You & I have a lot in common, Lucky. High School was the absolute worst four years of my life. I would NEVER go back to that.
I was very fat in high school. Had big hair. I was picked on incessantly. I ended up being the biggest "geek" in the school: when the geeks got tired of being picked on, they came and picked on me. I was what they would refer to as the school loser.
They're planning some sort of whole school reunion thing (since the school was closed shortly after I graduated), and I am delicately trying to balance my disdain for all things high school with the idea of going back to those idiots - many of whom have probably never left Georgia - and showing them how well I turned out... despite their best attempts to utterly destroy my psyche.
I was also a nerd, but I only dealt with the cruel treatment in Middle School, I moved at the end of 8th grade, to a new school, which was a little more rural than the district I was in before. That helped. Plus I broke my arm in the middle of acting class, and that MADE me socially. (acting folks are remarkably outgoing, and I guess on pity, took me under their wing)

I didn't go to any of my reunions until the 20th. I didn't have a particularly good time in high school, but I will say this...time changes people, and some of the people who never had anything to do with me in high school are now very dear friends. Of course, some are still the mean spirited a$$es they were in high school, but on the whole, I enjoy my class mates MUCH more 20+ years later.

I honestly hated high school. I was the geeky outcast type. I was huge into politics at the time when no one my age cared.
Still quite young for a reunion but not sure if I'd want to attend.

The people from high school that I want to talk to I have since I graduated. Why go to a reunion and force conversation with folks I haven't talked to for 20 years.

I have to be honest, Facebook has made it very easy to keep up with friends from high school. So not a huge need for reunions, you know what everyone has been up to.

Yeah I saw that sale. I was thinking that Captain Ron would love FlightTrack... but he likely already has it.
EDIT: On second thought, I'm not sure what he would do with it. I mean, why would a commercial pilot worry about where everyone else's planes are? And if he needs an Android app to track the plane he's flying.... well....

Captain Ron has an app called a "navigator"; he can "talk" to the Navigator (kind of like Siri) to ask "hey, where are we and where's the nearest Starbucks" (and the Navigator then checks HIS copy of FlightTrack and speaks the answer back to Captain Ron).

"Hey, where's the nearest Starbucks?"
"It is 7.3 miles northeast of your location... and 37,400 feet down."
"Dangit... adjust heading northeast 12 degrees. Where's my parachute?"

Morning all...
I was the nerd and geek in high school..I was on the swim team...but had a child waiting at home. So I worked 2 jobs, studied computers....and worked at the AF base nearby with engineers on a project that flew in the Space Shuttle back in 94....today I have no desire to speak to or see anyone from high school, FB is as close to those jergoffs as I want to be... okay, better now.
Hope everyone's week is going well. We have the "executive management committee" showing up at our little office today...woo hoo. Good thing I work in the other building cause I seriously doubt they will grace the doorway. Just hope our department does not get the ax today!!
Kids are still having fun at camp...and so tired they are going to bed early every night....my 5 yr old came home last night absolutely ecstatic that she rode the zip line in gym yesterday...TWICE, she says (we heard that story at least 5 times last night..and she got to tell her mom the same thing!!!) Adorable is what she is!!!!

Regarding the high school stuff. I wasn't necessarily the outcast in high school, but I was never popular. I'm not saying that was worse than being a "outcast" but it definitely wasn't fun. I didn't really fit in in any group. I was very small for my age, so eventhough I was an above average athlete, I wasn't good at the popular sports like basketball and football. I played tennis. I graduated high school at 5'4" 130 lbs and even that was probably an exaggeration. Just a late bloomer socially and physically. Mentally I was always ahead of the curve. Within 2 years of graduating I grew over 5" and gained 40 lbs of muscle. I have seen a few people from high school since graduating and they didn't recognize me at first. I have kept in contact with 2-3 people fairly regular since high school and honestly those are the only ones I want to keep in contact with. Still undecided about my reunion.

So disgustingly hot out today.
Good morning everyone - worked from home yesterday and of course was super busy with work and unpacking the apartment.
Has anyone ever dealt with centipedes in the home? We have found 7-8 while unpacking our stuff and another one scurried out last night. I bought a caulking gun and plan to seal up all the baseboards and cracks where they can come in. Internet says to use a dehumidifier so gonna look into purchasing one of those as well - even though the AC is technically a dehumidifier I'd like to see the humidity level in the room. Sprayed the outside of the apartment with Raid, but can't bomb the place yet because of the cat. Just looking for suggestions because I'd like to get rid of them without them laying eggs or anything and getting infested.
Missed you all yesterday - it was weird not posting here.

Speaking of the temperature. Try working in two pants, welding jacket and gloves while using a torch or welding in, at times, tight spaces. The past two days have been horrible!

Hey y'all!
So last night my family celebrated my 30th with a very acceptably low key dinner and cocktails!
There is a place in San Jose called Iguanas Burritozilla. I had the mid size burrito which is over a foot long and ate about a foot of that. Some delicious margaritas to chase a few shots and it was golden! Even my little boy got in on the burrito action! He ate 1/3 of the contents of the regular burrito...pretty good for a 20 month old little bugger!
Anyway, gotta say that I am happy with the fact that I didn't go out, didn't have to deal with people I don't know, worry about a cab, etc, etc. It was nice to have my Aunt be the bartender and my adopted Mom get drunk off of one margarita! Funny really!
So what am I doing today? My wife is working six hours today and I have to do all the prep work for my interview tomorrow. What a way to say 30!
In the end it is all worth the trouble of being a responsible parent, husband and family member. Hopefully I will be in bed by 8p to get lots of rest (My day begins at 3a tomorrow), work a half shift, nail my interview and look toward my new guidely practice over the weekend.
You guys/gals are great and I can't say it enough!
Wife is out with one of her friends today so I ventured into the Latitude app on my phone just to freak her out a little and boom, I caught her...she was at Krispy Kreme. I called her out on it too, lol. I love Latitude

I would be murdered for ever checking in on my wife like that... Well, for calling her on it... If she didn't know, nothing bad would happen. Think I need to go activate her Latitude tonight

It sounds like we do. *takes a deep breath as he prepares to open a painful past* I went to a very small private school when my family moved from NJ to NC. It was full of snotty rich kids that labeled me as different right from the get-go. A few months after moving to NC, I had a tragic accident... my sister's horse bucked up and kicked me in the head. It shattered a small area of my skull on the left side. I was taken to the local hospital in Wilson (where we lived at the time) and they couldn't do anything for me so they transferred me to Greenville, about 45 minutes away. I was told I died twice on the way. I spent about 8 hours in surgery as doctors were picking bone fragments out of the side of my head. The brilliant - but very arrogant surgeon - told my family that I probably won't be able to walk and talk. Boy was he wrong - you can't shut me up now! But seriously, I have very little recollection of the whole event. I lost about two weeks, if I understand the timeline as it was explained to me. Call it a miracle, divine intervention, luck, or simply not my time, depending on your beliefs.
That explanation was relevant to my story, believe it or not. The doctor had told my parents and I that I was not to engage in physical activities, such as organized sporting events. Anything around the size of a broomhandle had the potential to seriously injure or kill, due to the now-vulnerable left side of my head. That incuded elbows, fists, etc., which meant I couldn't play soccer, basketball, or any other sport the school was famous for. The doctor had also theorized that I would be prone to seizures if I over-exerted myself (which thankfully never materialized). I already had trouble fitting in because I was from the north and was different, and then that happened to me. So that meant the kids, who were already cruel and nasty to me, were relentless. And since most of the kids had been there for years and would end up finishing at that school (since it was K-12), I didn't get a break. Anything that they could find wrong with me, they would tease. I didn't wear designer clothes. I didn't get a new car when I was 16. I couldn't play sports. I listened to different kinds of music. My grades were bad. I didn't like UNC/NC State/Duke/Wake Forest or gave a flying poop about college sports. My shoelaces were tied too tight. I rode a skateboard. My girlfriend was ugly. You name it, they found reason to pick on me. And since they never let up, the younger kids would see this behavior and they would pick on me too. I mean 4th and 5th graders would rag on me and here I am a junior in high school. Those little snots saw everyone else do it, so they thought it was okay.
Now I can take a joke just like the next guy but it just never stopped. Day in and day out for 6 years, because I started in 6th grade and finished high school there. It was absolutely miserable. I had no motivation for anything school-related, including homework. I wasn't an idiot but I just didn't care. I counted the days until graduation and after that night, I never saw or talked to a single one of them since. And that's fine with me. Sure, kids can be cruel but once we started getting into high school, they became old enough to know better.
So there you have it: My younger years in a nutshell and the reason why I could care less about a high school reunion. I have absolutely no desire to have any contact with any of them.

It's all in fun and games. Neither of us would be anywhere we shouldn't be, so it's fun to check in on each other and call each other out on it every once in a while.
Edit: also I am the one that keeps track of our bank account and what not. I don't think the wife has ever logged in to check it. I never intentionally do this, but it's always fun when I happen upon it when checking to see if something I bought or a bill came through. We take our breakfast and lunch 99% of the time to work so if I see where she ate at Hardee's that morning or something similar, the first thing I say when I get home is "Did you enjoy ____ this morning?" Oh, Nexi, what shall I do with thee? You drive me crazy. Your fresh OS has been pretty stable for me, despite the fact I tinkered with your code, you still perform admirably. Your features are great and a treat to use. Probably one of the most bug free updates I have seen from android, but you have a dark side. A bipolar radio. You have got to have one of the most indecisive radios I have ever seen. Your signal flip flops more then the foot ware of the same name. You have not been there when I needed you, leaving me pretty much blind while chasing thunderstorms. Other times trying to find quick information has resulted on frustration because your radios cannot hold a signal for too long.
What is one to do? You are not the full package I signed up for. I guess this was what happens when one buys into the hype. Do I just accept you for your faults? Data is the main reason I acquired you, that and that slick new OS you bolstered. But at times you are almost unusable.
I have been looking at other phones, had a brief fling with a Razr Maxx which had a issue with signal in my house resulting in that massive battery being drained. I ditched the razr and now trying to figure out what else to do.
Do I stay or do I go?
Verizon has nothing else that really interests me. Got another month for the SIII but unsure if this phone, your younger kin, is going to have the same issues that you do.
I have been tempted by other phones on another network. AT&T has some nice looking phones. The One X, The Note, The SIII. But the cons of this network is no 4G yet, but I do get HSPA+ which is a step up from 3g and may work farther out while chasing, but I get a new phone number, I will have reception issues at my house due to its construction and thus would require another network extender. I would also lose my unlimited data (of which I don't use much of anyway) and my unlimited tethering which I don't use due your radio issues, Nexi.
I really feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Back at VZW, I could buy out my Xoom contract with a different phone, but what else is there? A Rezound? Another Maxx? I, quite frankly, am not concerned about the data plan on the Xoom. The device gets very little use outside the house. I could get a smaller tablet, a 7" samsung and hope the radio works in that work or the 8" XYBoard, or the new iPad. I could even get a mifi device, but that did not really work the last time I tried it, but a MIFI device I could just leave in the car. I heard those have issues too.
Wow, what a history. Glad you survived all of it. Sounds like it's more than your armpit that's Lucky, Lucky.
It took a long time for me to realize that things like that only make me stronger. I was pretty miserable at the time, but I think I became a better person because of it.

I am in the same boat. My wife doesn't look at the finances at all. Unfortunately for us that led to problems in that regard, and so I can't joke about what she spends anymore.

Guess I'm lucky with my wife. She doesn't spend much.
I loved high school. Not the best 4 years of my life, but it was wonderful. My little sister was 2 years behind me, and she was a nerd as a freshman. She got called a slut by some idiot her first year, and I beat the crap out of him in the gym showers a couple of days later. I got suspended, but people stopped picking on her, lol.
I guess high school was good for this alleged "victim", lol. All kidding aside....this is kind of a grey area of the law to me. Student was of legal age, the woman was 5 years older, she was an assistant cheerleading coach, did not teach or coach the boy in any way. To me, that's not a crime....a little sad that a 22 year old girl wanted to hook up with a 17 year old boy, but not a crime.
I gotta agree, the story makes it seem like there was nothing wrong, except that she was employed at his school, and that is how they met...
No offense, but when it comes to teenage boys... these kind of charges are already a stretch. Should she be fired. Yes, I don't care if it is technically legal, you don't sleep with a student if you are a staff member, ever. Should she be charged with a crime? No.

Sounds like we have the same view. Things like that should be handled internall by the school. Firing/suspension....whatever. The law states 17 is the age of consent, then that's the age of consent...end of story.

But I wasn't mean to anyone.
He got what he deserved, especially if they left her alone after that. I got 2 weeks of in-school suspension for smoking my junior year. We got away with it for months before we were caught, and we were caught only because someone ratted us out. We couldn't believe we got away with it for as long as we did, and I think we kept doing it at that point just to see if we would get caught. We simply moved our smoking area after our suspension was over, and was never caught after that.
So my phone is not playing nice right now. Have been trying to make a call for the past 30 minutes, and the call ends within 5 seconds of me initiating it every time. Also I just shutdown the phone to see if a restart will help, and it took 4 tries for it to finally respond to me holding down the power button to turn on.
Also I have noticed 3G-4G hand-off is abysmal since I upgraded to the full IMM76K ROM, even though before I had the radios with the IMM30B ROM and it seemed fine. And it seems like the data connection hangs up, I have to back up and reload, to get web pages, and topics on tapatalk to load quite often.

I had no data earlier, too, but remembered that VZW is rolling out 4G in a lot of cities today.
