair wrong, and was supposed to scrub, but then the next time (all at different places), it was like heaven. I asked the stylist about it, and she said some places train their women stylists to do that in order to prevent harassment. I said most men aren't like that, and the most it would do is probably end up in a big tip for her. She laughed so hard, and then I realized what I had said. Man was my face red in that mirror!

Priceless!

I went back to that on place several more times over the next couple of years and every time I got the Russian lady she would remember me and say "I wash your hair." after she finished the cut. Wasn't a question, just a statement of fact. She was going to wash my hair.

lol. I've never had a hard scrubber. It's just wonderful. I just close my eyes and I'm in total bliss. One time it actually made me remember being washed as a baby by my mother. Seriously. I distinctly remembered being washed with warm water in the frakking kitchen sink! A couple of days later I asked my mom about it and she was shocked that I could remember that. I was a freaking baby! I told my wife about it and she just looked at me like I had two heads.

Last time I had a hair cut, I had my eyes closed (I always do) as she was cutting, and I heard her cry out and a loud thud. Turns out she slipped and fell while circling around.

Damn close call. Fortunately she didn't nip off a piece of my ear on her way down.

She quit? Who's going to be our source for the next Nexus pre-release thread??

Maybe I just need to grow up!
When I was younger, I really thought I wanted kids. I even had it planned - twin girls, and an older son to watch out for them. However, as I get a little older, I'm quickly beginning to realize that three kids would be an incredibly tough assignment. Also, I'm fairly sure that if I had a girl (or girls), that I would be one of those super crazy fathers who threatened every boy who set foot near them. I've been really re-thinking the whole kids thing lately.

Hi folks!

Well the SGS3 thread is alight with BAD news:

Quote:
I just got off the phone with Verizon, seeing if I could still order a Galaxy S3 and be able to keep my unlimited data plan. I was informed that any subsidized phone activated on the account after their share data plans go into effect (June 28th) will lose unlimited data. I asked what about all the people who preordered the SGS3 to safeguard their unlimited data (phones expected to ship July 1st), & was told they will lose it, since the phone can't be activated until 3 days after the share data plans go into effect.

That is how Verizon is getting a bunch of people off of unlimited data plans, and a particularly back door & s****y way to do it. So for anyone that has unlimited data & has preordered the Galaxy S3, you better call Verizon & find out for yourself if you need to cancel your order.
Others are saying their CSRs told them that the pre-order was the lock, and unlimited data was assured. I just emailed Verizon to clarify.

I it means losing our unlimited plans and getting dumped into a family bucket, I WILL cancel the pre-order and pay full retail for a phone for the Darling Bride. It will actually save us money.

I'll let you know what Verizon's e-mail tells me.

Ugh, pisses me off. If we stay in DC, it's possible we may dump Verizon when our next upgrade comes up. Conversely, the share plan isn't SO terrible.

Thanks for the positive words, everyone. It's nice being part of such a great community that respects one another. We decided not to have kids and that was our decision to make, and we both know it's the right decision. It's pretty amazing how many people disagree with our decision. And some people just won't leave it alone... "When are you having kids?" Ummm, we're not. "You should have them!" We don't want them. "But you should have them!" I want my wife to start crying and run out of the room screaming, "I"m barren!" or something to that effect, but she won't do it. Not like I want to make light of that very serious/real condition that some families do actually face, but I want to do those things to get people to just... leave... us... alone. My wife just tells everyone we have "furry babies" (three cats and a dog) but that response usually illicits an eye-roll from the other person. At least they change the subject after that.

I'll never forget this one encounter: I'm standing in line at the grocery store on my way home, and someone turns around to say hello to me. It was someone that used to work at the bank I worked at, and I hadn't seen her in years. One of the first things out of her mouth was, "How many kids do you have?!" I told her none. She asked when we were going to start a family? I said we're not, we don't want kids. She said we "needed a few kids" and I politely told her that no, we don't. She insisted that we needed not one, but several children. I couldn't take it anymore so I said, "Can I have your phone number?" She was about to ask me why when I continued, "So when this baby that we don't want, but you think we need, needs a diaper change in the the middle of the night, I can call you to come over and assist?" Her expression dropped, and she turned around and didn't say another word to me. I mean, I hated that it came to that, but what choice did I have?

Anyway, Han, there's really nothing to it. As dreadnatty08 said, the Xanax was more for the anxiety than pain. And it worked, because I realy didn't care. You could have set me on fire at that point and I wouldn't have cared. They used a local and aside from a little discomfort as they worked, there was no pain.

And I didn't mind the female urologist. She came highly recommended from my regular doctor. She was super nice and had a great sense of humor. She left the practice a few years ago to move closer to her family and I was sad because she was really cool.

haha, I have no comment. I'm not in any form of a serious relationship, so this isn't something I think much about. Though it was interesting to read what men had to say about such topic. Kudos to those that are willing to mutilate themselves all to pleasure their beloved wives and make their wives' lives easier, lol

Lucky, wow for opening up to us. If this happened in Rocky Mount, I'm not surprised (I lived in Hickory, NC for a while). Regional differences of Americans are pretty incredible. I think, for the most part, city folk handle childlessness much better. At least in DC, we're still one of the few married couples at only 26. All of our friends are older and aren't married. I always say stand tall for your beliefs and don't let anyone else get to you!

Haha, he was being sarcastic Chief

Yeah it looks like it was a case of two clueless CSRs that said GS3 pre-orders would lose unlimited... It wasn't true.

I know, I was being sarcastic. I was looking at the press release with the pricing and announced launch date while on the phone with the woman. I wanted to know what the bill would be with my discounts and she spouted off they didn't even know prices or a launch date yet but it should be the end of the year, lol. I tried correcting her and she interrupted me and basically said she was right and I was wrong.

Ok, I'm now caught up. Had to run errands and go to my part time job and get my 401K rollover started.
I commend anyone who has this done, whether its for personal preference of not wanting kids, not wanting kids due to medical reasons or having it done because you don't want any more offspring. It is a highly personal decision for couples and I am honored that some of you have shared your stories.
I fall into the category of medical issues if I were to get pregnant again. I was diagnosed with MS after Ann and my doctor said I'd have an even harder time recovering from another pregnancy so a neutering of either me or my other half would be in my future.

Icon tag says "smoking sombrero" which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Maybe interpret it as a statement made while in a pot-induced stupor?

Oh...

We had 6 at one point... brother/sister (our two original), and then a mama with three kittens. The mama wanted very much to be outside, and we didn't realize it until we started letting her out. Her behavior changed very much so for the better, that is until she was denied to go out and then it was 10 times worse. We let her out one evening and she never came back. Happy thoughts are that she got adoped by another family. Reality is that something probably got her. Hope that's not the case but if so, I can only hope it was quick and painless.

We had to put our two original cats to sleep last year. I hope I never have to do that again as that was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. Scarlett first, then 6 weeks later her brother, Samson. They were both on the verge of 17 years old and their health declined very rapidly. We had them for 11 years (adopted them from my sister). Tore me up and devastated my wife.

So we're "down" to three cats (the mama's "babies" but they are 7 years old), and a dog. To end on a much happier note, they all get along fantastically and I couldn't ask for better pets. They are all loving, in excellent health, and they aren't in the least bit destructive. I was worried when we got a leather couch last year but aside from the occasional scratch here and there, the Zoo hasn't bothered it in the least.

I'd like another dog, but I don't want to send my wife to the Funny Farm. Three cats, one dog, and two freshwater fish tanks are just about all we can handle!!

They, and I, can handle them in small doses like my nephews and nieces, but as a permanent part of your life, I can't fathom that at this point.
Maybe I just need to grow up!

I agree with both of you. It takes more of an adult to be honest with yourself that kids just aren't for you and not cave to the pressure society places on us to procreate.

I am getting a cat though so that's exciting. He's adorable and his name is Shadow.

SO cute, I may need some insulin.

Wow. Missed a busy day here.(Damn lawyers, I should have been sneaking into here instead of listening to them drone)

Anyway, in regards to getting snipped. Did it with just a local and had no problem, but the Xanax sounds like a great option.

For those of you that got snipped cuz you don't want kids I applaude you, but those of you thinking about it - I didn't want any either until my 30s and then all of a sudden I REALLY wanted one. Just saying... That said, never feel guilty about not having children.
